"I'm impressed with everything. There's not an actual word I'd put on it. But he's gonna be a great one. He's very poised, very smart - you can tell by his eyes, he comes ready to play and that's something you like to see in your teammates."

- Wayne Gallman on Daniel Jones

Giants starting offensive linemen had never really played with Jones before. They came away impressed.

Zeitler: He made some great throws, he made some great decisions... Good first drive. About as good as you want it to be.

Bennie Fowler: "None of it surprised me. He was poised, calm, confident. Thats the way hes been since he got here in OTAs. Im very happy for his success. Its just the start.

"The cool thing about Daniel Jones is, he came in there and he didn't seem like a rookie quarterback to me. He was sure. Was loud. Was firm. Handled the huddle with certainty, all the assurance in the world." - Will Hernandez, in huddle with the #Giants rookie QB 1st time tonight

So, Daniel Jones admits he wasn't perfect after all. He forgot to motion the tight end and that left Wayne Gallman 1-on-1 with the defensive end. "I owe Wayne one," Jones said.

That was Jones' first throw: a 5-yard completion to Cody Latimer.
How special would it be for the fans and this organization

If DJ is another franchise QB for the next 15 years.

To not go through QB hell, like we did in the 90's, after winning 2 championships, would be a blessing.

He looked
darren in pdx : 8/9/2019 12:54 am : link
like what he looked like in his college games. Good accuracy, good touch and placement. The difference was the o-line wasn't a sieve and the ball didn't bounce off his receivers' hands. He probably never had the amount of time in the pocket the o-line gave him on the throw to Latimer on the side-line.

Has a lot more to show, and remains to be seen how he does when he's under more pressure and has to go through multiple progressions but it was good to see that his first outing he looked like a professional QB and not a rookie. Really happy with the performance and just for him overall after everything, he must feel great inside even though he's not going to show it or admit it.

He was picked #6 overall. He should be exactly that.

Good post, very similar to what I saw fwiw. A lot of carryover from what he did well in college, just w/ better teammates

I was a bit surprised at his confidence & decisiveness, something IMO you'd see go up & down depending on the Duke game (esp w/ the poor surrounding cast). Similarly decision-making esp under pressure will be one of his biggest tests, tho that's common for all QBs & esp rooks
Cris Carter and Nick Wright should be made to apologize

I can name you a few that were picked before 6 that did not meet your criteria. There s no guarantees, your veiled criticism of the pick is based on a false premise

This is the answer to everything Carter does or says. He was also the leader of that team and they quit (also lost to the mediocre Falcons in the NFCC with one of the best offenses in NFL history).

Yes, but there have been QB busts/disappointments picked higher.

No guarantees

Duggan has a piece in the Athletic with the reactions of the Jets CB on the TD.

Impressive piece

Can you summarize?
I saw a few what I think are misconceptions in the game thread about
PatersonPlank : 8/9/2019 9:21 am : link
DJ's play.

First this weak arm stuff. I really think people are confusing touch with weak. He can make every throw, he just seems very aware of trying to make each ball as catchable as it can be (possibly to a fault). So instead of zipping the ball outside for example, he's trying to lay it in there. I think with time he will find the happy medium.

Second, locking on receivers. Yes this is a bad thing. However its a good thing if the QB can quickly/immediately recognize what the D is doing, and then has enough control of the offense to know that "if the D does this then this WR should be open". I think this is what you saw. Its not locking on if he quickly figures things out and looks at the WR who should be open.

I think he looks really good, so far as good as anyone drafted in the this class or last.
Comment from Hernandez is the best

Will confess their sins today? I doubt it....none of them have humility and all think they know more than everyone else, especially that one loud mouth....I forgot his name.
