When I used to get a pork roll, egg, and cheese, on a hard roll they always put ketchup on it as the standard way it was made. Matter of fact I think that it how I first came to like the taste, they just served it that way.

because then it breaks down into more of a thinner, vinegar-flavored condiment instead of a cold, sugary goop. Warm ketchup on a burger or with some fries randomly. Other than that, I'm not a ketchup guy.

I think ketchup ruins eggs and hot dogs.

Straight on eggs, I agree. But if you have am egg sandwich with a salty type of meat and some cheese it's not bad because you get that savory sweet thing going.

Not with bacon, taylor ham, sausage, ketchup is an assertive sauce that hits the same notes. It's like having Valencia and Paige blasting away on a solo at the same time.

Actually, it's not Russian nor French. Both have a base of mayo and ketchup. Russian, as you say, usually includes relish. French includes sugar and vinegar plus various other ingredients. So I'll leave mayo and ketchup as dippit, as I'm sure one of the grandkids named it :)

is basically just mayo and ketchup. There are versions of it that may contain relish or vinegar.

My old man used to put small dollops of ketchup on fried egg sandwiches. Also sometimes droplets of Worcestershire sauce. I got those things from him, and to this day (I'm 73) I always get a ketchup packet with my Egg McMuffins at Mickey D's.

I won’t eat scrambled eggs or a hot dog without ketchup. And I’m not a kid. Far from it. It’s just what I like. I probably wouldn’t be attracted to the women some of you are married to, because my taste is different than yours. Weird, right?

The corner deli or bagel store isn’t going to have a myriad of options being thrown around and the default is salt pepper ketchup. That’s the same whether on a bagel or hardroll as anyone who eats them regularly can attest to. You aren’t weird for not getting it but you are definitely in the minority. Now many parts of the country don’t have literally 5 places within a square mile to get this at, but if you are in tristate area this is basic stuff.

Also it’s a fried egg on the sandwich unless you ask otherwise. And having purchased breakfast sandwiches from many locales I can say only a small percentage would understand if you asked for something different.

I'm a food bargain hunter, and I often shop at a funky supermarket chain called Grocery Outlet, that rolls through excess lot productions and items approaching their sell by date when the big boys won't take those items any longer.

I can't help but look at every item that's a steal of a price, and just the other day my eyes were drawn to 3 packs of real imported Italian Prosciutto, thinly sliced 3 oz packets, all 3 for $4. Four bucks for over half a pound of real Italian Prosciutto conveniently vacuum packed thinly sliced in 3 x 3 oz packets.

Man that was hard to pass up...

with sweet butter and a slice or three of roma tomatoes on it might have to make it onto the menu soon if that prosciutto is still there tomorrow...

They happened to have "Fontina" as well, although domestic and not imported. Still pretty much the perfect cheese for that sandwich.

That adds to a meal. I always thought ketchup like mustard was a "safe" condiment. Something I could turn to and consume in abundance as opposed to mayo or thousand island or ranch or sour cream for example. Then i noticed that ketchup is a big offender of the dreaded HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP and have since moved to a Frenchs brand that doesnt include HFCS. Still tastes good and ketchupy and allows me some peace of mind. Just an FYI.

I got shit for posting a photo of a great burger I made (on a food forum) with a bottle of Hunt's ketchup alongside it. Hunt's is good ketchup, too but years ago when I compared it seemed Heinz's was more vinegary. I think they are closer in taste to one another now, but haven't bothered to test it. HFCS is definitely pretty bad for you. In fact it’s just as bad as cane sugar.

about it, but I notice when the ketchup isn't Heinz and if I had a choice I'd pick Heinz.

When the brand of ketchup comes up it always reminds me of the scene from Vacation.

favorite ketchup is Sir Kensington's, more tomatoey than sweet. I like all of their products (over priced as they might be).

I prefer Heinz over Hunts, but this stuff, while more expensive, has been winning me over lately - especially with eggs.
