NFT: Yankees Rays on MLB network last night opinion

blueblood'11 : 7/19/2019 7:17 am
Thought I'd give Coatas and Verducci a listen last night. Well, I don't know about anyone else but when Luke Voit hit his homerun and they were in a split screen commercial I had had about as much of that as I could take. How ridiculous was that. MLB network usually does the right thing but that went on all night. Plus I can only take so much of Tom Verducci trying to impress us all with his baseball acumen and knowledge.

In the end I went back to YES and listened to Kenny David and Paul. those guys are great listen.
I watched on MLB network because I don't get YES games here...

...I usually listen on Sirius. At any rate, I just don't like the way Costas calls a game. A mid summer game is a lazy, relaxing time to watch...just 1 of 162...and it feels like he tries to make it seem that we're seeing the last game of the year with the playoffs on the line.
I watched on MLB Network also

it was ok...I used to like Costas but he just seems more annoying to me as I get older.
If my choice..

is Costas and the TB crew - My bet is on Costas 101 times out of 100.
Same opinion on Costas

It's like he's becoming Peter King without Starbucks. Yea we get it, you know a lot of people, you have a lot of stories, just call the freaking game.

this....just call the fucking game
Verducci
Carson53 : 7/19/2019 9:31 am : link
doesn't shut up, he has the Jessica Mendoza disease!
I recall a few years ago, when FOX had Verducci and
Harold Reynolds working with Joe Buck. That lasted a year,
since Verducci and Reynolds were 'fighting' for air time.
FOX apparently came to their senses!
I don't mind Costas, but at times, he can come across as
sanctimonious...that's when I hit the mute button.

This. Thas what I like about Kenny/Paul/Coney yea they tell stories but they always make it relevant to whats happening on the field, and with Kenny how can you go wrong with an Earl Weaver story?
I'm not a big Costas fan.

I can take him for small doses at a time. But he's better than having to hear the Rays announcers.

Anderson (I think that's his name) just doesn't shut up. I understand being a homer, but his presenting a senerio that didn't happen yet is pie in the sky stuff. What a dreamer.

.

Brian Anderson was a former big league pitcher.
In fact, he pitched against the Yanks in 2001 WS
with Arizona.

Fred - At least Dwayne Staats wasn’t in the TB booth yesterday. What a whiney complainer.

Hope you and Carol are well.
Costas is incredibly full of himself
Greg from LI : 7/19/2019 10:50 am : link
It's like he's appointed himself Pope of Baseball.
Costas was a great listen about 25 years ago.

Somewhere in the last couple of decades he got very arrogant and really just loves to hear himself speak.
Ken Singleton is about the most underrated broadcaster around
Matt M. : 7/19/2019 1:11 pm : link
He can do play by play or color. He is a former player who was pretty good and played on some darn good team with some HOF players, so he has a wealth of valuable input. But, he is smoother than any other former player or coach turned broadcaster in any sport at infusing his playing experiences without ever sounding full of himself and without ever making it seem like he is simply just trying to remind the viewer he played. He is a real class act who knows the game inside and out.

I also really love listening to O'Neill. He is such a goofball. He is as close to Rizutto in the booth in a long time.
I was fine with Costas and Verducci

I was not pleased that MLBN cut off Voit's HR for a commercial, though.

Totally agree Matt and great analysis of Kenny. He's my favorite Yankee announcer since Jim Katt, who had IMO, a lot of the very same traits as Kenny.

Both guys were extremely talented on the field and in the booth but never beat us over the head with anything.

I think you're right about the O'Neill/Scooter thing too. I could see Paulie in another ten years or so doing something similar to hitting the bridge as soon as some lightning is in the area.
