Eddie Murphy is gearing up to get raw again.
The reclusive comedy legend, 58, hasn’t been on the standup stage in years, but he’s reportedly in talks with Netflix for a series of comedy specials, sources close to Murphy tell TMZ.
The streaming giant’s big lure: A whopping $70 million paycheck.
TMZ admits they’ve been “unable to firmly confirm the exact figure” at this point, but that dollar amount is certainly in line with what headliners of the “Beverly Hills Cop” legend’s caliber can demand from the streaming giant.
David Spade then holds up a pic of Eddie Murphy.
I mean, his material is really homophobic. I promise you I'm not one to get offended but I don't think it's "candyass" to think he went a little overboard on that subject.
That being said, I feel like so much of Eddie's "funny" came from his swagger and youthful energy. The guy's jokes weren't Carlin/Chappelle/Pryor level works of art, he made people laugh because you could just tell this dude was naturally hilarious and oozing with talent. I don't know how he'll do as an older comic who has been out of the spotlight for so long. I'll watch it though.
Carlin, Pryor, Murphy... All the greats went overboard. But the thing about comedy is that it's meant to get people talking about it. He/they made us all laugh about stereotypes of ALL people, genders, sexual orientation, or nationalities.... It was indiscriminate.
I think the tricky thing for him if he tries stand-up again, is being relatable to an audience. He's been living a life for decades that very few people could ever understand.
I have heard guys like Chappelle, Chris Rock & others who hang out with him (outside of the spotlight) say that when they're all together, Eddie is still the funniest.
I'm cooking hamburgers and franks, Gus!
Haven't seen them, but I believe it for sure. You can't be that naturally funny and just lose it. I'm sure its still there. I do agree with the society we live in it will be interesting to see how he fairs with his edgy style of humor. Chris Rock seems to still thrive. Eddie wasn't as into racial humor though so we'll see.
LOL!!!
Humamna hummanah hummanh!!!
His Bill Cosby impression was spot on as well..

Gus your kids are motherfuckin big foot! I took your son fishing in a boat and he stuck his face in the water and came out with a fish!
Quote:
Look at how big it is. Every year you come to my house and burn down the backyard, Gus. I'm cooking burgers and franks, not a motherfuckin' brontosaurus burger. This ain't the motherfuckin' Flintstones, Gus!

And then the kid looked at me and said "Gooney Gunga!"
He has Coming to America 2 and Beverly Hills Cop 4 coming out in 2020 (or 2021).
It only makes sense from a marketing perspective he capitalize on the exposure and get out there with stand up.
I do like the fact he's been somewhat selective in his decisions opting mostly for voice work (shrek) in the past 10 years instead of milking the audience with bullshit like someone like De Niro has (for example).
Today those boundaries are considered very tame.
If he can resurrect his humor at his original level (but not beyond; not reverting to pure vulgarity), he will appeal to a lot of us who appreciated his satire highlighting social problems.
He's still got the funny and you can tell he misses being on stage. He talks about the difficulties involved in doing the work to put together a show when you're as famous as he is.
Still the funniest shit ever said
Heck if he went back to the Orioles, he might still be their best player.
Is code for Almost out of money...

Same here. A lot of really interesting stuff in that episode with Seinfeld. He talks about how he’s going to do stand up again as if it’s an absolute. Talks about bill Cosby just being flat out shitty to him.
A really interesting episode with Eddie. Also, fucking SWEET Porsche!!!
Love the show. So happy there’s a new season.
Aside: Also watched the Seth Rogan episode. Is there a more unlikely movie star then this guy? Watch the episode. He is a really uncomfortable person around someone like Seinfeld.
Can’t tell if serious.

Probably at least somewhat true. He has 10 kids with 4 (at least) different mothers.
divorces and kids cost a ton of money.
