We have our QB of the future in uniform.
The Q is, for how long? Three years? Ten? Fifteen and a few SB MVP's.
His selection will define DG. His selection will define whether or not we continue this awful, depressing string of lousy football.
I speak for everybody, we are tired of losing. We understand the process of a major rebuild.
Eli has a very, very short leash this year. I truly hope we don't have to see Mr. Jones under center until opening day next year.
I don't think that is going to happen.
For better or worse, tonight is the start of a whole new era in Giants football.
Doesn't sound like a short leash to me.
Respectfully, I disagree. I love 10 ball. The only thing I care about is looking better this year, WINNING and knowing our team is on the upswing. Eli is not part of that upswing. Enough, we have sucked for the better part of a decade, and I mean sucked.
What I will say is, Eli was lights out for the 1st 3 qtrs of that playoff loss in GB, the day Odell lost me as a long term Giant.
Tee thing to watch is how fast can he got through his progression (which will probably be two reads) and if he plays to the speed of the game.
This. The era doesn’t begin until he’s the starter.
This is BBI..😂😂😂😂😂😂

you r correct sir!
Remmers and solder have been full participants in training camp and have not been limited.
Mara was listening. He has been listening since mid 2017.
With that benching of Eli, which in theory was the right decision to evaluate what we thought we may have in Webb, backfired via Geno, the Giants leadership had egg all over their faces.
That in turn started the woah is Eli, poor Eli, etc.
I'm a fan of Eli. He has been a better than average QB in NY given all the distractions one has to deal with.
I also have been to a handful of games throughout the years including 17/18. His play has been putrid. Over/under throwing, inaccuracy, the long ball is all but dead.
The KC model is a mirage much like completion percentage given the vast amount of check down passes. Heck, to contradict myself, one could argue we're in fact utilizing the KC model simply because at his age, Eli is nothing more than an Alex Smith type QB minus the legs. Short pass after short pass until the redzone is reached then settle for a FG.
I believe the DJ era starts tonight simply because he is going to outplay Eli thru training camp as he becomes more familiar with the O. I believe with a young roster of players, they too are ready to lean towards the young, very highly drafted QB who is the future.
I also believe Mara, a big fan of Eli, is trying to make good on what happened in 2017 by paying him his outrageous salary as opposed to cutting him and using that money elsewhere -where it would be greatly needed.
We seem to go thru this every August with the pure optimism. This team is no where close to a playoff team. The OL and d has been addressed and will be improved but given the lack of stretch the offense WR, coupled with Eli ( today) is just an extension of 3rd and 8's going for 6 to 7 yards.
I don't feel that they will wait long to make a change at QB. I'm not buying the loyalty that they will simply wait until they are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs to do so.
The whole notion of DJ learning from Eli is romanticized. Sure, Eli isn't a dick the way Favre was to Rodgers but there are ego's involved here. Eli wants to play, and win.
I just don't think he has it in him anymore and while all the right things have been said by mgmt., I don't think they think he does either.
Thus, why I believe the DJ era starts tonight, regardless of his stats against the Jets.
I hope Eli proves me wrong and I will happily eat crow if he does.
With this OL's depth it could be a nightmare for him.
Agree. I think DJones will be asked to dink and dunk. I don't think they'll be a chance to get anything deep, but possibly if he's rolling out?! I think they want to get him comfortable throwing in the NFL.
However, for the Anti-Jones crew, this is the night they have been waiting for, in the flesh evidence that Daniel Jones stinks! Any incompletion, bad read, any hint of nervousness, and they are gonna POUNCE! Anything other than a HOF worthy performance and well, DG better stay off of social media tonight. As an example of what a lot of people think, I found this on the Football Outsiders website yesterday:
"And we haven't even talked about Daniel Jones yet. The Giants claim up, down, and sidewise that multiple other teams had Jones as a top prospect and it wasn't just them who wanted to take him as the sixth overall pick. That does less to convince me about Jones' prospects as a passer than it does about the poor decision-making processes of front offices around the league, mind you. I'd rather have Dwayne Haskins (15th overall) than Jones. I'd rather have Drew Lock (42nd overall) than Jones. I'd rather have Ryan Finley (104th overall) than Jones. I'd rather have Jarett Stidham (133rd overall) than Jones. So yes, I get all the negativity, and the jokes, and I will continue to join on them, because I do not believe Dave Gettleman knows what he is doing."
I don't believe you can give a link to anyone in Giants' authority saying that.
There was a BBI poster who claimed Eli had been promised that.

is this really in doubt at this point?
Brady's "extension" basically allows him to void and be a FA at end of this season!
is this really in doubt at this point?
That's a matter of opinion. Whether "the Giants" said something publicly is a matter of fact.
"Eli as long as they're still in it" may be the most plausible scenario but it's not a total lock. If NYG is still hanging around a playoff possibility with a mediocre record and Eli has some bad games, who knows.
By showing it in practice, do you mean the scout team? Because he is not going to get many first team reps
Like Rodney Hampton's first touch.

The poster you're referring to was proven to be a fraud and then banned for going off the rails.
1 what if Eli lights it up this year? Where do they go from there?
2 what if DJ looks every bit the part and is really impressive the entire preseason? Would that make it harder to keep him on the bench even if we are competitive
The preseason is nearly meaningless. The Giants got off to a poor start because they were a bad team, not because the starters didn't play a ton. The Rams barely played their starters and came out crushing teams.

Me included, wanted to see Eli get this season. However, it does cloud the issue as to when the Jones era begins.

And therein lies the answer that is hard to dispute for the argument that it should be Jones’ team today.

If it is obvious Eli is being outplayed by Jones, the Giants being in mathematical contention will have no bearing on when Jones plays
An organization loses its credibility if players understand the better quarterback is not playing due to loyalty, which I ve always believed was a ridiculous thesis being put forth by the Mara critics.
Appreciation and a belief he can still play is what motivates him still being on this team

statements on its face. In the unlikely event we are winning games, hovering around .500 and Eli looks bad, but DJ is showing in practice do you really think he is going to stay on the bench? I seriously don't.

1st round QBs get more reps than your average backup QB, they also run the scout team. Yeh they aren't getting a ton of reps in our offense, but if he is performing on the scout team against our defense on the scout team that will be apparent. Daniel Jones won't just be sitting around watching the whole time.
I would lmfao if he ran for an 80 yard TD.

If we had a vet stop gap in place (I know I'm beating a dead horse) that may be true but I don't think the org will ask Eli to sacrifice the way he is accustomed to preparing for games.
They tried that once....once

IMO. Hopefully, he learned his lesson last year and the starters (with the exception of Barkley) get a lot more playing time during the preseason. Injuries are a concern, but this franchise cannot afford another extended winless start. They need to be prepared to go week one.

That and the entire right side of the OL was a turnstile, a rookie was playing LG, and the LT was hobbled.
