I have to admit, I did want a quarterback in that draft. I was wrong. Barkley has all the talent in the world. Everything a running back needs, agility, strength, speed, explosion, hands, route running. All of it, and it is undeniably exciting to watch. Are we not here to be entertained? Combine that with a person that trains with the team, always says the right thing and is of the highest character. When undeniable talent and unmistakable character converge, you have greatness. I'm really looking forward to seeing what this young man does. When Daniel Jones finally gets a chance to start I don't know how he could fail with Barkley in the backfield. It was the right pick.
I think Elliott makes Dak look better.
What I'm more excited about is having the OL not be one of the worst in the league and see what we can finally do when that albatross is lifted.

Imagine is your (A) and (B) come to fruition AND (C) the defense is at least middle-of-the road.
As it turned out, we drafted our guy the very next year. For those who are Jones non-believers, even if they didn't like Jones, they could have made a move for Rosen for pennies on the dollar had they liked him.
so the giants of the 2020’s should be, barring the horror of injury, SB’s. he is the face of the franchise. Eli is quickly fading from that role. DG is well into rebuilding a team that can compete just as G. Young did. Now we need some lucky bounces of the funny object called football and luck. we have a chance in almost every game, we are on the road to being a competitive team in every game.
this does not mean we are ready. not at all. we have a younger team that needs to learn to play together, units have to gel, units have to integrate with each other into offense and defense, we need to play as a team. that takes a season or two while new players are added where needed. but gettleman gets it. hopefully our coaching staff does.
Oh and SB is a 235 lb Faulk/Sanders.
We’ve seen the cautionary tale of the “rise” of the mediocre qb with Keenum, Foles, and Bortles. It takes more than a game manager to contend on a yearly basis. Early returns on DJ are solid, hopefully that sticks in game situations. Having Barkley and a legit oline should certainly give him a chance to build that confidence and let his natural talent rise.
Look, everyone pretty much knew Barkley was the safest pick. After going 5-11 (and now no OBJ, who is also a generational talent), I don't know how anyone thinking logically can say it was the right pick - remember Eli was a bust for all of his first three years and most of his fourt, but Darnold can't become a SB champion?
I hope Jones is the real deal, but no way of knowing right now.
I wouldn't complain if we got a bigger version of Barry Sanders (who's more proficient as a pass receiver too) and a young Peyton Manning (who's more mobile and a better pure athlete) at RB and QB with our two first picks in 2018 and 2019.
Huh? Because Tiki Barber, Shockey, and Amani Toomer sucked?
Nothing against Eli, but the narrative that Eli's career was held back by the skills position players alongside him is pure hogwash. The OL held him back since 2009 or so, but with skills position players he's had more than enough year after year. The only negative was the team kept losing good skills position guys through injuries - Plax, Steve Smith, Nicks , Cruz, and Manningham, Boss etc etc.
He didn't have the luxury of Peyton's long time targets and rushing weapons Harrison, Wayne, James, Clark...
But he had fine weapons all the same.
Left Plax out on purpose because I was responding to Jay's post re who Eli had from year one! Plax arrived to the Giants Eli's 2nd year...
Hmm...
...no, I think that we knew that it was the right pick about 4 games into the season.
He might be the best offensive player in the NFL.
He IS the most entertaining player in the NFL.
The OP said it best, "Are you not entertained?!"
Yup, Grateful.
Que the dancing bears~
The idea behind not taking the QB is that it isn't a very important position - meaning you can't win a lot with it. If any of the QB's win a lot more, how can anyone justify "stats" over "wins?"
***I do believe the pick can be super. Can be the right move. Just get Barkley a good OL and at worst a decent QB but preferably --> God I hope Jones is damn good. Then obviously selecting Barkley was the right pick. -- But not until the winning starts.
Barkley is an exciting amazing talent. But he is not the right choice until he proves he can put the team on his back to a certain extent and win a lot. For the record, I think SB could be among the greatest RB's ever if he can remain healthy for a certain spell.
