stay offline if you don’t want live sports results
I watched it live. Doesn’t mean he isn’t spoiling it for people. And there’s an active thread already posted, this thread is unnecessary. Spoilers in thread titles for a match not even an hour old is dumb, plain and simple.
I sort by 'thread started' not 'last post' and there was no Tennis thread about the match(which I had forgotten about) on 1st page so I was glad to see Joker won. Good for him!

Love that he posted it and is not partaking in the thread at all. Proves it’s just an attention seeking douche move.
The OP (Alan in Toledo) is (I believe) in his late-70s or early 80s. I remember him mentioning that he had been a chair umpire at the US Open some years back.
He made an honest mistake posting the result in the thread title. His posting history would not suggest that he's an attention seeking douche.
And to anyone who actually did have this match spoiled for them let me ask you this question. If you're recording a game or a match to watch later and it's really important to you to not know the outcome... why would you risk logging on to BBI?
been handled in a more considerate manner. He's had hours to delete this post. I'm left to wonder which is worse, being a douchbag, or enabling/apologizing for a douchbag.

New York Giants Football site. I would not click on Tennis thread. Posting like this gives no choice.
I had three pop ups on my phone after the end of the match with the headline. If you are recording the men’s final match and don’t want to hear the result you need to go on airplane mode and avoid the web TV radio etc. Probably should have noise canceling headphones in public too as someone may mention it in public.
So because there are other possibilites of having it spoiled Â
that makes it OK for someone to add spoilers to thread titles on BBI?
I agree if you truly want to eliminate any possibility of finding out it's best to avoid any and all sites, but that doesn't change anything about not putting endings into thread titles is simply more courteous.
What is the purpose of putting the score in the title instead of in the text of the OP? Why not avoid it if it helps someone else out?
so fuck everyone else, right? Your argument is brutal. A guy came on here and purposely posted a spoiler in the thread title but you are blaming everyone else? Ok then.

You can wonder all you want. My guess is that he's an old guy who got excited about a great tennis match... started a thread and forgot about it.
But by all means feel free to pile on with more name calling if it makes you feel good.

I agree with you that Alan is a decent guy who likely didn't think it through before posting the outcome in the title. I don't believe he was either seeking attention or deliberately trying to ruing it for anyone and I assume he would feel bad if realizing he had.

to fathom that you'd start a thread on something important to you and not revisit the thread for 7 hours. Regardless, there is never a need to have a spoiler in the thread title. It should be official policy not to allow it.

yup, in 2019, if you want to avoid a major sports result because you can’t watch it live, you need to be really strategic about how you spend your time. And especially avoid a sports related message board.

I had notifications of the results on my phone five minutes after the end of the match. Should media and tech companies avoid putting sports results in notifications?
Alan in Toledo is a bit of a special case. He cried when Eli sat out the raiders game. But I don’t fault him here.
How much of a troll he truly is going after a pretty good poster. Again... how he is allowed on this site is amazing.
a disagreement over the “spoiler” thread title - which was a headline on every major media site - is “going after” someone? and grounds for banning?. Dep you may want to look into the mirror and finally resolve your anger management issues before you have the audacity to call anyone else a troll. Especially given your well known suspension history here.
You need to live in a jungle in Papua New Guinea if you want to avoid the result of a live major sports event. Or at least avoid news and sports websites channels or people known to discuss them.

Seriously, shut the fuck up. You are nothing but a troll. Calling a pretty respected poster a "special case" is the epitome of going after someone. And then stated he "cried" over something that you have no fucking clue about because you wanted to take a cheap shot at him.
You're a loser. You always have been and always will be. Like I said, its a shame Eric doesnt throw your sorry ass out of here.
And again troll, people were discussing the event the whole day. There was a thread on it. Alan screwed up, albeit not on purpose. you really need to look in the mirror yourself and wonder when the hell you will grow up and start acting like an adult.

Alan started a thread stating he cried into his meatloaf when Eli benched himself. Like it or not, people mocked him for that and he will be remembered for that much like bavarofan89 will be remembered for posting a picture of his pee stained pants and you’ll be remembered for being the sean Avery of BBI - always getting suspended . It’s interesting that you attack me instead of the people who were calling him a douche or treating it like a capital crime.
But once again- bringing that up for no reason shows the type of person you are. A despicable one. Get a life or grow up Les. Either one.
it actually has been brought up by others several times, but I know seventh grade insults are your specialty, not facts. More proof of Churchill’s wisdom.

You come at a poster with insults and try to humiliate him and then come crying wolf? Lol, what a nutjob you are.
Basically any grown person using the term "fanboy" sounds like an ignorant schmuck, but I don't think consistency in argumentation is really a goal here. Right?

And who brings up Eli Manning in order to insult a long time poster on a Wimbledon thread? Hahaha.... like I said its Les so you gotta consider the source.
Above, is there anyone who actually came on here and had it spoiled from them?
Just trying to understand the logic or are people just looking to argue for the sake of it.
So, during the season, after the game when there are a 1,000 threads about how good or bad the game was, that is not spoiling it for the mast majority who might have DVR'd the game? I know, I get it, its a Giants message board, but it is the same concept.
As a poster said above, if you don't want to know the results, avoid the internet or any social media for that matter. It seems like the majority who are angered here, actually saw the match live and are just looking to argue for the sake of it.
has tons of threads with the word “spoiler” in the title or in the OP. It’s pretty universal in the Internet ecosystem to warn others before proceeding. Maybe Alan just made a mistake, but the tripping down about how it’s the users fault is baffling.
Yes if I go online when I’m trying to avoid spoils that’s ultimately on me. But there’s a right and a wrong way to break results based news online. This was the wrong way, nothing you say will change that.
So what is the proper way to handle threads during the season? Â
I mean post game, the outcome is obviously spoiled by the title in the threads that are started.
Like you said, ultimately, it is on the person who decides to go on BBI or any other social media outlet. There is a lot of outrage on here, but only one person actually came on here and said that this thread spoiled it for them.
there are pre, during, and post game threads. Then you have the slwe of threads that follow that pertain to X about the game. Id say the scores of games are rarely posted within the thread title, but you can get a feel for it being a win or loss based on the wording. To that end someone coming on a Giants board to not get a Giants score ruined for them would be making a foolish decision.

yup no need to call him a douchebag or a dick as the mob on this thread did. If you are avoiding a live sports result stay off a sports website

Or post in the thread with 90 posts on it.

I never understand why some people dig in their heels about this.
I often have to DVR sports events, and I go to GREAT lengths to avoid spoilers. I look like a psycho walking through airports sometimes.

Sorry, I was attempting a little indirect troll-fishing and I didn't think I needed to say "Sarcasm off." (How old is Eli?)
