And Goodson will be lucky to make the team. He didn’t see the field until the second half.
Meanwhile Connelly had 4 solo tackles and was in the mix on nearly every play. It’s only preseason but I haven’t seen a Giants LB make plays like that in forever.
I thought we had food LB play all game.
He was by far the best LB the Giants had on the field.
He was decent, but his play didn’t jump off the screen.

#Giants need to get that LB Connely out of the game, he's too good to be playing with 2nd string players. He might be the best LB the Giants have had in years. #NFL #preseason

Didnt look bad either.

I just looked at his stats, he also had 4 solo tackles. I stand corrected
I wonder if he is big enough. Seems a bit thin to play inside. Got a motor and a nose for certain.

? I guess you’d rather have someone like Goodson, who is big and invisible? I’ll take Connelly any day of the week.
The size/speed obsession is what kept Reese from actually drafting good LBs.

He's considerably bigger than Davis

Scratch that, not exactly "considerably", but larger nonetheless
Gettleman seems to know what he's doing in the draft.
Which is nice.
This.
They looked decent....but still not sure if Davis and/or Connerly.....are ready for prime time.
There is something about Connerly that offers hope

Haven’t watched after the delay yet minus a series or 2 but Davis seemed to be around most every play and Connolly didn’t banks say his biggest problem was that he tends to get caught in the wash during the plays? I’m guessing that didn’t happen much last night
After years of watching the Cowboys trot out good LB after good LB, the Giants may actually have a playmaker at LB.
And, FWIW, Davis and Connelly are listed as $LB on the "official" depth chart, whereas Ogletree and Goodson are ILB.
That said, if they're not as set on 4 ILB and 4 OLB then Carlock definitely took a step towards Goodson's spot (the top 4 OLB spots are likely locks: Carter, Martin, Golden, and Ximines). I thought Jonathan Anderson flashed a few times last night too.
I was keying on him and he was timing things very well to get to the ball carrier or at least to get a piece to slow the runner down.
He looks like he has those instincts you can't really teach.

I think Carlock is strictly an OLB

the immediate thing that leaps off the screen with him is his ability to read keys and diagnose plays. He finds the ball very quickly, very few false steps. This alone puts him well ahead of most young players. Coach him up, get him used to the NFL game speed, and get him stronger.

He was so quick to the ball a couple times I was trying to figure out if he guessed correctly or picked up on the play by reading formation and snap movement.

How is daddyhood treating you, dad?
good stuff, happy for you and the missus

Not to be underestimated.
Goodson is making the team unless he gets hurt, IMO
I just looked and Connelly in 2 inches taller and a few pounds heavier.

Why does everyone keep saying he needs to get stronger?
As to Goodson - he is third string now based on snaps last night. And Tauaefa has more upside than him.
Goodson is a poor fit for Bettcher's scheme and I'd be surprised if he makes the team. The fact that he didn't see the field until the second half speaks volumes to me about his likelihood of being on the roster.
I think either late his rookie year or the following year he was moved to LB full time.
