I think Corey will announce two per day over the next few weeks/to month (I think one a day), so while it is behind the Athletic paywall (which as a side note broke my lifelong rule of never paying for content on the Internet and it's some of the best money I have ever spent) I feel like we can discuss it if people want as he reveals his list.
This should bring us into the pre-season.
I have posted some other rankings (Sportingnews - which was free).
But Pronman will go into much more depth about the systems. I will not on this thread except for the teams people have interest on here and I'll just be mostly parroting Pronman or others (Wheeler, etc.). I haven't seen many of these guys play ever.
So far:
31. Calgary Flames
30. Capitals
Hard to argue with either - the Caps won a cup a year ago and the past few years I've had the Flames as one of my breakout teams. A lot of good youth at the NHL level, just haven't found consistency in the net or the ice.
Criteria:
There is no good way to define a prospect, whether objectively or subjectively, someone is going to get left out by the process, its just the way it goes.
With that said, the eligibility for being a prospect for these rankings is:
A skater no longer qualifies as an NHL prospect if he has played 25 games in the NHL in any campaign, regular season and playoffs combined, or 50 games total; or reaches age 27 by Sept. 15.
A goalie no longer qualifies as an NHL prospect if he has played 10 games in the NHL in any campaign, regular season and playoffs combined, or 25 games total; or reaches age 27 by Sept. 15. |

He is a good dude and a Giants fan. I hope the Bruins can't re-sign him.
That's awesome!

and it pains me a little bit, but we went to a Bruins Foundation charity event for austism today and Charlie McAvoy signed my daughters jersey (a #73 McAvoy jersey). She couldn't stop smiling (she is #73 on her team because McAvoy is her favorite player).

She was practically in tears, and it wasn't just McAvoy. Matt Grzelcyk and Torrey Krug were great, hanging out, talking to the kids about hockey, taking pictures, signing things, even allowed me to put say my sports hate for a while and just appreciate how some athletes are selfless (this was for charity) and it was a saturday night in the middle of EEE infested Massachusetts.
anyway, I'm back to hating the Bruins.
Rangers, et al, rookie note:

Last day of group play in Traverse City before tomorrows finals. Full schedule:
2pm: Stars (1-1) vs. Blue Jackets (2-0)
2:30pm: Wild (0-2) vs. Rangers (1-1)
5:30pm: Blues (0-2) vs. Blackhawks (1-1)
6pm: Leafs (2-0) vs. Red Wings (1-1)
I think Pronman was wrong about Ottawa's system and that showed this weekend but Montreal does have a really nice system. They were impressive I thought.
Logan Brown was a beast. I didn't realize how big he was until watching these games.
I was fine with the habs performance, in these showcases I'm looking more at individual results. I felt like Poehling and Suzuki were exactly what I expected. Leskinen was a surprise, looked like he could compete for an NHL role this year. And Harvey-Pinard surprised me.
I thought Josh Brook was pretty bad, so many turnovers.
Is the Q on TV up there? That's the last thing I need LOL, more hockey watching opportunities, but I'd love it.

Ovechkin took practice twirl and looks like hes actually going to resume scrimmage
In that interview he said he's 240 pounds. No way that's true. is it? I know he's a tank, but 240 is byfuglien size.

Bad deal for Werenski. He definitely could've gotten more. Look at what his fellow RFAs are getting.

Werenski is one of my favorites, but as an RFA anything else was a pipe dream:

He asked for the bridge deal, which signifies to me maybe h doesn't want to be in Columbus long term.
Worst case he's a UFA at 25.

Unsurprisingly, but he should still have gotten more than 5M AAV

Something to keep an eye on: there have been ongoing conversations between CAR and ANA about a Justin Faulk trade, but there are still details to be worked out (1/2)...

Faulk has a partial NTC which lists the Ducks and it is believed ANA wishes to pursue an extension. No one will comment on the likelihood of it occurring, but it has been intensely discussed

Kakko with a great play to set up the game tying goal w net empty. Good player.

Standouts in Wilds vs. Rangers in Traverse City:
NYR: Kravtsov (best player on the ice), Kakko (for his highlight reel OT goal mostly)
MIN: Beckman (despite having to serve a teammates 5-min penalty)
Rangers finish group round 2-1. Wild go 0-3.
Still a great individual effort, but in a meaningful game that's a whistle IMO.
LOL
he may change his number. A lot of young players get stuck with high numbers early on and then move up as players leave (if they have another number).

Rangers sitting their top guys today for the 5th place game.
That's generational talent Boo Nieves' number
My only hope now is Charlie McAvoy doesn't change from #73 (I'm hopeful it's a reverse Bergeron tribute) because my daughter grew out of her hockey jerseys (like every year) and decided she wanted to be #73, so I bought jerseys big enough they fit for 2 years (I hope). I have had to buy new jerseys every year the past three years ($400 a set).
Every year the Bauer guy at the uniform fitting says "oh yeah, she'll get two years out of these" (and he laughs his ass off when I walk away)
He's wearing 45 now but I bet he's 24 come the regular season.

And I say WTF as a skates before pants guy. shirt before pants seems like something a little kid would do.
Good transaction, good coach, I hate him.
Still a great individual effort, but in a meaningful game that's a whistle IMO.
Agreed, but when have you seen picks like that called?

He's the #2 overall pick, the highest the Rangers have ever had, and their best prospect since Brian Leetch 30+ years ago.

Used to be rarely, now they get called all the time.
And he is going to get a lot of shit from his teammates about that mustache. I read they're going to name him captain.
Mock turtle and a herringbone chain and he's every drug dealer from late 80s after school specials. (zubaz pants optional)

TOR has made seven and eight year offers in the $11M AAV universe but because its a lower AAV and longer term than Auston Matthews, it hasnt been palatable to Marner.

no one really can unless he wants to get shipped out to Ottawa or maybe he gets traded for Laine or something like that.
