*Zeitler's built like a tank. I've said this before, he reminds me of an offensive version of Justin Smith, the All Pro DT. 330# block of granite.
*Engram looks like he's dropped weight. Really wonder if he will be used as a WR more this year. He is NOT a Line of Scrimmage player in a running offense but they can find a way to use him effectively without tipping plays.
*Halapio (who is a big physical dude) looks like he's straining his a$$ off trying to block Dexter Lawrence. Good stuff.
when I read this in the blurb about Lorenzo Carter -
"Speaking of rushing the passer, the Giants made it one of their top priorities coming off last season. They signed Markus Golden, who had 12.5 sacks for defensive coordinator James Bettcher when they were in Arizona, and drafted Oshane Ximines, who was in the FBS top 10 last season in sacks, tackles for loss, and forced fumbles"
Top priority. hah.
Among many others, I'm curious to see Connelly and Conrad Â

Why laugh? It doesn't say "top priority," it says "one of their top priorities," which it clearly was.
In addition to signing Golden and drafting Ximines, they also signed Olsen Pierre, who had 5.5 sacks in 14 games (7 starts) for Bettcher in 2017. They're also expecting Dexter Lawrence to provide more of a pass-rush then most pundits expect, which is why he's spent a lot time at DE this offseason. And they've remade their Secondary in Bettcher's blitz-happy image, as well.
Just because they didn't draft Josh Allen when they had the chance doesn't mean that they didn't make improving their pass-rush one of their top priorities. Clearly, they had other priorities, too.
We just had the most draft picks in the history of the Giants if I am Â
not mistaken since the draft was shortened to 7 rounds. We are coming off a year where we had a really good draft as well. Limiting this to 5 players to watch sounds like click bait to me. I am excited by and will be focusing on way more than 5 players.
Just off the top of my head:
Daniel Jones
Lauletta (has he gotten better?)
Perkins (he has shown some glimpses in the past)
Any WR
Conrad
Most of our DL but the main guys may not play so McIntosh
Davis
Connelly
Carter even if it just a couple of series
Ximenez
Basically our whole secondary
All the rookies will be playing and I am curious as to who will be catching the football. We need to see some production in the passing game.
The pass rush is going to be a focus. The scheme more than any player will dictate the effectiveness. However, I am hoping Carter, Ximines, Golden, Hill and Lawrence show the ability to get consistent pressure.

Because it wasn't, in my eyes. Just because you brought in bodies, does not mean that it was a top priority.
I'd argue that the top priorities this offseason were the secondary and the offensive line. They invested heavily in these positions during the draft and through trades. Bringing in a backup D-lineman and a guy who had a nice season 2 years ago and has since had an injury, those seem like long shots.
And while I do hope that Dexter Lawrence turns into a good pass rusher, he didn't show that at Clemson, so it's another projection. In my mind the pass rush will be a top priority next year during free agency when we have much more cap room.

They didn't just bring in "bodies." They brought in players who they thought could help them, players who had performed well for Bettcher in the past, Golden for two seasons prior to his injury, Pierre for one. They're not "long shots." Jake Ceresna and Terence Fede are long shots. Markus Golden and Olsen Pierre are not.
For the second year in a row, they invested a Day 2 pick on a OLB/ER. And they revamped their Secondary because last year they couldn't cover anybody for love or money (and you still have to cover, no matter how fierce your pass-rush is), and Bettcher's scheme is dependent on having DB's that can blitz effectively, too.
Ok, well I guess we're just arguing semantics or have a different definition of what priority means. The Giants traded away their best pass rusher for O-Line help. They invested a lot in the secondary. They gave a couple of guys who had limited success as scheme fits in Bettcher's system modest prove-it contracts and drafted someone in the 3rd round.
I'm taking a glass half empty approach to this, and yours is half full. I hope you're right and they're able to generate a pass rush this year.

I’m excited to have a young core in the secondary. I don’t know if Darnold is playing but I’m sure they will see the almighty Webb.

I'm just hoping Lorenzo Carter develops in the 9-sacks-by-week-8 monster he somehow became in my Madden 20 franchise.
