Mike Garafolo & #10004; @MikeGarafolo #Redskins LT Trent Williams is not expected to report to training camp with the rest of his teammates this week, sources tell me and @RapSheet. He didn't show for minicamp in June and it could be quite a while before he's back with the team. |
This is correct. He's pissed about the doctors with the Skins. He's been quoted as saying the trust between him and the team is dead and he wants to be traded. It's not money related.

But I think it has more to do with trust. I remember reading something earlier that the Redskins fucked with his medicals somehow and he's pissed.

You are correct with regards to his medicals. But it is a bit naive to think that it is not money related, also. He has 2 years remaining with no guaranteed money left on his deal. Those final 2 years pay him below his market rate. He'll make $11M for 2019 and $12.5M for 2020 in salary. If he was a FA, he would eclipse what Trenton Brown signed for (avg. salary of $16.5M). The key component is all about the guaranteed money. Brown received his first 2 years guaranteed at $36M. Trent Williams would easily get $40M guaranteed.
So yeah, good news for all the NFC east rivals of the Skins.
As far as his contract is concerned, I wonder how he feels being paid less than Landon Collins?

I recall that as well. However, might a boatload of cash change his mind?
Let’s be honest. Money talks.

Oh I agree. Money talks. But some of the local beat guys down here are saying he just plain wants out. And having no guaranteed money remaining gives him extra motivation to force their hand one way or another.
