I can't believe they valued him this highly. I also can't believe they haven't started trying to teach him to throw a cutter.
Happ can be worrisome. He looked poor in the first here, but has done well since. Given the heat, he's doing very well, IMHO. A cutter would be a good add, no doubt. HAve no idea why they haven't done this, but now, mid-season, may not be the time to start.
Probably Kahnle.
I doubt Cessa is available today.
(If we hold the lead)

Cessa again? Has he somehow redeemed himself after being maybe the most disliked reliever? Was sharp yesterday and OK in the last other game he was in, as I remember. Who else?
Probably Kahnle.

You're right on with Kahnle.
He's been a nice pickup.

Believe it or not, if he had a full season's worth of AB's, he'd be pacing about a 4 bWAR season - which would be pretty damn good for a guy we got for just about nothing.
Now, that's just projecting - and perhaps he'd be exposed if there were more tape on him - but the real value with Tauchman is that he's able to play all 3 spots in the OF and he plays them pretty well. He doesn't hit for average - or hasn't yet - but we've seen some power. He's got some pretty good wheels too.
A .750 OPS really isn't terrible. It's decent and that's where he was at coming into tonight.
I don't think he'd be a great every day player, and obviously would never be one here - but I do think he could find a way to be above replacement level and there are definitely at least a couple teams starting a worse player in their outfield right now across the league.
They said earlier on the Yes broadcast he's saved something like seven or eight runs in the OF this year and ranks pretty high among all OF's. Considering how few games he's actually played compared to other outfielders, that's pretty amazing.
Good spot to use him now that the lead bloated up to 6 runs.
Heck, if Tarp gets a quick inning here, I'm sending him back out there for top 8.
Rays losing to White Sox...8-2.
Weird. And glorious

Is he a regular starting MLB player? Obviously, he’s a bench option on a good team but does he get exposed over the course of 162 game season as a regular starter?

I think I agree with you. He’s probably a starter on Baltimore, Detroit, and Miami right now.

Yet another Cashman Ninja move.
Phenomenal job by him. He really had his good stuff tonight.

Last week, they were bitching about the trade for EE.
I just can't stand people like that. People for who the cup is always half empty rather than half full. It's like they can't be happy and have to find the flaws and have whipping boys since can't they can't enjoy a successful team.
Loved Judge’s AB in the 8th...after hitting a bomb earlier, lot of other guys might have been eager to take their hacks and try to hit another one. He patiently took a walk.
It’s about time Boone and the Yanks are starting to make a stink about the way Judge gets screwed with low strike calls. I’m all for being classy, but they let that shit go on far too long.
You’d think the fact Judge handles it with class and never shows up the umps would earn him the benefit of the doubt a little bit. I really think the umps just can’t adjust their concept of the strike zone to a guy who’s 6’7”

And inevitably, whenever they start bitching about a player, he goes on a tear.

Yup. Notice how Chapman blows one save, and some trolls appeared on that game thread bashing him, drawn like flies to shit. They haven’t appeared since, of course. Weird phenomenon, I’ll never get it.

What they saw in him was a guy with a career 3.09 ERA in 29 starts against the AL East. And no, you just can't magically teach pitchers new pitches in the middle of the season. If Happ locates his fastball he is fine. That has been the difference between Happ this year and the last few years when he was a clear #2 pitcher. Fastball location is so important. It is the reason deGrom hasn't been anywhere near as good this year as last.

whether effective or not, I don't enjoy watching Happ. I'm not invested in him like I am with CC and I don't enjoy praying with every pitch that he is going to locate just well enough to cause the hitter to just miss crushing the pitch.

There is no way to know how a player will age. We know that in the carefully regulated MLB today, players are not able to take supplements that would otherwise allow them to stay healthier later into their career. That is what makes the Happ signing so puzzling. He was a virtual lock to decline this season and even moreso into next year. They must have simply loved his makeup enough.
Notice the socks pulled up higher the AB after he gets umped?
...that went into the LEFT field stands?
In fact all his HRs are to center and right field.
No dead pull HRs.

NYC - various reason's - ownership, taxes, congestion, media, the way that everyone is connected it does not matter where you play and so on.
Is there a baseball player on the planet who does not want to be a Yankee? either overtly or covertly?

He said he is delaying his swing as long as possible to cut down on strike outs. Gives him a better look at the ball and therefore the balls a more likely to go to right especially fastballs.

A few...Grienke was adamant about no NY (or east coast teams)...Ohtani obviously chose the west coast...sounds like Bumgarner doesn’t want to be traded to NY...but most do.
The pinstripes have always had storybook appeal, and the Yanks of recent vintage have created a winning culture that players want to experience, same with the Patriots in the NFL
Worth noting that while the Yankees were winners for good stretches under big George going back to the 70s, the current ownership management group has really changed the dynamic around the team for the better.
with the low strike, mentioned it the other day.
They should sweep this team, the Rockies are playing like
a team expecting to get beat at this point!
Thanks for Ottavino and DJ by the way.

Why? The low pants would only make getting the low strike called even more often IMO. Umps are having a hard enough time knowing where his knees are now, no need to mask them even more.
With his pants around his knees and the navy blue socks high, it gives the umps a much better view of where his knees actually are.
I think the pic above illustrates it perfectly.

I disagree, giving them a vision of where his knee is,
I feel is causing more below the knee pitches to be called strikes. At his size, I feel it would be more of
an advantage. Stanton is basically his size,
wears his pants low, just saying.
