He rarely ranks quarterbacks, or says which he prefers. He talks about scheme fits and that quarterbacks need to go to the organization that will be the best fit.
He probably said some nice things about Davis Webb, and that Mahomes had arm talent but needed a lot of coaching, because he was unrefined and had some bad habits...which many, many people agreed with back then. I can't imagine Cosell going on record saying he thought player A clearly better than player B. He talks about skills and traits, he's not into ranking.
RE: I don't think he actually liked Davis Webb more than Mahomes Â

The funny part is that Mahomes had the same bad habits as he did in college. Can't remember how many times I saw him throw the ball all arm when he easily could of got his feet under him. Only missed one from my recollection. Some guys it doesn't matter.
Cosell is skeptical apparently that QBs who have uneven accuracy can improve really dramatically. This comment was in response to a good question from Tucker about Buffalo QB Josh Allen.
Also, he thinks Utah St QB Jordan Love is a top 5 possibility for the 2020 draft.
Cosell was very impressed by Jones’ throws last night.
While it wasn't much - I enjoy listening to Cosell. I can rmemeber last year he discussed the type of QB's he likes the most is pocket QB's - which I prefer too.
That meant his two favorite guys last year were Rosen and Mayfield. One was super for a rookie the other not good but had his reasons with such as a bad OL. He liked Darnold but he wasn't his type of guy but he didn't like Allen.
Allen was the 1 guy I didn't want for sure. Others prefer his big play ability and his ability to make plays from nothing and called it the new wave QB. No thanks -- give me accuracy.
I'm excited to see how Jones performs obviously as a GMan fan. But for example Cosell did not love Jones coming out. He had him as a 4th rated qb. He had similar concerns SY had and he questioned how well Jones can throw under pressure / off his back foot etc.
We'll have some nutjob posters say after this preseason game DG was right etc - it's nonsense. I'm excited to see Jones at some point this year and with a what I expect a pretty good team for next year.
The Gmen will have it made if he is good. Well be able to watch meaningful Dec football and watch potential champions. Having Barkley allows this QB a super chance to succeed early on. I hope what winds up happening is that SY's and Cosell's concerns of Jones become water under the bridge. I like his 1st game.
But not even close to saying DG was right. It's laughable to suggest that. SY's concerns as well as Cosell's still stand. ANd I think another concern of Jones but also a positive was "high floor but low ceiling." Well at least today we got a possible glimpse of why he is probably a high floor QB.
I like Cosell but he like Webb more than Mahomes.
Quote:
there's probably bigger gap between him and #2 then there is between #2 and the worst...
I like Cosell but he like Webb more than Mahomes.
Kingsbury started Webb over Mayfied at TTech...a lot of people were in on Webb
I like Cosell but he like Webb more than Mahomes.
Sy liked DeShone Kizer over Mahomes.
I really don't quite get scarlet letter move because professionals miss on their projections...
