Philly sports radio today

flycatcher : 8/6/2019 7:36 pm
Scanning AM while driving in So. Jersey I heard some interesting things on Philly sports talk.

First off I was impressed, and also depressed, when I heard the commentators talking about X's and O's, blocking assignments, footwork, etc. - basically intelligent stuff that you'd NEVER hear on WFAN.

They said that they expect PHI to have a more varied and complex running game this season. On the other hand, there were serious concerns that PHI's defense is anemic at all levels, and that some key players are dinged up or on IR.

Our defensive roster should stack up well with PHI's offense. Our line is fortified, DB talent seems fit to cover man-to-man, and we might have a safety that can cover Julie Ertz's husband. If Philly's defense is soft, I think our improved o-line will allow Eli and Barkley to light them up. NYG could return to beating the birds this year.

Lastly, NY radio market content ought to be much better than what FAN puts out there.
They

have a very formidable front 4. Not a ton elsewhere, but if they can get to the passer we'll have a lot of trouble.
I'm not going to defend WFAN,

which I think does a lousy job as the Giants station. They'd probably answer that they have to cover 2 MLB teams, 2 NFL teams, 2 NBA teams, 3 NHL teams, some college football, local & national college basketball, plus a bunch of other odds and ends, like the Olympics. (Philly has 1 each of NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, and about the same amount of everything else.)

I don't buy it. WFAN could spend a 20-minute segment every day on hard-core, deep-dive Giants football talk, put it on the web and fans would listen.
Serious ?

Does WFAN have ONE-UNO, UN-host who is a Giants fan?

Used to say, “To be the man, you have to beat the man.” We ain’t beat the man consistently in a long time and I’m not sure we have significantly closed the gap enough.
I am curious what station...

you were listening to, because Philly has terrible sports radio with terrible hosts.

Please I heard you and Missanelli eat at Ralph’s every Thursday.
I haven't listened much since 2017.

I don't take happy Philadelphia fans well. I did listen when they lost to the Saonts and after the Raptors beat the Sixers. Usually this time of year is everyone planning the Eagles' parade although I haven't listened much since 2017 so maybe that changed.

No but they have a lot of Jet fans and a Bill fan as well.

How can you be the Sports radio station of NYC and not have a Giant's fan on it. The Jet talk and Met talk is just terrible for this Giant and Yankee fan.

I'm Giants/Mets/Knicks. I don't care so much who's a fan of what team, though it'd be fun to hear someone as passionate about the Giants as Joe Beningo is about the Jets. Joe & Evan are pretty even-handed when it comes to coverage, considering it's the Yankees station. There are plenty of Giants calls. But I don't think most of the hosts really do the Giants justice. Certainly not the way they do the Yankees.

My bad, it was FM 94.1 - around 11AM-ish, don't know the hosts...heard talking about blocking assignments for a bit, then I tuned to FAN and heard "Bro, DeGrom"; so I switched back again to the Philly guys to do some surveillance.

Agreed. They are terrible.
Except for Ray Didinger

There's absolutely no reason to listen to Philly sports radio
i got XM radio recently
cjac : 8/7/2019 7:10 am : link
and the main reason is because i want to listen to intelligent sports talk radio. WFAN is a bad comedy show, thats all it is. There's no intelligent football talk ever on that station.
That makes more sense, as 610 is garbage
George from PA : 8/7/2019 7:54 am : link
A bunch of screaming crazies.....

610 is their primary sport station and it sucks
