I hope they're paying Marokovits a little extra for all her injury report work this year... I don't think I can ever recall a reporter having to report on this many key injuries in a given season for any team I've ever followed.
that Gio won't be be eligible for the batting title even if he keeps this up for another month.
I think I read you need 502 PAs and he currently has 342. The Yanks have 43 games left so with an average of less than 4 per game, he would literally have to play almost every day to secure his eligibility. That would be such a bummer to barely miss out on it after having such a phenomenal season.

I thought he'd be able to catch up, but it does not look so promising.
Valera?
I'm not impressed. #1, I don't think he is a smart baseball player. He makes silly mistakes that well seasoned AAA players shouldn't. He has average tools, at best. I can see him being some team's bench infielder, but not with the Yanks. Now Cash sees something and the Yanks have been turning people around. But I just don't see it.

Not a fan. Way too many stupid mistakes and he's not doing anything otherwise to warrant a spot.
Prefer Estrada big time. But, I understand that they'd like Thairo to continue playing regularly - and that there's not really a spot for him to do that here. So, I get why Valera is up here.. but it feels like he does something dumb in nearly every game he starts.
And props to Booney for getting through these games with 7 innings coming from the no name relievers. Two games and we saved the pen. Otto and Green combined for fewer than 20 pitches, so they can go tomorrow. And Britton only threw 11 pitches, so he can probably go tomorrow too.
Chappy will get the day off after two days straight. But overall, good bullpen management for the DH.
Thorne is great.. he's a good sport about it; have to respect that. Loved him as a hockey guy when I was younger.
I feel terrible for the guy... imagine having to watch that O's team all season long.
I'm at the point where I just want to beat them a couple more times and leave them alone until next year. The beatings we're putting on these guys are just brutal. They're so bad.
And here they are... 37 freaking games over .500.
What a wild season to date.
Caught Valera's slightly elevated toss with his bare hand and then completed the throw to 1st.

and most our best bats are out, I like Gardy in the five hole. It's like having a new lead off hitter for after Torres goes deep again.
👀
Well done, grasshopper!
Yankees have owned the Twins to an absurd extent for about 15 years now
The Minnesota Twins say hello
Now we have to use Ottavino... much like the first game, we need to use a key reliever in a blowout. Frustrating but whatever.

Nice sweep.

This is what I see. Estrada will be a MLB starter and it is better for him to play every day.
Maybe Valera had bad coaching, or maybe he is simply not a student of the game. But he does make head scratching mistakes.

Nice to sweep them, but given how horrid they are, still concerning that we would give up 13 runs to them on the day ...

Pathetic. Nice wins today, as we just outhit them again. German tomorrow.

Meh. Cessa, Mantiply, Cortes, and Lail gave up all the runs other than Paxton's 3. I wouldn't put too much stock in the O's offense.

Their pitching and fielding sucks. Their batting is pretty decent, aside from the black hole of Kris Davis.
Here it is, Gary's reaction. He's basically begging the orioles to IBB him the rest of the year, haha.

Beautiful....Thorne is a prognosticator with the IBB. Jim Palmer just shaking his head in disbelief. Paulie showing up in the booth was a classic.
Funny part is how cold Torres was coming into the games, which was probably the muscle pull, but crazy how he just kills the Orioles.

Probably a nice guy... but I can't get past the name and the face. He looks like a guy you'd find in a dive bar passed out in a stall.
As a general rule I don't trust men named Trey.

He has 29 HRs - not too shabby for any player on any team.
1 - Gehrig (14)
2 - Gleyber Torres (13)
3 - Roger Maris (13)
