Yep - for whoever has read Inside the Empire, you really learn about just how much attention to detail is paid by the Yankees org and how they work on developing these kids as human beings as well as ball players.
From the moment they enter the organization, they're coached up and given a lot of attention. The yanks really do a great job with their player development and it has a lot to do with why this next man up mentality just keeps working or us like this.
There is a LOT going on behind the scenes with this franchise. They put in tons and tons of work to maximize the chances of their kids succeeding.
I actually feel bad for Brandon Hyde... he has nothing there. His team is terrible. And they're just being completely demolished and embarrassed almost nightly.
He's frustrated... I don't blame him. They've given him virtually nothing to succeed with.
from the mid-60s through the early '70s the Orioles were just kryptonite to the Yanks (who were not very good during that time anyway) - Frank Robinson, Brooks Robinson, Paul Blair, Jim Palmer, Dave McNally, Boog Powell. They always found a way to beat the Yanks. It was very frustrating. In hindsight, they were just fundamentally better in every aspect of the game. (They did win a couple of World Series during that time so it wasn't just us.)
So it's weird to me to see the O's so fundamentally bad. That's never been my impression of the team, but that's what they are now.
Kenny Singleton is a treasure. He called Eshelman's fastball the "Ronald Reagan fastball" because he's only hitting mid 80's on the gun. I wish he would come up to Toronto and keep calling the games with Ruocco. They're great together.
And Maybin is on base for a 3rd time now because the O's still haven't figured out how to play defense.

GD Earl Weaver and his .188 BA shortstop Mark Belanger!
we played Kansas City or the St Louis Browns to those Baltimore teams.
Had a great double play combination, a great CF, four 20 game winners and if they had to turn it on, Frank Robinson was a fierce player. A warrior spirit to match Bob Gibson ( almost match)

You're 100% right about those old O's teams being so sound. I hated them for always having the Yanks number or seeming to anyway, but I always admired and respected how they played.
Hard to believe the same franchise has done a 180 but with this team it starts at the top. Their owner is as bad as the team he puts on the field and maybe worse.

Del, I remember those teams very well. They were very successful and frustrating to play. It amazes me that this Angelos owned team has been allowed to be such a cellar dweller. What's the sense of owning a team when you have no desire to make them competitive. Fans bitch about Dolan as an owner, and rightfully so, but Angelos has been equally as bad. Sorry state for the Orioles.

The Orioles were a model franchise for a long time, noted for the adherence to fundamentals, consistency, and professionalism that was taught at every level of their system. Paul Richards and Earl Weaver would be horrified by what the franchise they built has degenerated into.

Great post Greg - that is what I was trying to say. Here's a link to more info about it. Much as I hate any division rival in any sport, the current Orioles are sad to see.

What the 2019 Yankees are doing is just really incredible.
When Gary, Judge came up and Severino started to flash - that was exciting. Great talents
this year is exciting because the organization is flashing big time.
Solid baserunners. Throw to the right bases. Are not overwhelmed by the moment. Vets treat them well.
Manager does not even talk about easing them in. Just get to the Park and produce
Just glad we're on the other side of this thing.
Pax looks great. Keep rolling. Would love to keep the pen usage to a minimum tonight before we head to Toronto.

Somebody stop the damn match!
Let's not lose sight of the fine game Paxton has turned in.
Do you think SWB could beat the O's?

mercy rules. Maybe they need it in MLB, too.

Look at our lineup. SWB IS beating the O's
Yeah, the minute I posted that I thought, damn over 1/2 of SWB is here anyway.
That team is demoralized. Errors, pass balls, WPs, forgetting how many outs there are.
Soon as we lose one, they'll be here!
Do you think SWB could beat the O's?
Fuck that noise. I want 20!

Funny... 2 or 3 posters have been completely absent from Yankees threads since the start of this win streak.

the Oriole Way - ( New Window )
Fuck I’m old.
Pitching in the AL East must suck.
