Tarpley was optioned back to Scranton - Holder is back up.

We'll see if he's figured it out down there. He was okay in his 7 appearances. Still giving up some runs. Only 3 of those 7 appearances were scoreless (the other 4 he allowed 1 run)

Tarp will probably be back up sooner than later. Probably just shuttling him for the extra arm since he went 3 on Friday and may still need a day or two. Roster expansion isn't far away, either.

Have to admit Tauchman has been playing better than I thought he would. His defense has been very good, now his hitting is stepping up. Maybin not far from playing, either.

Now slap the crap out of these guys and send a message.

Tauchman is definitely making a strong case for himself. His type of role isn't easy yet he's performing well practically every time he's in the lineup. It seems like one of those years where every role player is coming through and the team doesn't miss a beat.

I have no idea how they're going to work Maybin in and I'm sure they will but I think barring injury, Frazier won't see the big leagues again this year.

I’m fine with no Frazier
UConn4523 : 7/22/2019 7:26 pm : link
keep the defense hold Frazier in the minors until a deal presents itself. If not, he will be here next year when gardy is gone. Or trade him next year.
.
arcarsenal : 7/22/2019 7:38 pm : link
Tauchman is forcing the Yanks to make a pretty tough decision when Maybin is healthy. He's been fantastic in the field and he's hitting now too.

Tauchman has started 7 games in July and appeared in 8. This is his triple slash:

.474/.565/.895/1.460

Now, this is is only about 20 AB's - but the guy has hits in nearly half of them. Paired with him being able to play all 3 OF spots and the fact that he's been playing them well - it's gonna be tough to send him down.

But he has options and we don't have that same freedom with Maybin right now.

I think we're just going to balance this for a bit until the rosters expand. I don't think we'll sacrifice Maybin just to have Tauchman up here an extra few weeks in August.

It becomes an easier decision if Gardy needs a quick 10 day IL stint - but we're not there yet and hopefully he won't need that.
.
arcarsenal : 7/22/2019 7:41 pm : link
And I agree on Frazier - he's not going to see the majors again this year unless it's with another club.

Which, to me, would be the right call. He seems to be improving a little defensively. Let him get his stock back up a little bit and get into a groove down there. If we wind up needing to use him to improve the pitching staff - so be it. If not, let him battle for a roster spot next spring.

Twins are 13-16 in their last 29 games. Not to mention we seem to always have their #. Not sure they are some big litmus test. Astros seem to be the only team in the AL that is a litmus test team for the Yanks now IMO.

I'm with you there.

I'm ok with including him in a trade but only for a top of the rotation type pitcher. Anything less and I say hold onto him for next season or see if there's a good trade this offseason.

In Cash we trust and he's been rolling seven's this year so I'm sure whatever he does will work out in the Yanks favor.
Not sure how tough Tauchman is making it...
BC Eagles94 : 7/22/2019 7:49 pm : link
he has options and Maybin doesn't. Discussion really ends there. Not to mention, people have short memories. When Maybin went down he was playing better than even Tauchman has played in his most recent stint up with the Yanks. When Maybin is healthy, he will be back and Tauchman will be sent back down. If Maybin really shits the bed upon his return for an extended period, then maybe you see Tauchman back up and Maybin DFA'ed. But with the extended rosters in September, chances are Maybin will be here through the regular season and Tauchman not back up until September 1st, unless there is an additional OF injury.

My sentiment exactly as well. Has to be the right pitcher. Definitely don't want him a package for stroman. Just something about seeing him 18 games or so a year would be tough.

I don't have a short memory - but Maybin has been in the majors for a long time now, and the production here in the SSS doesn't match his career numbers. He's a career sub-.700 OPS guy. It's not reasonable to expect him to continue to just seamlessly jump back into the lineup and continue hitting .314 and slugging .500.

I expect them to balance things as not to lose Maybin - meaning, Tauchman will be the guy to go when he's ready and then he'll get back up when rosters expand. I said that before.

But, Tauchman has been contributing quite a bit this month and every time he's getting the call, he's producing. It's probably not batshit to think that Maybin could return and struggle or be a downgrade from what Tauchman has been lately.

It's always tough to send a guy down when he's playing so well. Obviously they won't really have a choice.
.
arcarsenal : 7/22/2019 7:57 pm : link
I don't know if it's that NYY have beaten the twins 22 of the last 30 times or what, but the Twins just don't scare me and don't worry me.

They're not even playing particularly well right now.

It's definitely going to be the Astros that the Yankees have to be better than to get to the World Series. I think the Yankees are clearly better than every other AL team as it stands now.

I don't think that's necessarily true. It'll depend on the opponent, park, lineup, etc. I'd also definitely have someone ready to piggyback him - but it's not out of the question that he'd see a postseason start depending on the state of the rotation at the time and who is acquired at the deadline.

There's a chance German isn't going to make it too far because he's gonna have an innings cap. The IL stint actually helped that by allowing him to miss a few starts - but I still think the cap is going to factor in before he ever pitches deep into October.

We have no idea what (if anything) we'll get from Severino.

Happ has been a HR king all year. I'm not sure he's a guy you want starting a postseason game either. I know he got one against Boston - because that was the primary reason we acquired him - but that didn't even work out.

So, you have Tanaka and Paxton... and Paxton right now is looking like anything but a sure thing.

I fully expect that we'll add a starter, but I also think we may need CC in the postseason - and I'm pretty sure he's going to be expecting to get the ball when we get there. This is the end of the road for him. He's going to be ready to empty the tank and he's not going to sit and watch the entire thing from the dugout.

He might be done after 4 tonight. Unless we’re up 3-0 in an ALCS or World Series, I maintain he cannot be trusted. But at the same time, who really can be in this rotation as currently constructed? Cashman might have to go get another bullpen arm or 2 and try and pitch 8 guys every night in the playoffs.

We have to add a starter regardless of Severino.

There's no possible way for us to know whether he'll be able to help us and to what degree in under 10 days - and that's all we have. Hard deadline this year - we can't acquire more help post 7/31.

I think a package for Bumgarner and Will Smith makes a lot of sense. But first, the Giants would need to deem themselves sellers - and they're like 14-3 this month so they may opt against selling.

I like Stroman, but I think I'd trust Bumgarner a lot more - and if we're going to trade Frazier, I'd rather send him to an NL team like SF than send him to a team in the ALE.

ball in the dirt all night and he throws an 0-2 pitch down the middle. Bad pitch call by Gary, too.

And remember he's an anonymous scrub named Mitch Garber already.

I'm not blaming Gary for a pitch that was supposed to be down and away and ended up middle-middle. Cessa makes mistakes with location ALL THE TIME. That's why he's JAG, when he has better stuff than that.
how is it that Luis Cessa still has a spot in this bullpen

If he gives up 1 run over three innings, we'd be pretty damn happy.

Cessa not having options really sucks.

Calling the slider. Should have been a FB outside and low. I did not like a slider there.
That and $2.79 gets me a Tall at Starbucks...........

it’s true, but he narrowly dodged a 3-run Schoop homer, as well. I’ve just got no faith anytime he’s in, and I can’t believe that they can’t do better.

Just a long strike. Happens a lot. Only matters if it is fair.

I have very little faith in CC and Happ, and Paxton ain't much better.
From the best hitter on the

team, to practically useless. Gary is totally lost.

Twins with a lucky win.
Sanchez
Marty866b : 7/22/2019 11:40 pm : link
Is such an easy out right now and the last month has looked like the hitter we saw all of last year. Hopefully, he will hit his way out of this but I don't understand batting him in the middle of the lineup every game. DJ and Judge are constantly getting on and Sanchez is killing rallies. Is there something in the rules that says that Boone can't drop him in the lineup? Switching Gleyber with Sanchez until Sanchez snaps out of this slump has to be considered.

First three batters in line-up for Yanks -- LeMahieu, Judge and Encarnacion -- had 15 at bats and reached base 11 times. The next two batters --Sanchez and Hicks -- had 10 at bats and NEVER reached base!

That's a way to lose a game right there! Throw in a second lousy start (Sabathia) in a row against a good team and losing is practically a slam dunk!
Rough night
Carson53 : 7/23/2019 7:39 am : link
at the old ballyard, CC not good, El Gary even worse.
What a funk he is in (10-80), now affecting his defense...
3 catcher's interference calls in the last week or so.
He is up to 13 errors by the way, just saying.
Time to move him down in the order, let Voit move up.
He had a nice swing to the opposite field last night.
Hopefully they get a win with German going tonight.
Yankees
nygnyy274 : 7/23/2019 8:52 am : link
Wont win shit unless they get a prime time starter in the next week which seems unlikely. Sorry but we are not beating Houston putting Paxton and CC out there to throw batting practice. I don’t trust happ either against that line up. Last night CC faces a playoff team and gets pounded. Yankees are having a great year but there still cause for concern with this rotation and I do not see Scherzer or Bumgardner walking in the door anytime soon.
