BREAKING: Former Razorback, NFL player Mitch Petrus dies at 32 after suffering heat-related illness, officials say:
He said records indicate Petrus reported feeling ill after working all day outside and in his family's shop in Lonoke County. The cause of death was listed as heat stroke, Hobbs said.
A heat advisory was in effect for a large swath of Arkansas on Thursday including Lonoke County, where temperatures reached the low-to-mid 90s and the heat index made it feel hotter than 100 degrees, the National Weather Service said. A heat advisory is in effect again on Friday for roughly the northern half of Arkansas.
who wasl likely very familiar with the importance of staying hydrated when working in the heat, and he was still caught.
At risk of stating the obvious, remind your loved ones. -Heat is a killer- for people of ALL ages, and it's going to be hot this weekend.
-Drink LOTS of water, and don't wait until you are thirsty.
-Wear a hat outside.
-Stay in the shade.
-If you don't have AC in your home, go hang out with a friend who does, in a public place like a shopping mall, or any of the public cooling centers or pools that many towns make available.
-Check in on loved ones who might need support, just as you might for other extreme weather events like a blizzard or storm.
I feel like an idiot, but I'm holding an umbrella Â
A shocker, for sure, like others I had hopes he might be the real deal. Maybe he just got way out of shape, over weight? depressing news. R.I.P., young man
Whatever you have to do. I don't know what Hell feels like, but I can't imagine it feels much different than walking into the NYC Subway in 100 degree heat.
Is not a joke. You cannot just keep pushing it working in the sun. Have to stay hydrated, and take regular breaks to get cool. So unfortunate not just because a young man died but also because this is entirely preventable. Very sad.
When it’s this hot outside you need to avoid lengthy strenuous activity. Most construction sites cancel or reduce shifts when there are heat advisories
since 2011 minus the blip on the radar that was 2016.

Obviously the on-field performances have been terrible, but much less important in this context.
Heat stroke is no joke I live in NY and was visiting helping my brother in ft meyers Fla he was at work and I was laying sod (crabragrass here) and I stopped sweating then got cold went inside to tell my sister in law and passed out I awoke in the hospital Doctor told me I almost died
This is was FLA so the doctor probably also worked at the Quikie mart
I imagine the sheer rarity of that sort of heat played a roll, but I imagine the current US heat wave will claim more lives of those who just attempt to push through it.

That was an absolutely brutal summer in France for a while, and I was there at Vinexpo Bordeaux and I mean folks in the exhibition Pavilions were sweating buckets as they simply didn't have enough BTU of air conditioning for the heat and size of the crowds. Older people were dropping like flies in Paris in non air-conditioned flats.
The Israelis like myself always dressed in short sleeves and casual attire, but the Europeans, many donning sports coats in the AM, were dripping at the armpits by midday. By afternoons you saw tons of men draping their sports jackets over one shoulder with their long sleeves rolled up.
At night Bordeaux cools significantly (much like the best wine country locals in Northern California) but we were still fortunate to have hotel rooms with working AC.
Add me to the list of fans who thought he'd have a pretty good career. Not really sure why he was out of the league after only a few years. 32...man, that's way too young.
This heat is no joke. I mowed my lawn today, didn’t think much of it b/c I’ve been away. I had to take several water breaks and I was spent when I finally finished. Really too bad about MP.

Do whatever you have to do to stay out of the hospital.
An umbrella might have saved MP's life.
So, so, so sad.

Horrible for sure. Way too young. As others have said, drink water, stay in the shade, stay inside if possible. It's gross out here.
