Daniel Jones lack of arm strength

Grey Pilgrim : 8/12/2019 9:15 am
Obviously it a very small sample size, but DJones didn't seem to have alot of arm strength Thurs night.

Anyone know if this was a problem in college?

TIA
the goal is to complete the pass

not throw it as fast as you can.

Which pass in particular are you talking about?

He didn't seem to have a lot of arm strength?

Not sure what you were watching, but I think most people saw the exact opposite. There was absolutely nothing lacking in that department on any of the passes he threw vs. the Jets.

Weird thread.
5 passes and you determined that huh?

Phil Simms on Daniel Jones

“Time will tell. I think it’s pretty evident that Daniel Jones really knows how to play the position. A much better athlete than we all thought. He is very accurate with the football. So that’s a lot to build on. I know he’s pretty smart, too.”

“There was a question, ‘Does he have elite arm strength?’ No, he does not,” Simms said. “But, when he needs to, he can definitely turn up the velocity to make some really good throws, which all quarterbacks need in this league to really be great.”

I thought the complete opposite. The ball came out quickly and with some zip. Looking forward to seeing him throw the deep ball, but I thought Thursday night should put an end to all of the "lack of arm strength" talk.

As I saw when I went to camp he hit Alonzo Ruseelll
Essex : 8/12/2019 9:44 am : link
In a tight window to the outside, 25 yards down the field—I can’t see how arm strength will ever be the issue with him. The remaining issue we have yet to see is how he processes an NFL field and pressure. Judging by Thursday night, I am really encouraged but obviously we will have to see more and under more adverse circumstances. And, of course, there will be bumps on the way. I am very optimistic, though, we have identified our next franchise QB.
Jones was fine Thursday...

I agree with Phil.

You do realize that there is an enormous gap between “lack of arm strength” which was what your OP said, and “elite” arm strength which Phil was talking about, correct?

I wouldn't say Eli has "elite" arm strength, he's a notch below the Favres. It's like "elite" arm strength pitcherz throwing in the 100 mph rang and Eli is someone who throws in the 95 mph range.

Not a throwing contest
mavric : 8/12/2019 10:51 am : link
anymore than a golfer who has the furthest drive is the best golfer in the world.

It's about touch, timing, and accuracy. It does no good to be able to throw a football through a brick wall if no one can catch it or if it is out of reach of the intended target.

Besides "touch, timing, and accuracy" (the critical athletic requirements), it's even more about the mental aspect of the QB who has to read changes defenses in a nano second, understand every defensive pattern in order to change plays on the fly, and gain the respect of every player on the team who then sees the QB as his bonafide leader. Jones has that in spades.
Eli is more like a few notches below Favre
NJBlueTuna : 8/12/2019 10:52 am : link
It’s comical how people glorify the comparison arms and/or denigrate Jones’ arm. 3 years from now, IF jones is moderately successful, people will be saying what a great arm he has lol

The man is 6’5”...he doesn’t have a noodle arm. He just doesn’t have an elite rocket.

Excellent placement too. Latimer telegraphed the route with his loopy "cut". Let's just say he's not Wes Welker.

his arm strength is at least as good as Phillip Rivers'
MM_in_NYC : 8/12/2019 2:29 pm : link
if he does not succeed in NFL it will not be because of arm strength
adequate
arniefez : 8/12/2019 2:40 pm : link
he has adequate arm strength for an NFL starting QB. Anyone who says he has anywhere near a plus arm is has never seen a plus arm. John Elway had a plus arm. Brett Favre had a plus arm. Aaron Rogers has a plus arm. Jones showed accuracy in his brief cameo which will be essential since he only has adequate arm strength.
Anyone on this board..

who can make a claim on what arm strength he has is pretty clueless. Especially from a 5 pass drive.
