What stood out was his command in the huddle and pocket presence. While some have pointed out the OL giving him a clean pocket, for the most part, I would like to point out that he never had such a compliment in college. Given the talent assembled at the skill positions DJ has the physical tools and athleticism to be a top 10 even top 5 quarterback. Many of the detractors like Chris Carter have tried to place a negative saying that the drive was against the 2nd team D. What needs to be recognized was the ball placement and timing on each of his throws.
Sadly for every positive, there is a corresponding negative. Eli has given the Giants franchise everything they could have ever wanted, being a great Giant. Now he must elevate his consistency and production or give way to DJ. I am sure he realizes that DJ produced with the same O while he went 3 and out. Gone will be the tolerance for conservative decision making, Eli needs to anticipate the deeper routes developing before bailing to his check down option.
In my view DJ would have had the same result against the Jets starting D. I think Eli realized that because he skipped post-game interviews. Hopefully, Eli will rise to the challenge making the most of this season. If not the leash will be rather short with his era coming to an end and the future ascending. The next 3 games will be of great importance because if Eli is not careful, DJ could win the starting QB job outright.
Therefore, he is unworthy of the 6th overall pick.

Pt being made was, this unwillingness to allow plays to develop down field has even a reoccurring theme with Eli for a while now.
Hernandez talked about it
Just heard a stat I didn’t know existed EPA,( expected points added. )
When Eli was hit 6 times last year his EPA was negative. For other older quarterbacks like Brady and Brees it was positive. It was positive for most young quarterbacks as well.
During the podcast the point was being made that Eli has lost the patience to allow plays downfield to develop due to the pounding he has taken over past several years

Performance in preseason for several years now has been lackluster. If DJ continues to light it up and Eli doesn’t play well, the leash will be very short. I still think he starts week 1 barring injury, but a slow start and I think DJ takes the reins and doesn’t look back

It's definitely concerning. In my view he still has the physical tools and mind to be great. But he has been pounded behind shit OL for so many years that his internal clock is shot. If he can't overcome that, DJ will have to be folded in sooner rather than later.
