I think Corey will announce two per day over the next few weeks/to month (I think one a day), so while it is behind the Athletic paywall (which as a side note broke my lifelong rule of never paying for content on the Internet and it's some of the best money I have ever spent) I feel like we can discuss it if people want as he reveals his list.
This should bring us into the pre-season.
I have posted some other rankings (Sportingnews - which was free).
But Pronman will go into much more depth about the systems. I will not on this thread except for the teams people have interest on here and I'll just be mostly parroting Pronman or others (Wheeler, etc.). I haven't seen many of these guys play ever.
So far:
31. Calgary Flames
30. Capitals
Hard to argue with either - the Caps won a cup a year ago and the past few years I've had the Flames as one of my breakout teams. A lot of good youth at the NHL level, just haven't found consistency in the net or the ice.
Criteria:
There is no good way to define a prospect, whether objectively or subjectively, someone is going to get left out by the process, it’s just the way it goes.
With that said, the eligibility for being a prospect for these rankings is:
A skater no longer qualifies as an NHL prospect if he has played 25 games in the NHL in any campaign, regular season and playoffs combined, or 50 games total; or reaches age 27 by Sept. 15.
A goalie no longer qualifies as an NHL prospect if he has played 10 games in the NHL in any campaign, regular season and playoffs combined, or 25 games total; or reaches age 27 by Sept. 15. |

I've seen a bunch of Badger hype videos. I wouldn't be shocked if they're #1 or close to it when the polls come out.
I don't see how he survives.

The NHL has formally notified the NHLPA that it will not re-open the CBA. Deadline to do so was this weekend. The player window to re-open runs through Sept. 15.
I misunderstood this, this is not a bad sign. Not necessarily a monumental move, but it's more good than bad.
I hope you see a lot of this (for one year)

I suppose you mean cause next year he'll be with the Habs. Probably true.
Frustrating that Dmen don't get mentions unless they are on the scoresheet. I'd like to know how Miller is doing.
Apparently UW will be streaming the games during the season.
Bet this KHL goalie is drowning his sorrows in some stoli (I think the coach even yanked him after this)

Freshman Cole Caufield records first hat trick in Badger uniform as the #Badgers finish off their road trip to Vancouver with a 7-5 win over British Columbia

K'Andre Miller had 4 assists in the game.
Game was streamed on Facebook. I hope future games are as well.

yep, he is.
Dhoogie is fun to watch too. He's tiny - even compared with Caufield. He's just 5' 3", so I think NCAA is it for him, but he can light the lamp.

Gorniak is Hab property as well.
Maybe that

Maybe that's why Caufield chose UW, so he wouldn't be the smallest guy on the team ;)
I thinks LOTS of teams are going to regret not drafting him when they had the opportunity. He is scoring bucketfuls at every level he is playing. Habs will be very pleased, IMO.
I like his stuff. He has a projected 3rd line of Lemieux, Andersson, and Kravstov. I'd pay admission to watch that line play. I think they'll become a fan favorite line, if that happens.
He's not a huge fan of Chytil or Andersson, but i think he's wrong.
If you are a Rangers fan this review with a summary from Carpinello is probably worth the annual Athletic fee.
The Rangers were one of the league’s worst five-on-five teams last year, earning an expected goal percentage under 47 percent, and that trio of rookies was part of the problem. Of the Rangers’ 14 forwards who earned 250 or more five-on-five minutes, the rookies ranked 10th (Chytil), 12th (Howden) and 13th (Andersson) in expected goals percentage. The latter two especially struggled at 41 percent each, and all three were heavily outscored as a result.
For Chytil and Andersson, the issue was on offense, where the Rangers couldn’t buy a goal from them or their linemates. Both players had a five-on-five points-per-60 rate under 1, which would be considered under replacement level last season. Howden was a more effective scorer at 1.63 points per 60, a second-line rate, but he comes with the trouble of being one of the league’s worst defensive players. His 3.25 expected goals-against per 60 was the worst in the league last season....

NJD jumped from #20 to #3 - with only Hughes as the main addition - that's how special some people think he will be.
We'll see, but the Devils definitely made themselves relevant again, with the off-season they had.

Per impeccable source, Pierre McGuire has been removed from NBC Sports' No. 1 hockey team, to be replaced by Brian Boucher.
lol, not just verbeek, Jagr, and others. He might be top 5 most hated men in hockey.
Imperfect, but not terrible predictor of future success? Most teams in the top/bottom third seem to be directionally correct just eyeballing it.

makes sense. It's when you have a bad NHL team and a bad farm that you need to consider a change - front office, coach, something.
BUF - bottom 3rd farm, and missed playoffs consistently
ARI - see BUFF
in theory, when you are a contender your farm should be worse ranked because you are more apt to trade draft picks and young players/prospects for players who can help you immediately.
Devils had a great off-season, but they're toast if Hall leaves.
I am actually looking forward to watching Hughes compete vs NHL players. One of the most interesting story lines for me for the upcoming season. he looked tiny at the draft lottery dwarfed by Kathryn Tappen. Didn't exactly instill fear in defenders.
But Cole Caufield is tiny next to Hughes and he doesn't concern me as much for some reason.
consider the source, but it is being shared on twitter by real sources so who knows.

He loves Ty Smith as well
Makes sense.
He also didn't seem as high om Fox as others like Wheeler are.
Felt PP QB and good offensive D, but might be protected by coaches early on.
Still almost everyone in the top 20 is a "solid prospect" so it indicates the farm is not just top heavy, but also deep.
At least in his opinion

I agree that the Rangers farm system to very deep. In the past, guys like Barron (#21 per Pronman), Lindgren(#23), Rykov (#18)and Henriksson (#14) would all be considered the some of the Rangers top prospects as I think all will play in the NHL. It's truly amazing what Gorton has done.
Good deal, solid, but unspectacular D.
Canes building a powerhouse on D.
maybe they try and trade for an RFA - one of their D like Dougie Hamilton maybe.
I haven't watched much of these guys, so I love to see them hyped the fuck up.
goalies seems so hard to predict IMO too.
I don't know if KHL stats translate to NHL.
and speaking of goalies I haven't heard anyone as bullish on a goalie as they (the consensus) are about Yaro Askarov - he's already being hailed the next Roy.
But I watch Spencer Knight and I see a much more calm and positionally sound goalie. he looks like a young Carey Price to me - "a true if he sees it he'll save it - but even if he doesn't see it there's a good chance he'll be in position to save it" - goalie.
but I'm no expert. especially on goalies.

2019 2nd-round pick Karl Henriksson deflects an Adam Fox point shot to tie the game 1-1. Kravtsov with the secondary assist.
He is a good dude and a Giants fan. I hope the Bruins can't re-sign him.
depends if he makes the team out of camp or not. If he makes it, he's probably the 3rd line center.
If he keeps up his pace (4 goals per game), he'll be great, seriously, I wouldn't hold a spot for him (depending on who your other options are) - though I love his game. I don't how good he'll be in fantasy
I always opt for centers in fantasy hockey if position doesn't matter, but I love Werenski - at D.

14 keepers. I have 3 goalies (Bishop, Vasilevskiy, Hellebuyck). On offense I have Draisaitl, Rantanen, Pettersson, DeBrincat, Subban, Barzal, Klingberg, Dylan Strome, Meier, and Couturier. The question is my final keeper.

I'd probably keep Werenski.
Karlsson only had 12 more points than Werenski.
I think both are probably better bets for more points (next year at least) than Poehling.
