Important Dan Duggan Tweet on Special Teams

This is a pretty good indication of who has a leg up on roster spots...

ST important for 53-man considerations.
Starters on all four core units last night: Michael Thomas, Nate Stupar, Rod Smith
Three units: Russell Shepard, Ryan Connelly, Sean Chandler, Corey Ballentine, Julian Love
Two units: Scott Simonson, DeAndre Baker, Eli Penny, Paul Perkins
Paul Perkins

played his way to the back of the RB group last night. He was dreadful.
Yeah not sure why anyone

Here thought Perkins was going to bump Gallman off the roster. I never saw anything in Perkins, slow to react and read, very replaceable. Gallman was solid last year and I think gets underrated around here.
I don't think that Perkins played great

but keep in mind that it's been more than a year since he's played in any sort of contact situation.
Perkins certainly didn't help his cause

But, there is still plenty of time to make a good impression.

Hopefully Barkley watches the next 3 games.
I don't see what Perkins adds to the team (and I was a fan originally)

Gallman seems to do everything he can better, and he isn't a physical back either
Penny vs Smith
ij_reilly : 8/9/2019 11:07 am : link
I would think odds are that both won't make the final 53.

Hey, maybe they'll both be cuts!

But based on the 1st preseason game and STs, Smith would have to be the favorite over Penny, at this very preliminary time.

You never saw anything in Perkins during his rookie year? Interesting take.
Perkins

is more shifty than quick. He needs a hole. He's best at the second level. That wasn't going to happen behind third string OL. On the fumble, he was hit from behind. It happens. It's too early to make any conclusions about who will backup Barkley.

Perkins is a better receiving back. But I think Gallman's got the backup spot locked up (even before last night). I think it's Gallman, Smith, Penny and Hilliman for 1-2 spots.

For the winner in my opinion even the fumble was really
a bit freak play credit the defender for hustling but
he has to take care of the ball . I won't write him off yet
but if he coughs up the ball again then he is likely gone .

Paul “LeSean McCoy” Perkins?
The fact the BJ Goodson didn’t see any action until 3rd quarter
nyjuggernaut2 : 8/9/2019 11:49 am : link
and didn’t see much time on specials either makes me believe his days as a Giant are numbered.

I think Perkins is a better receiver, which is important in the offensive scheme.

Let's see what he does next week
Gave up on Perkins a long time ago
90.Cal : 8/9/2019 12:16 pm : link
You should too. He cant break a arm tackle to save his own life. Cant catch. Fumbles. Cant block. Give it up. Another player to give up on is Goodson. Like what I saw last night from our Linebackers not named Goodson. BJ should be done here. He could be bottom of the depth chart type depth but he should only be on the field if we get multiple injuries.
my son said last night that
Tom from LI : 8/9/2019 12:23 pm : link
Gallman runs like he ran into a bee hive and is being chased and swarmed by bees..
And then on one of the runs he does it, he is spinning and stomping and flailing behind the line and nobody is really near him..

I had to laugh and give it to my son for that.
If Goodson has one quality that stands out among the LBs...
Big Blue Blogger : 8/9/2019 12:37 pm : link
...it's his ability to take on blockers. Maybe that gets devalued behind a line that just added Dexter Lawrence; but I do worry about our linebackers getting pushed around. There are some very good interior linemen in the NFC East.
Add me to the list of people who has never seen anything in Perkins.
Red Dog : 8/9/2019 12:39 pm : link
Didn't like the pick when he was drafted, didn't see anything in him as a rookie, and wasn't surprised when he quickly lost the starting RB job after it had been given to him largely by default. Another Reese/Ross pick who won't be here after Labor Day weekend.
