Fans are already lining up at the gates and sitting by the 🍎 ... First pitch is over four hours away away. The #Mets faithful are somethin else.
(I have a connection with the organization.) I'm a true Yankees fan but I hope you guys don't mind my posting while I'm rooting with you. This has been fun so I may keep the Mets as my second team even though for years I've hated on people who root for both.
Anyway, assuming it's ok for me to be here, how do you guys feel about Rosario batting second? Would you prefer a lineup that started McNeill/Alonso/Conforto? Just curious to how you guys see it.
Personally, I like Rosario in the first or second hole. I feel hes protected better and Id clearly hitting better. McNeil is great for the lead off position because he gets on base so much but Id almost rather have him hit second or third because he can drive in a lot more runs. If Nimmo returns healthy, hed be the perfect lead off guy because of his OBP.

Welcome!
I err to the SABR side where your best hitter bats 2nd, etc. but Rosario has been so hot over the second half it really doesnt matter right now. As long as Rosario stays hot, he can stay in the 2 hole. It lengthens our lineup. I do think we Nimmo is back Rosario probably moves back down again, but we'll see!
We've been hoping that developed so we could get some athleticism at the top of the order and lately his walk/k rates have been everything you could want. If those stay pretty steady he could stick in the 2 spot long term even if he cools off and not as many hits fall. He's obviously in a peak right now making a ton of hard contact and there will be some valleys too - so need to see what the floor looks like.
RE: Welcome Mike! The more the merrier. Happy to have you here.

If Nimmo comes back I would almost prefer McNeil hitting 6th because he is a disciplined hitter and whoever bats before Frazier and Ramos arent going to get pitches to hit.
Imagine a lineup as folllows:
Nimmo
Rosario
Alonso
Conforto
Davis
McNeil
Frazier
Ramos
If you play Smith over Davis your 3-4-5 could be Conforto-Alonso-Smith
I like Conforto #3 seeing better pitches w Alonso #4 behind him
when Nimmo comes back I'd probably ease him into the back half of the lineup (5/6/7) until he gets into a groove. If he does then you can potentially swap him up to 1 or 2. Or just ride whoever the hot hands are 1&2 between Mcneil/Nimmo/Rosario so there are guys getting on ahead of Conforto/Alonso.
a tear but he was also slumping for quite some time before he got hurt. Im still not quite sure what he is. Also, hes a man without a position.
I like Conforto - Alonso - Smith as the 3 4 5 hitters. I think Conforto gains the most from the protection and Davis is holding his own up and down the lineup. Ramos and Frazier arent great hitters but they arent awful. And they have some power. But Frazier will be gone after this year anyway. The bottom third of the lineup is a black hole that needs to be addressed. I prefer McNeil in the infield anyway.
I doubt arc switches back lol. And don't worry, I know this is your guys' team and I'm more of a bystander.
Btw, on the Yankees threads we have a few "fans" who just love to shit on our players, especially Sanchez and Stanton. Do you guys have that or is that just an obnoxious Yankees fan thing?
I also think Smith has completely lost his job in 2019
LF is Davis's to lose. No way you can sit him with the offense he's provided. That said, we still need Smith back. Having a lefty bat with pop off the bench would be huge right now.
Next year... After Smith spends an offseason learning CO better, I think we will have a very interesting ST with Davis, Cespedes, and Dom essentially all fighting for one spot with the losers becoming the backup CO.
I doubt arc switches back lol. And don't worry, I know this is your guys' team and I'm more of a bystander.

Ramos gets a little of that. Vargas did, but he's gone. Rosario did, but he took care of it by raising his play. Then there's Diaz and Familia.
Not sure I'd want the best hitter on the team hitting 6th though. I'd probably go:
1.) Nimmo CF
2.) McNeil 2B
3.) Alonso 1B
4.) Conforto RF
5.) Davis LF
6.) Rosario SS
7.) Ramos C
8.) Frazier 3B
Or keep Rosario in the 2 hole and push everyone down a spot.
How does your lineup change next year without Frazier?
Frazier is a FA so he won't be back. Cano will return though so that will move McNeil to 3B. Also, broken ankle for Cespedes or not, he should be back by ST in some compacity. So my lineup would be:
1.) Nimmo CF
2.) McNeil 3B
3.) Alonso 1B
4.) Conforto RF
5.) Davis/Cespedes/Smith LF
6.) Cano 2B
7.) Ramos C
8.) Rosario SS
Or again slot Rosario 2nd and move everyone down a spot. Thats a very deep lineup and when you factor 2 of Cespedes/Smith/Davis are going to be on the bench PLUS Lowrie... We really dont have to do anything heading into next year there.
Ramos has done a great job with men on so im good w/ him 6th or lower
his D sucks but he can hit and his track record with RISP has enough evidence that it doesn't seem like coincidence. Frazier is a threat and the 8th spot doesn't really matter, to me whoever hits there is more a function of the defense being deployed. I'm a fan of not having to play Conforto in CF so my ideal lineup right now would be:
McNeil (2B)
Rosario
Conforto
Alonso
Davis (LF)
Ramos
Frazier
Lagares (CF)
When Nimmo gets back you put him in CF and hit him 6th or 7th until he pushes himself up. When Dom comes back he can mix in whenever Davis/Alonso need days off. I really hope Panik catches lightning in a bottle but I'm skeptical he'll do enough to justify playing over Lagares.
Not sure I'd want the best hitter on the team hitting 6th though. I'd probably go:
1.) Nimmo CF
2.) McNeil 2B
3.) Alonso 1B
4.) Conforto RF
5.) Davis LF
6.) Rosario SS
7.) Ramos C
8.) Frazier 3B

That is a stacked lineup. Guess just need BP this offseason.
Mcneil has been good everywhere he has played defensively
he's moved around so much (including game to game) the numbers aren't all that meaningful. In a very Zobrist-esque way he has just been a solid defender everywhere. He might be the best defensive player on the team regardless of where he plays any given night. So to me, why not put him at the position with the most defensive value and where he's the biggest offensive upgrade? We have a bunch of plus hitting COF'ers - we don't have a bunch of plus 2B.
Definitely a "baseball thing". Every year there are Mets targets that get more hate than they should and it's usually some of our best players. People love to hate on Syndergaard when he's going through any sort of struggle... Wheeler too.. Ive seen Mets fans get on Conforto for being "un-clutch". Nimmo still gets called a "4th OF" in spite of his amazing 2018 season. Obviously, Cano gets a ton of hate this year, although its clearly due to his underperformance.

Yeah my offseason would literally be to re-sign Wheeler

For this year it would be a shock if Cano gets back and has time to get himself into game shape. His injury may already be a blessing and the second Nimmo is healthy, Cano in the lineup would have meant JD Davis on the bench.
Next year I'm sure they'll give Cano another shot at 2nd and Mcneil will probably go to 3rd but that doesn't matter right now.

Yup. I thought we were talking about next year? In any event, agreed.
I actually see Cano coming back this year but as a dangerous bat off the bench. Playoffs are still almost 2 month away. Let's say, he's 90% ready... Wouldn't you want that swing on the bench late in the game? And with off days and a shorter rotation your bench is longer so you can keep a guy like that on it. Just a guess.
He's a hybrid of Zobrist/Pedroia. Which is pretty freaking spectacular. As good as all of the young hitters have been, he'd probably still be the 1 I'd choose first if I had to pick 1 since he plays the harder positions to fill.

has he had a monster game if not stretch of games yet? Multi HR, 3-4-5 hits, big RBI numbers? Not complaining just saying there's still a higher ceiling that's likely on it's way in spite of so much success already
I know we are facing a lefty tonight but I hate the lineup change.
Just keep Conforto in front of Alonso. Conforto can hold his own against lefties. I just dont get it. This is where living by advanced stats ruins the game for me.

Okay, tied it up. LFGM!!!
I thought the exact same thing when I read the Noah HR stat
This is awesome, Nats are a big obstacle, but these next series what, Cle, Atl, Chi...if they can stay above 500 in that stretch it will be huge. Then again there's a ton of tough ones even after those 3 so it's a long way to go
Thats what the 15&16 teams had. Chemistry is a funny thing and this team started developing some good mojo against the bad teams and then seems to have taken it to a different level since Cano was forcibly removed from the middle of the order. Once the spotlight got off the aging, underachieving, overpaid and under hustling vets the #lfgm crew took over.
Has now officially surpassed Wilmers career high season in WAR.
I can finally stop this and move on ;)
Davis has a very chance to become the defining move of the offseason if hes not already. The other big aspects of the offseason (losing kelenic and taking on cano $) are both currently less important by a healthy margin. Team control of Davis until 2025 presents a monetary value that dwarfs Canos contract and only a best case development path would project Kelenic to hit better (and stick in CF) than Davis has been (and as with all prospects still in A ball theres risk).
Whichever scouts liked the way the ball sounded off his bat in ST 2018 need a raise.
Not sure if this was mentioned about the game the other night
The Braves Bullpen shit the bed again last night and pissed away a 6-2 lead late in the game. The frustration boiled over and somebody blew up the fire extinguisher in the dugout....
"Gabriel Burns of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution added that an unidentified Braves player was the culprit and that the hats and jerseys of players, coaches, reporters, and team employees were all covered in powder."
Panik gets on base more and is the more disciplined hitter. I still would like Guillorme getting some consistent AB giving Panik and Frazier breathers as needed. He needs more consistent AB versus languishing on the bench. If we wanted a final utility bat to sit on the bench we could have gone with Haggerty or Alcantara
Guillorme has never gotten 2 weeks of starts and it won't happen now
it is what it is, if he keeps getting hits maybe that changes. As DMM said a few days ago it's just insane they didn't give him a few months at the end of last year instead of trotting Reyes' corpse out there. I love the type of hitter Panik is and it fits well in the 8 hole, but i'd have a reasonably tight leash with him bc Guillorme also has good contact skills that seem suited to that spot.
