apparently NFL has a Throwback Twitter account which is a really cool twitter follow and posted this link from 1984.
It's a brief clip of the interview, just 38 seconds, but I can watch this stuff all day.

...or Ray Handley?

...or Ray Handley?
You decide.
Sometimes on lazy days I like to let my mind wander to an alternate reality where that decision was different and wonder how it would have turned out.
would the Giants have been Belichick's CLE (a sort of misunderstood and sometimes over-criticized stop - though not GOAT coach legacy creating by a long shot) or would the Giants have been the Patriots Dynasty.
How much did that decision alter our lives as fans. Are we missing out on 6 or 7 different title celebrations because of one heated, ill-informed, and just poor, decision?
unanswerable obviously but it's interesting to wonder about.
Yes, they tried the Handley thing but even afterwards, there was an opportunity to hire Bill.
I believe (we will never know for sure), that it was Wellington who also did not believe that BB should be our head coach.
Imagine if Little Bill bought Ozzie Newsome and Nick Saban onto the Giants staff. That concentration of talent would have implode upon itself into a football talent black hole from the sheer weight and concentration of talent.

My guess is that Bill Belichick would have created a consistent winner with the Giants. As many Super Bowl appearances as the Pats? Probably not.
But we would have had happier football in the Big A than what we got (two Coughlin Super Bowls), as well as a lot of shit teams. BB would have never let this franchise to descend into its 2013-2018 abyss!
BB is the greatest coach in the history of the NFL. And whoever is the second greatest coach is far behind.

it was pretty common knowledge back then why WM didn't want BB around

We all heard George Young did not believe that Bill would make a good head coach for whatever reason.

Because of the affair with the secretary in the front office?

#2, #3 aren't terribly behind, and he certainly leveraged prior coaches abilities (not just Parcells/NYG) to become what he is now.
20-30 years from now there will be someone likely better than BB is right now, inevitably. And he'll be diminished the way Lombardi, Walsh, have become.
