Police in Braintree, MA posted the following announcement today:
"Due to the extreme heat, we are asking anyone thinking of doing criminal activity to hold off until Monday," the post said. "Conducting criminal activity, in this extreme heat is next level henchmen status, and also very dangerous.
"Stay home, blast the AC, binge Stranger Things season 3, play with the face app, practice karate in your basement We will all meet again on Monday when it's cooler."
Meaning, when the temperatures subside.

I live there and I agree. Maybe that's why Braintree PD wants them to wait until the temp drops (only kidding of course). And of course the whole statement by Braintree PD was said "tongue in cheek" for those that may not understand.
My friend's brother was a cop near San Diego (Chula Vista precisely, which is not a great place to be a cop) and he said the same thing. He left to become a paramedic instead.
Is this a serious post? The chief was clearly being tongue in cheek.
If the police force is full of self-aware, good natured, down-to-earth, brave men and women, that's a place I want to live.
I remember thinking vividly, "This guy needs to be a cop."

De-escalation is the word of the day for departments across the US.
Dropping out of elementary school is really coming back to bite you, huh?

And they are using military-grade technology (including vehicles) to deal with civilian protest (and deal with criminals and the odd (literally) citizen who themselves use combat armaments).
Kudos to forces that understand that the majority departments really are peace officers and try to diffuse situations with humor and humanization where possible.
STFU.
Can we get rid of this tool already? He's basically daring Eric and the mods to ban him.
RE: the military vehicles - lot of departments grab them because military offered them for free and they use them for their SWAT teams. 99% of police officers riding aournd in police cars, on foot, bikes.
The militarization thing has been overstated - it's most relevant re: police use, and sometimes overuse, of paramilitary units being used to serve warrants (e.g., drug searches)
