And now this: Raiders’ WR Antonio Brown has told team officials that, unless he gets to wear his old helmet, he will not play football again, per league sources.
And more....

Antonio Brown believes the new helmet that the rules mandate he wears protrudes out and interferes with his vision as he tries to catch football. The Raiders have been sending Brown other approved helmets to try out but, at this time, he is not interested in wearing any of them.
He's a fucking lunatic. The Raiders made a very big mistake bringing this guy aboard. He's not worth this headache. He's a great player, but no one is worth this. Just a daily headline and utter distraction after distraction.
He has gone from loving AB, to being confused by him to pissed at him to being truly worried about him. He said...

Nutty behavior, but I too feel badly for him, health-wise.
I love how he said “Aaron Rogers doesn’t have to do this” Â
It does seem like Brown has been particularly off the rails the last couple of years - he didn't seem like this type of guy before that. He was always a little bit of a character, but he's just really been particularly looney recently.
I won't speculate on head shots or anything - though the one he took from Burfict a few years ago was brutal - and I have no idea if he's mentally okay or not. It's not my place to speculate on stuff like that... but something is just really not right with this dude.
I'm just glad this isn't our problem. What a nightmare.
RE: RE: I love how he said “Aaron Rogers doesn’t have to do this” Â
And then they sent him a pic of Rodgers wearing the helmet.
Why does everyone assume mental illness here? Maybe AB is just a horrible human being.
Seriously. The mentally ill are more likely to lash out at themselves, not at others.
Erroneous notion. One of the biggest signs of BPD is treating people horribly without realizing it. This seems the case, coupling with being a rich athlete who's clearly been famous for too long. I wouldn't be surprised the NFL give in to this, and he finds some other reason to be upset.

It's not wholly erroneous. That may be true of BPD but not bipolar.
And in either case, most mentally ill people are more a threat to themselves than they are to others.

It's semi erroneous. Even horrible people don't act like this. What he's doing is beyond irrational. If anything, illogical. The guys about to throw away millions of dollars.
could be money which is erroneous. (LOL who uses the word erroneous?)
He may be crazy. He may be mentally ill. You don't know that though. The fact you think you can diagnose someone over the internet based on tabloid reporting says that you aren't as clever as you think.
I'm sorry if it seems like I'm trying to diagnose someone via the internet. My apologies. I understand how offensive that can be. I was merely trying to make sense of AB's actions, which are borderline asinine.
There's no question he's an odd duck. I just don't see how throwing out diagnoses is at all accurate or useful. Maybe the guy is just weird about his helmet?
AB says the new helmets interfere with his vision and his ability to catch the ball. He's a receiver - catching the ball is what he's paid to do.
It seems perfectly logical to me why he's want to keep his old helmet.
You're right - threatening to retire over a fucking helmet when he's the only WR in the league with this issue is totally rational and logical.
There's always someone...
He’s one of 32 players with this issue. How many other WRs, I don’t know, but chances are he’s better than all of those wide receivers.
Let’s imagine a world where AB can earn another $5 in performance bonuses. If he thinks the new helmets will affect his performance, why not fight like hell to continue earring the old helmet.
He is the only one with this issue. Which suggests the helmet design is fine.
Right. Because all other wide receivers in this league have been as productive as AB ::eye roll::
Because he sees better than all of them?
Maybe his vision is great, I don't know. But he's been the most productive receiver in the league since he was drafted, so maybe it has something to do with it.

So how are we defending the part where they've offered to let him try different models and he basically just told them to fuck off and that he wasn't interested?
His behavior has been inexcusable. Threatening to retire over a helmet is pathetic and he's been acting like a lunatic for the better part of 2-3 years now. This is just one of many things he's said or done that have been extremely distracting and I really just can't muster up a single ounce of rationalization or sympathy for him at this point - I'm sorry. I can't.
Gotta be a real big job asshole to make Ben look like a Â

You clearly don't know someone who is bi-polar.
Well I do. My ex wife was high functioning. She Has made well over 6 figures her whole life. My older son has a lot similar same issues. The trend in using it as an excuse is needs to slow down.
It’s not an excuse for bad behavior. You can be bi-polar and an asshole. He’s also most likely also more than a bit of a sociopath. The world revolves around me fueled by money and fame. Leading to his ego centric/Koreans more bizarre behavior. I also was a rep for Risperdol years ago. I suggest I know a lot more than most laymen.
And they’re are a lot of people who do need help. Meds and counseling. But Just like not every diabetic needs meds. A better diet a
Can help a Type 2. Less coke and alcohol would most likely do wonders for AB.
being the center of attention and getting what he wants. Not going to diagnose him with any disorder, I don’t know and neither do any of you.
I also don’t believe he threatened to retire. He probably said “fine, if I can’t wear my helmet I’ll just retire”. Just like any of us making a bold statement we don’t mean (everyone has been there).
Not making excuses for him, but it sounds like something that’s being blown out of proportion, which isn’t shocking. He’s no doubt an asshole, but I’ll leave it at that - let’s see how it plays out.

It's going to be a long year for them, methinks.

especially playing out so publicly.
He filed a grievance with the NFL over it and hasn't been at camp. Those would be some lengths to go through for ratings...
Obviously, you're qualified to make such statements.

His helmet won't pass inspection because it's older than 10 years. He just needs a new one according to them.
