To echo Greg, why was there a shell in the chamberif they were done hunting and stowing gear? Why was the muzzel pointed at him?

When you don't follow basic safety rules the outcome is usually bad.

If it had been me standing next to that pickup when the gun went off I'm enough shorter than a college lineman I would probably have take that shot to the gut instead of the leg.
