But if you watched you can see how vanilla the defense was. Almost no blitzes. Gettleman went heavy on cover guys. Expect Bettcher to manufacture a rush by being way more aggressive than he was last year.
Mostly backups played and they got some pressure. They moved Darnold off his spot as well on the play he hit the TE when Peppers turned him loose. Nice movement and throw by Darnold there.
Realistically we'll know much more after Game 3 of the preseason than we do now.
1. We actually did get decent push on a few of the passing downs. We just didn't get home. Darnold was able to squirt away and find an open man downfield.
2. Bettcher is going to do a lot of blitzing this year - don't expect to see much of that in preseason. He's not going to show anyone his real blitz packages before Dallas.
3. Expect this to be a bit of a problem most of the year - pass rushers are one of the few things still necessary here that we weren't able to secure this offseason.
I hope you're right, but we were told the same thing last year about Bettcher - I'll beleive all the blitzing when I see it. Quite frankly, I'm half expecting them to drop Lawrence II into pass coverage.................

Big difference in the DB depth this year. I think that will allow him to use more front 7 guys aggressively.
A healthy Jenkins + Baker, Love, Ballentine and Beal on top of Peppers/Bethea should, on paper, be a very big upgrade from guys like BW Webb and Curtis Riley.
If Jake Carlock continues to play well, he should make the team Â
