...he'd be batting in the three hole for the New York Yankees, what would he have said?
Some great players come to the Yank's and crumble under the NY spotlight. Sometimes a career journeyman comes to the team and suddenly excels in NY. Urshela, Tauchman, and Maybin all fall under the later (at least for this year). I am happy they all have found success with the Yanks (so far this season). I don't see all of them sustaining it, particularly when you consider how much they are playing above their career averages.
garnered 2.65 million signing bonus. Later was the crown jewel in the trade that sent Cabrera tot he Tigers. Maybin just never developed. Delighted he waited until he got picked off the junk heap by the Yanks for the light to come on.
Urshela is different. 450 lifetime AB's before this year.
These guys just come at you again and again. They beat the living piss out of bad pitching to the point where even an average pitcher can't deal with them let alone a below average one.
I'm enjoying this team as much if not more than the 98 one and I never thought I'd say that about another Yankee team. I'm not jinxing them or anything, strictly talking about the two regular seasons.
The 98 one was so much fun to watch day in day out that season and damned if this one isn't right up there with it for me.
I am 110% sure the staff is already cognizant of it - but they have to make sure that German is available in October. We absolutely are going to need him and can't have him hitting a wall when we get there.
I hope they skip a couple starts and do whatever they need to do to make that happen. Our lead in the division is growing by the day - we can afford to keep his innings suppressed. Especially when we have more available arms in September.
Get Cessa in there before this gets too close and we have to start using leverage guys.
LOL. Can't believe we have faith in Cessa over German in any context...
LOL. It sounds crazy to even ask for Cessa.. but it looks like German is just running out of steam and I really don't want to see them get all the way back in here.
And we lose Stanton for virtually the season and Judge is waving trying not to further damage his oblique. Love the winning but I really hate not seeing our best at their best.
to qualify for the batting title. By my count, Urshela is just short of that right now and should get there (enough PAs) by the end of the season. At this pace, DJLM could win the AL batting title with Gio finishing second.
Just sayin'...
John Smoltz and Harold Reynolds are ripping the studio guy with them Â
CHC and CIN had a particularly brutal position player pitching. Serving up meatballs that no one was hitting. Baez even took his AB lefty, it was such a joke. Smoltz had an aneurysm and was really pissed.
but they mentioned last night that no pitcher has thrown three straight days all season, which is crazy. Compare that with Flash Gordon's game log from 2004. Link - ( New Window )
Grrrrrrr....still angry at Torre over how he treated Gordon Â
Abuses the hell out of a 36 year old with a history of arm trouble then, when he predictably is running on fumes by the ALCS, implies in his book that Gordon was scared of the moment.

You can add Scott Proctor and Paul Quantrill to the list,
they rarely had anything left come October.

That pissed me off too. Torre should never have mentioned anything about Gordon's mental state. He was running on fumes. There was no reason to even comment on it.

Yep. And it begs the question - if he was such a chicken, why did you keep throwing him every single game????
This is a guy who threw 89 innings in 80 games, again as a 36 year old who had a history of arm trouble. Yet, after he pitched in each of the first two games, Torre uses him with an eleven run lead in the ninth inning of game 3?
Is that the Bosox may be willing to consider offers for Mookie during the off-season. The team has offered Mookie a 8-yr, $200M extension that Mookie turned down.
Shades of The Home Run Dispenser in 98!
Also, Gio Ursehla's hitting this season makes no sense to me. Is he on the roids?
.228/.287/.404
.228/.287/.404
that includes him hitting .368 on Toronto's last road trip.
See if Guerrero can keep from eating himself off the field.
He also looks like a secretary.
Fuck Eric Sogard.

Since July 4 (in 22 games) Mike Tauchman is hitting .423 with a 1.284 OPS with six HR, seven doubles, a triple and 22 RBI

How did I not know this nickname until now.
Could be a two seamer or a changeup

Thanks
Love that guy.
I know its wrong to assume this but I was thinking this too.
Tell me about it... I feel like I'm watching the Crimson Tide all over again. Why can't we get the damn kicker right?!

Me too. They were one of the most obnoxious teams when they had an ounce of success a few years ago.
Stanton is out
Torres is out
Yet we keep scoring runs
He does seem expendable if Tauchman is legit. And he seems legit.
Save some German innings for later. He's on an unknown to the public innings count.

lol. I love watching TOR suck.

Between Bautista, Russell Martin, and the beer throwing douche bags, I won't feel bad if TOR never wins again.
Oh yeah. Forgot about rat tail Donaldson. Good riddance.
I know. I still dont care. Hope they are horrible forever.

If his innings are a concern then they should just get him out now.

and let Cessa pitch the other 4 innings.

Definitely wouldn't mind that also. Most guys haven't pitched in a few games too, so bullpen is rested.
and only two hard hit balls that I can recall
I hope they skip a couple starts and do whatever they need to do to make that happen. Our lead in the division is growing by the day - we can afford to keep his innings suppressed. Especially when we have more available arms in September.
And German with his prerequisite shitty inning after cruising all night.

3 hits for LeMahieu!
Was just thinking the same thing and he looks dejected. He is missing almost every pitch he swings at.
Not too shabby.
Let's hope for more of that.

He has great stuff. Maybe he's finally put it together.
Juiced balls. Anyone can impact these baseballs.
672 OPS in the minors... so he's basically Babe Ruth

Ok, we get it. The balls are juiced. Can you stop being absolutely freakin obsessed with it? It’s getting annoying as hell

*shakes magic 8 ball*
"requested behavior unlikely"
If this team can hold it together and get healthy enough for playoff run, then yes. Thad Levine currently has my vote.

I’m not surprised
Another win for NY/SWB.
37 it is!
The machine just keeps rolling... 12 more runs tonight. Bludgeoning the ever loving shit out of these ALE doormats and I'm loving every second of it.
Nice W.
I've seen her before with the Jays. Not bad. Probably 40ish.
This is very important. If Cessa can do one of these per week or 10 days, it will save the big boys for when they are really needed.
