The Cowboys report for camp in five days. Running back Ezekiel Elliott may or may not be there. Per a league source, Elliott currently is believed to be making plans for a trip out of the country.
I bet they will wait until they absolutely have to to pay him. He’s just got too much baggage and is a walking suspension at this point. But Elliott the player is exactly the kind of RB you pay.
Actually sitting out the entire year. But running backs are one of the easier positions to replace, hard for that position to play hardball and win.
Not when you are built on the run game like Dallas is. Don’t care what anyone says, if Elliott sits and he’s back filled with even an average backup RB, Dallas will absolutely be a worse team, could be much worse. Most backups can’t handle 16 games either, and timeshares are hit/miss.
Held out after their first Super Bowl. I believe they started 0-2 and the offense just did not function very well till he reported. I think Jones may remember this.
I want Elliott to hold out causing a huge distraction. On the other hand I don't want Prescott to be exposed without Elliott until he gets his massive extension.
If the cowboys see Prescott without Zeke they might realize that he isn't worth 30+ million per season.
He doesn’t need to be there for start of training camp. Jones knows how important Zeke is to their offense. He knows this is their time to make a run for SB.

Then the best scenario is he signs for a huge contract right before Game 1.
I'm kind of confused why this hasn't happened yet Â
I think the Gurley contract is the templete and how elite RB's should be handled. Kind of sucks he developed an arthritic knee condition, but I don't think that unfortunate, unlikely outcome should effect Zeke's or Saquon's when that day comes. Both these guys have been healthy.

Maybe you re right about his importance to the Cowboys, but still believe my pt that running backs have difficulty winning negotiation battles is valid

I’m not so sure. Gurley got paid, Freeman got paid, McCoy got paid, David Johnson got paid. Even McKinnon got a big contract. I think it’s the non star RBs that it’s difficult for not the premier players but even then you’ll see it. Bell would have gotten paid if he didn’t have baggage, the whole culture in Pitt has gotten weird, it was a unique scenario. No doubt in my mind that Elliott gets paid, possibly already if he wasn’t what is off the field.
and Dak and Cooper. Money will be harder to find for other players. Make them all the highest paid at their positions. Do it Jerruh.
Can't worry about other teams anyway. The Giants need to make themselves into a playoff contender before we worry about Dallas. I think we are on the right track.
I can only speak of living for 42 years in Dallas metroplex, Dallas Cowboy fans are hard core down here.
They root for Dallas through good times and bad times.
I don’t run into bandwagon fans down here.
Maybe the bandwagon Cowboys fans are up North.

It's a perception that is not the reality.
Dallas leads the NFL in road attendance every year because Dallas fans are hardcore everywhere not just in Texas.

I hope you didn't use Rover's analysis and spread sheets to come up with this one.
You say road attendance, meaning the Cowboy fans that show up in rival stadiums? Never understood how one could come up with an exact number on how many of the rival teams fans were in attendance. It's not like the people that are scanning the tickets are marking down what type of fan they are.
I mean, the Steelers fans travel, do they count all the yellow towels that are waving in the crowd to get an accurate number?
for the front running, bandwagon riding, lemming Dallas fans.
Riddle me this Batman.
If Dallas has not won a championship and only won 3 playoff games in the last 23 years, how can Dallas have front running, bandwagon fans?
Because their fans are among the worst in all of sports? Perfect example is you coming on to a rival teams message board to troll.
How is it trolling when this is a Dallas thread. Go back and look at any post I have made. They are all strictly about the subject matter being discussed, nothing more.
I could stick with the Dallas sites, but you just get group think. I go to NY, Washington, and Philadelphia sites to read different opinions on Dallas. During the season I visit that weeks opponent site for their views on Dallas.
You should visit different sites and open up your mind to what other fanbases are saying about NY.
thing and doesn't renegotiate Zeke's contract, and makes him play out his existing contract, it will prove that Stephen Jones is definitely in charge. And Dallas is going to be a prominent team for many years to come.
If they buckle and make Zeke the highest paid RB, then Dallas will be just another team that hasn't adapted to the current NFL, and how to best optimize your cap dollars.

That's how Dallas got the moniker "Americas Team".
NFL films noticed this phenomenon. No matter what stadium Dallas visited there would be Dallas fans in droves.
There may not be an exact number of Dallas fans in attendance, but you would have to be oblivious not to notice.
after a generation of mediocrity, they don't have the same national presence with the 20 and 30 year olds. And hot cheerleaders aren't the pull they once were (A New York Cowboys' fan once told me this is why rooted for them.)
Crack reporting here

This is the NFL. A win is a win. Regardless of who is or isn't playing.

I agree with this. The Patriots have been "America's Team" for a long while now.
