do the giants have to win thursday? Its a preseason and

plato : 8/7/2019 12:29 am
therefore a meaningless game right? I say NO, Giants must learn how to win and that starts ASAP.

there is much involved in learning how to win. i remember when Coach Parcells put the Giants first team back in the 4th Quarter of a meaningless preseason game so the Giant team of that time would remember how important winning is. it will be interesting to see how this coach approaches this. it will tell a lot about him and this team.

whether the jets makes it different i think is irrelevant. but we should be watching closely, there is more learning than just positional awareness going on.

Playing against the scheisskopf Williams in a meaningless game ...

The main objective is to get out with no major injuries ...
I only care about two things.

Play game injury free. Interested to see how rookies and second year players perform Thursday.
No injuries
Lines of Scrimmage : 8/7/2019 10:37 am : link
I will look for a few things.

-They win the line of scrimmage on both sides. This ultimately is what they are building to and what will win the East imo.

-With Tate mostly likely out I hope the WR's gain valuable experience and that Shurmur sees where they can be utilized best in the offense and hopefully a surprise candidate emerges.

-That we have some potential to get after the QB.

This is like what Rex Ryan did and took these games WAY too seriously

Most of the players on the field at the end of the game and "learning how to win" won't even be on the roster for week 1. You use the preseason to prepare your team and evaluate personnel, but you don't build a winning mentality in meaningless games.

would it be to come out of the game and say Wow, Jones looked good...

Agree but Jones is going to face the Eli issue. With the 2nd team OL in shambles due to injury he going to have a very shaky unit in front of him. Hopefully the Jets 2nd team D is equally inept.

Ok, well lets see how it goes. Dont need to caveat Oline issues in perpetuity...
1st team offense look competent
Coach Red Beaulieu : 8/7/2019 11:15 am : link
Or hardly play at all. I don't remember the last time I saw that in preseason. Rookies and young players making plays.

An actual useful bit of. "analytics" would be the correlation between preseason and regular season wins. I assume it's 0.
Greg Williams defense
Reale01 : 8/7/2019 11:34 am : link
Takes it all seriously, I worry about injuries anyu time we play his defenses.

Our #1 offense has looked bad in pre-season the last several years and it would be nice to see that change as there does appear to be a carryover.

The results are not critical but it would be nice to see them throwing the ball downfield a bit and controlling the LOS on offense.

It would be nice to control the LOS and get off the field on 3rd down on defense.

It's all Greek to me.
Winning this game is irrelevant
Torrag : 8/7/2019 1:54 pm : link
Starters won't play. Team won't scheme and game plan for the opponent.
I think you'll see Eli for a series or two
micky : 8/7/2019 4:26 pm : link
And rest of game spread between tanney & Lauletta...😁
It's going to be a blood bath
Joey in VA : 8/7/2019 4:29 pm : link
With no Remmers, Solder, Wheeler and Mihalik. Big George is a no go, so our top 5 tackles are out. That means guys like Paul Adams, Malcolm Bunche (who has been here for two days) and probably Nick Gates and Chad Slade have to man the OT spots. Gregg Williams is a dickhead supreme so he'll bring the house like the turd puncher he is. If all of our offensive players live, I will consider it a win.
Ill guess Eli gets a series or two
eli4life : 8/7/2019 7:02 pm : link
Then what? Tanney finishes the half then jones most of the second half and KL some time at the end?

Total must win. Just like the first spring training game of baseball season.

I think..
FatMan in Charlotte : 8/8/2019 8:31 am : link
it is more of an indication on how people react to a massively stupid premise.

Do they take it seriously or go off the rails since there isn't any meaningful discussion to be had.

But sure - blame society.

No, I think it's just how people react to really poorly thought-out ideas and threadstarts.

"There is more learning than just positional awareness going on"

What the heck does that even mean?
