QB vision? Roster teardown? What former NFL executives make of Dave Gettleman’s plan to rebuild the Giants - (
New Window )
-Both like that they rebuilt the OL.
-Both do not hate the Jones pick. Casserly likes the pick a lot.
-Banner disagrees with letting OBJ go, the QB succession plan, and the roster teardown.
-Both like the culture rebuilding, but Banner thinks Gettleman went overboard.
Banner kept talking about keeping the Eli money for FUTURE years. WTF is he talking about?

(I believe Banner) questioned not letting Eli go and the $$ relief that would have brought (if they really have a conviction on Jones)

I'm no expert, but I think unused cap space rolls over, forward, to future years.

I never fully understood how that worked. If we don't use Eli's $20M in 2019, we could potentially use it in 2020 and or spread some to 2021? That's a nice chunk of change right there. Could sign 2 or 3 decent players/possible starters for the years where we are actually going to (maybe) be a competitive football team. So weird to me how much we're paying Eli for the player he is at this point in his career. I know he's "earned" it but I mean the dude has made $250M + off-the-field dough + comes from money. IDK just odd to me they couldn't leverage possibly releasing him for lowering his contract number a little bit (without extending extra years).

If Jones is showing something, that gives the Giants more leverage against Eli.

They would carry the money for pre 2020 bonus money and signs...early extensions
