I'm old, so my memory isn't great. But it didnt seem like Saquon got a lot of playing time last year in preseason.
If this was the Coughlin era, I might have been worried. Rookie = low meaningful time on the field and redshirt like rookie season. Bonehead mistake or God forbid fumble is almost a guarantee banishment to ghost town.
But it seemed reasonable. Barkely didnt just flash when he was on the field, he wowed! Giants knew what they had, Saquon reaffirmed that in the few s appx he got. And why risk the Future in meaningless preseason playing time. Plus, he did get a little 'jump up and bite me in the hammy' so understood.
All a long preface to 2019. I think the Giants are leaning towards carrying 2 QBs and Eli doesnt need to play more than 3 or 4 total quarters. So Daniel sees a damn ton of snaps this preseason??? I'm getting giddy with anticipation. I love Eli and want to see 1 tremendous year out of him... but then I want Eli Jr to take over. And DOMINATE!! A mobile quarterback??? What will we think when he busts a 25 yard scamper up the sideline??? Will it be the same excitement we all felt on Saquons first carry? That 39 yard juke and jive up the sideline leaving those bewildered Cleveland players in his wake?
Or remember Shockey's debut? Trucking defenders and making us think. Did we finally draft the second coming of Mark Bavaro???
So will what can we expect from Mr. Jones this summer?
Hopefully, that it comes back in deuces
Of course he played game 1. You don't remember his first touch went for like 40 yards? Haha. It was against Cleveland if I am not mistaken. To my memory, he hurt his knee (?) on a pass down the left sideline in practice and they held him out of most things after that.

And to talk about preseason, guys need to play especially rookies. This whole "I'm scared of injury" mentality is ridiculous. Jones needs reps on the field against unscripted defenses and new faces. You can't play scared.
Game 2: Possibly sits
Game 3: 35-40 snaps (plays at least half)
Game 4: Sits
As for the others, there's no backup "competition" this year so it may vary relative to 2018, but I expect all 4 to get time.
Jones
Game 1: 1.5-2 quarters (likely all with the "2s")
Game 2: Possible start, plays half (splits time with 1s and 2s)
Game 3: Finishes the game after Eli leaves (with the 2s)
Game 4: 1-2 quarters (with 2s); Likely less if 3rd QB still up in the air
Tanney/Lauletta
Give or take a quarter/game for each of them. Likely one game where they each sit.
I think it's likely that both Tanney and Lauletta get a significant number of snaps to determine 3rd string QB. And if Jones shows that he's ready for the backup role it may eliminate the need to keep Tanney.

Eli will get enough snaps to prepare for the season. Jones will get the rest, save for a few snaps or so for Tanney

Forgot about KL..Lol..Yes, agree..Thanks Jim..I still, as an armchair fan, would prefer they go with just 2 QBs once the season starts

Looks like he had carries in game 1

I think I missed the first preseason game but yes should hav3 remembered the big first carry highlight.
And rookies need plenty of preseason. You know it has to settle them down a good bit for when they really have to play...

No one is trading for either Tanney or Lauletta so show casing them in preseason is really not going to help. Combined they should get maybe 4 quarters in preseason. Eli should get 2 maybe 3 and DJ should 2 1/2 games to himself. Get him in the 2 minute drill and some key situations.
If we carry 3 QBs going into the season I will be very disappointed. For the 1st time in a long time we have talent beyond the #1s, I think we are stacked with DBs and could possibly get some picks for the some at the end of training camp. We need roster spots and no one is picking up Tanney or Lauletta for their roster. Have them stay in shape as a just in case.
Ha ha, that s great
Didn't they do that last year in game 2 with Webb and Tanney?
Game 1: 3rd & 4th Q
Game 2: 2nd & 3rd
Game 3: half of 3rd & 4th
Game 4: 1st & 2nd
Atrocious. Even in practice. An ironman qb, a high 1st rounder and 4th rounder.
