NFT: Whats one movie you walked out of the theater on?

LawrenceTaylor56 : 8/12/2019 12:26 pm
Continuing with the recent movie thread.

I'll start. Peter Jacksons King Kong. About 1 hour into the movie someone blurted out "Where the fuck is the monkey?"

I left at hour #3. If you can't finish a movie in under 3 hours, I'm gone. Plus that movie sucked.

The critics gave it great reviews, but 20 minutes into it, it was obvious that the critics had to be a bunch of 6-yr olds.

I love this movie, but it doesn't surprise me that some hate it.

Same, I don’t really see the point. The thought of someone hating a movie so much that they would get upset and leave is funny to me.

the thought of someone sitting through two or more hours of shitty entertainment just because they paid for it is funny to me.

I haven't been to a movie since in over 10 years or more, but if a movie is bad enough, there is no getting upset - not sure if people say they are upset, especially (and only) if others agree with me, I have no issue walking out and doing something more worthwhile with my valuable time.
Didn't walk out...

Great movie, but Christ, that scene was brutal.

unless you are going into a movie completely blind then I don’t know how it’s possible.

Little Nicky is something I’d probably walk out on but only if someone tricked me into going in the first place. It isn’t something I’d ever pay for.

Awful movies are completely avoidable.

He made a ton of horrible crappy movies after BM, HG, and Waterboy, the high water mark of western cinema.

I've never walked out, but was tempted to by the rave scene in Matrix 2, the stoopidest scene in film history. I began rooting for the robots.
I don't go to the movies often anymore
Greg from LI : 8/12/2019 2:41 pm : link
So when I go now, I am going specifically to see a specific movie. When I was young, however, and smart phones didn't exist, there were plenty of times when a group of us would be sitting around and someone would say, "hey, let's go to a movie" and we'd get in the car and go to the theater and see what was playing. Might not heard of one, but the poster and the description sounded cool so we'll give it a shot. That's how I ended up seeing Suspect Zero, which was awful.

YES! Finally someone who agrees with me about the Matrix series.

The special effects were cool in the first one (less so when they were repeated in the sequels, only more exaggerated) but the plot of those movies was always ludicrous.
Like Idiocracy though...

I don't think everyone is as selective as you I guess. How many replies to this thread? Over 60 people in a couple hours listed movies they walked out of. I did not actually walk out per se, but I saw a shitty movie and I posted the reasons.

Also, during high school I worked as an usher at a movie theater and it was a long time ago with less access to information before going, but people walked out - and got a refund if they did so in the first 30 min.

it probably still happens now.

what a shit show.
there was a lot less info 20+ years ago
Greg from LI : 8/12/2019 2:57 pm : link
You had your local paper's review section, a handful of national critics, and that was it. No way to readily access those reviews either. That's how I ended up asking my parents to take me to Howard the Duck many moons ago - it looked funny in the commercials and we had little to tell us otherwise.

We didn't walk out of that one, but a bunch of people did.
Yeah I get it

I’m just saying that if you want to be selective it takes very little effort.
My grandmother
Pete in MD : 8/12/2019 3:03 pm : link
used to take us to the movies when we were kids. She made us walk out of Biloxi Blues during the prostitute scene and took me to the lobby for the end of Back to the Future because she thought my heart was beating too fast. This prompted a subsequent doctor's visit which was unnecessary, the movie just had an exciting ending, especially for a 6 year old.

I never made the decision on my own.

Oh Greg... all you had to do is look at the trailer... I wouldn't have gone anywhere near that. They probably use that movie for torture in some countries.

I was living up in PA at the time and it was amidst a heat wave. No AC in the house except for individual bedrooms. Went to the movies to cool off for the afternoon and enjoy a laugh. About a half hour in, I opted to take my chances in a heat wave than endure another minute of that trash.

Okay, but how old were you and your siblings? That's an adult movie. A slow movie - true - but a terrific story.

WTH, Fury Road will be revered and remembered for a long time. IMO as perfect a film as can be made, no fat in that movie at all. Alot of those stunts were friggen real.
