Via Hughes, former Giants third-rounder Davis Webb had an impressive offseason program, so impressive that he apparently jumped Siemian late in the OTA process. Hughes writes that Webb was the second quarterback to take the field during the final set of OTAs.
Hughes adds that the Jets would like to keep only two quarterbacks on the final 53-man roster. Siemian, however, has $1 million of his one-year, $2 million contract fully guaranteed. (He already has earned a $750,000 signing bonus.) So cutting Siemian and keeping Webb (who has a non-guaranteed salary of $645,000) would create enhanced expense and wasted money.
It also would create the risk that, if the Jets need Siemian later, he wont be available. Whether hes signed by another NFL team or by the fledgling XFL which plans to gobble up third- and fourth-string quarterbacks who are cut from NFL rosters Siemian could be long gone if/when an injury creates a reason to bring him back.
Ditto for Webb, who also could land with another team, or with the XFL.
Another option, as Hughes notes, would be to trade Webb, who was regarded as having a bright future before he washed out with the Giants. Maybe that future is getting brighter, whether its with the Jets, another NFL team, or ultimately as one of the eight starters for Vince McMahons resurrected spring league.

What was your question? Unlike you, I have no problem acknowledging and responding to statements I've made in the past. And even the statement you're referring to right above, I stand by that today. While I hope like hell I'm wrong, I believe it was an unbelievably terrible pick.
I also stated when we drafted Barkley, I thought he would be amazing, but I also thought it was the absolute wrong pick b/c of position value and how good I expected some of those QB's to be. I stand by that statement as well. You can make fun of those statements all you want and I can still think you're like most typically shortsighted fans.

Actually, I didn't want to draft all of them. I thought when we were drafting at #2 overall in what was considered one of the best QB classes in recent memory with a then 37 yr old QB at the end of his career that we should be drafting our future QB over any RB. But as usual, you will attempt to rewrite history to try and draw an inaccurate conclusion either due to your inability to understand basic team-building concepts or a conscious effort to manipulate the facts. This has predictably become your modus operandi and it's quite petty and pathetic.

Fans need to understand that simply drafting the best player at any position just because you have a need for them, doesn't meant they were a smart (or the right or best) pick. You've got to believe in the player.

The talk leading up to the draft was many talent evaluators did not hold the QB group in as high of regard at the draft as they did earlier in the scouting season, before complete evaluations were completed. Take it for what you will. The Giants were one of those teams, I shared that here at that time.
I'm a firm believer it is about fit as it is about anything else. John Dorsey just made Freddie Kitchens a head coach because of his relationship with Baker. Time will tell if this was a good decision or not, but I understand the thought process.
