It's interesting to speculate, who among the NFl's "geezer" QBs have the most "game" left, on opening day 2019 (and who will get "the boot" next)
Brady will be 42 years, 35 days - Successor ?
Brees will be 40 years, 233 days - Successor ?
Manning will be 38 years, 245 days - Dan Jones, successor
Roethlisberger will be 37 years 268 days - Successor ?
Jones will be another year towards a 2nd contract and he was the #6 pick. This isn't a mid-round guy we're talking about.
It wouldn't surprise me if the Giants brought Eli back is we have a very successful season, but I don't think it would be the right move.
It would be a perfect time for him to ride off either to retirement or as a FA without any hard feelings.
I actually hope Manning doesn't. One thing I learned from Coughlin and 2004 -- you have to prune the tree -- even if you trim too early.
Kurt Warner could have managed with that team, Collins could have managed with that team. Either of those guys could have been really competitive in 05-08.
You could argue in 2005 and 2006, with the way Barber was playing, a vet QB might have gotten those teams further.
But neither of those guys were going to sniff the playoffs in 2011.
It's time to start investing at all levels in what this team will be over the next 5-10 years at QB, even if it means sacrificing competitiveness for a year or two.
You make some really solid points...
Only thing I disagree with is I hope Eli rips shit up. He deserves one more great year before he leaves the game.

Would agree in the main, but again, even if for discussion purposes Eli rips it up this year and starts again and finishes up year 2 of Jones, I don’t see much of a contract dilemma. Jones would still have years 3, 4 and option year 5 to show his mettle. And if he does, we’d have and additional few years of TAGS if we opted to go that route.
I have zero problem with Jones being THE guy in year 2, I just fail to see the urgency
Still, you guys didn't answer the question - Who is next to get the boot, after Eli ?
I'd say Rivers 'cause he's never delivered a Super Bowl.
Then Brees (even though he came within one blown call from going to the SB)
Then Brady because he's the oldest (the it's either him or me threat won't work again)
Then Roth because he seems to have the Steelers by the balls. It's gonna be UGLY the day he's shown the door
The 5th year option and franchise tags are not cost advantages. Winston and Mariota are like the 13th most expensive players in the league this year.
If Manning sticks around for 2 years, the Giants only net savings in year 3 and 4 of the contract.
Brady's deal with Devil gets him to 45.
This is a hard, cruel business. When the Giants drafted a QB #6, Eli's future with the Giants ended, period. DG has already proven that he has little fear of unpopular management decisions.
You're the only one arguing that he was a top 3 QB in the 2018 draft.

If Eli comes back for ANOTHER year, he’s not going to be cut in the preseason, so by playing in 2020, his agreed upon salary kicks in.
= Pretty Big Assumption.
I thought Brady showed definite signs of age last year. BB being ahead of the game went more with a power running game and I expect more of that this year again.
Brees looked liked he was really laboring at times last year. I am sure Payton is very concerned heading into the season. They also may have some OL issues which will magnify it.
