Just watched the "football life" shows about him. Fascinating and brilliant guy obviously. One of my take aways was that he clearly has a social anxiety disorder. I'm not going so far as to diagnose him with anything but man, he is uncomfortable is in own skin. Jusy my humble opinion. m
And btw, I am very in touch with the special needs community (my daughter has Down Syndrome and I coach Special Olympics with amazing individuals with all different issues)
...when he has to deal with the media.
However, your comment is not new, people have speculated about this for a long time.
I actually think this is another one of Belichick's troll jobs.
I seriously doubt you could thrive in the role of head coach in the NFL with all the media commitments and speaking roles and the respect necessary for you to command with your organization and others with any type of social anxiety disorder and the evidence I would point to is to look up old Belichick interview clips from his Giants days. He seemed giddy and super willing to meet with the media. Can you develop social anxiety later in life? Probably, but that's not what I think has happened here.
My theory is that he's decided to manipulate the media the same way he's manipulated the rest of the league.
"This is not a game for the most well-adjusted people."
Basically that sums up why George Young never got along with Parcells and passed over Belichick for Ray Handley.
I will say this, in knowing Byron Hunt for many years, he used to tell stories about Belichick and he said he's actually a really cool guy when he lets his guard down. He's funny and engaging. Very different than what you see when he's doing his job.
It's not much different than Hollywood actors. I worked with Chris Farley's brother Tom about 20 years ago at KPMG (hence the name of his movie "Tommy Boy" was for his older brother). He told me that Mike Myers used to sit in a corner and not talk to anyone and would look like an anti-social lunatic. And once the camera came on, he would explode and you would see him in Austin Powers doing his thing. Camera off, he would retreat again. For the record, he said the most naturally funny guy he ever met who was the same pretty much all the time was Ben Stiller.
I've never heard BB speak glowingly about Parcells, always there to give him a job. I surmise he has a conflicted love/hate relationship being the manipulee.

Parcells.

Quite the opposite IMO. Especially if you wants the "Two Bills" 30 for 30 special.
Belichick was the one with an obvious fondness, Parcells seemed the less enthusiastic of the two.

I had the same reaction. I actually sensed a bit of envy from Parcells. Maybe a bit of jealousy. BB was very complimentary for the things Parcells did to get BB ready for the move into head coaching...

It's like Billie Mays. In infomercials he yells at you to buy things, in interviews he's mellow low energy, almost world weary lol
