Daniel Jones

mdthedream : 8/9/2019 7:12 am
What I really like about him is how he ran Shurmurs system really well. Quick play action pass and get the ball out quickly. Kid looks like the real deal. I always say the eye doesn't lie. You can see his talent and leadership. Look forward to the next preseason game.
It looks like he's an accurate thrower.

that was good to see is the WR had a good hands day. They didn't drop passes and looked very effective.
Could not have scripted a better night...

...for Daniel Jones.

But one thing that keeps catching my eye and that is he seems to have a bit of a long, wind-up motion.

Maybe I'm seeing it wrong.

I didn't notice that. The delay in his delivery seemed like he was taking a beat or two to stare down the receiver, but that's in line with his scouting report.
He did exactly what he needed to do last night
cjac : 8/9/2019 7:32 am : link
He had poise, he read the defense and he put the ball exactly where he wanted to put it. He needed to show the world that he deserved to be the 6th pick and I think he did that
The best thing I read on him
UConn4523 : 8/9/2019 7:39 am : link
was from will Hernandez. While I don’t expect them to say anything but good things, his words about him stood out. He was loud, calm, and commanded the huddle - great to hear.
To step onto that field
joeinpa : 8/9/2019 7:40 am : link
Amidst all the unprecedented negative scrutiny he has gotten, another example piling on uninformed reporting, and perform the way he did, tells me something about this kids focus and inner confidence.

I liked this pick the second it was announced, last night did not dampen my enthusiasm.

Well, if in fact that proves out, what a HAUL, SB and DJ

Still smh how he managed to get that TD pass into what looked like a non-existent window. Even on replay it didn't look like a clear path to the receiver

On his 5 pass attempts the Giants receivers averaged 1.4 yards of separation. The NFL average last year was 2.8 yards of separation. So he had to be really accurate and he was.
I k ow that the delay played a huge part

best part is not just that he fit it in but made it an easy catch. he didnt force the reciver into the air where its harder to come down inbounds

You are all liars.

Cris Carter isn't impressed. He played against backups and his TD throw would have been picked off.
Good qbs
crick n NC : 8/9/2019 9:06 am : link
See the receiver open before he is, because he knows how to throw them open.

In a way a good QB is seeing or anticipating what is about to happen.

^This. In the NFL, QBs don't so much throw to a player as to a spot.
Agree
PaulN : 8/9/2019 12:00 pm : link
If Jones turns into a real good QB, with Barkley looking like he is a once in a generation talent, Gettleman will become an icon too. To land a franchise QB, and a generational running back in back to back drafts is franchise altering. We needed it after what Reese did. Let's hope this continues.
Daniel Jones...

...yes! But don't overlook the protection he received. He had a huge pocket and could have made a phone call before throwing the ball.

Well he won't have that every snap but we hope this line is good enough where it's not some sort of aberration.
That really may be the case
santacruzom : 8/9/2019 1:24 pm : link
And if he has a natural knack for comprehending and executing Shurmur's offense, I hope the Giants at least consider making him the week 1 starter.

One of the pregame show guys kept referring to the effect it had on Carr's teammates who all noticed the difference between he and Schaub. He also noted how it helped them all to grow and develop together and get used to his tendencies, as opposed to becoming acclimated to one QB and then adjusting to another.
No one shat on Kingsbury for taking Murray as a "system-fit" QB
Leg of Theismann : 8/9/2019 2:00 pm : link
But that's exactly what Shurmur/Gettleman did and they got crucified. Granted, Murray had much better college statistics, but still, everyone seemed to leave out the fact that DJ fit Shurmur's system perfectly, which his huge.

Interview he said he made some mistakes. I order what mistakes he made going 5 for 5 and a TD. Maybe looking at defensive coverages?

The big one was forgetting to motion the tight end but Gallman saw it and picked it up and Jones got the ball out quickly before he got hit.

He mentioned that he forgot to motion the TE and left Gallman one-on-one with the DE. Forget which play it was.
Thanks

You might be confusing accuracy with arm strength. Arm strength will go far. Accuracy will go straight.

By "people I consider to be in the know", are you by any chance referring to David Gettleman and Patrick Shurmur?

Well he won't have that every snap but we hope this line is good enough where it's not some sort of aberration.

While it's not a guarantee he'll be great in those situations, he has dealt with PLENTY of pressure in college (entirely too much), showed many solid throws while getting hit, and toughness to repeatedly get back up (Clemson game was worse pressure than Eli in SF, tho of course Duke lost. Still, DJ kept them in for 2.5 3 qtrs...and it was almost ALL him on O)

IMO the 'no pressure' comments re: last game imply he's never seen it, yet IMO that's probably one of his best traits (likely among the toughest rook QBs based on that). Obviously it won't matter if it doesn't hold up in the pros, nor will we know til he's in a competitive regular season game, but IMO he's done plenty to show he will be able to handle it as he develops based on his college play
Obviously I haven't seen all the QBs in college
ChaChing : 8/15/2019 1:29 am : link
but I doubt many have THAT much toughness, and even if any do he's still likely near the top of the list

To be clear, that's different than production under pressure...not sure how he's fared officially. But I am quite hopeful he will handle NFL physicality, D pressure, throws under duress if not just getting back up after hits, ready for the next play. He's shown a LOT of that resilience on his college tape so I don't think that will be some huge issue
