NFT: Anyone know someone who has had a liver transplant?

nyjuggernaut2 : 8/10/2019 9:55 pm
My uncle has been battling Hepatitis A since early July, and doctors informed him and my aunt that he is going to need a liver transplant because he now has acute liver failure. The operation is tomorrow morning, and wondering what his quality of life will now be after all is said and done. He’s only 56, so our family is hoping for the best.
Well

He was originally diagnosed with A. Apparently there was an outbreak of it at a golf club he is a member of. However, a couple weeks ago blood work indicated he may also have B. Then he was transferred to Mt Sinai, and when they did bloodwork there only A was coming back in the results.

Weird thing is all others that were hit with A from his club are on the mends but him, he’s been hit the hardest with the virus.
A extremely rarely leads to liver failure

But chronic b/ c with A superimposed might
Underlying liver disease for other reasons like cirrhosis might too
I think liver transplants are very

successful as a whole. May need to curtail some foods and alcohol consumption.
Very strange

Hep A is like the flu...I had it when I came back from Australia. You are horribly sick for a week..but thats it...May be more to this story then you know.
Wow your uncle is lucky to find a donor so quickly...

especially considering he’s only been sick since July. Didn’t it take Steve Jobs months to find a donor?
