Dak has reportedly turned down a 30 million a year. At this point I'd say adios and it is scary I am seeing a future where Eli Manning starts for the Cowboys in 2020. It just makes too much sense, they have the perfect offense for him, they have a superbowl window next year and possibly the year after, and they could commit year to year. That is what I would do if I were running the Cowboys.
Or since they Cowpukes may suck this year, perhaps they won't have to trade up.
Or since they Cowpukes may suck this year, perhaps they won't have to trade up.
Their window is now and they are probably drafting in the 20's. Drafting a QB makes no sense for them.
They could and than Dak could threaten to hold out which would be a total clusterfuck for a team with Superbowl aspirations.
Who's trading anything major for the rights to pay Dak Prescott upwards of $35m per year?
Dallas has no choice but to pay him.
Dak would be dumb to sign for less than Wentz. Someone would easily give him $32M on the open market and due to healthy alone he could make a strong case that he's a better bet than Wentz.
And I doubt they look to sign Eli. More likely they take the Cousins' approach with Dak if they can't reach a long term deal.
jk...
Damage his reputation with the Giants and their fans?
The same fans that have been shitting on him at every opportunity? It isn't just a recent phenomena to coincide with our losing. Look no further than the BBI Giant of the Year presentation video when Eli was given the trophy. Some shitty fan had to make their snide remark telling him not to fumble it.
Don't Fumble It - ( New Window )
My Cowboys buddy recently said the same thing about Dak. If they don't sign him at 30 million who will? Outside of the Titans I really don't see anyone. If Eli has a decent season this year with a decent offensive line, you know what he is and he'll only command around 20 million or so a year. I honestly don't think Eli has a market outside of the Cowboys if they don't sign Dak and more than likely this is his last.

It's odd that you mention the Titans as being in the market for Dak, but then you don't consider the Titans being interested in Eli. I think Marcus is done in Tennessee. He is on his 5th year option at $21M. If he somehow stays healthy and plays the Titans into contention for the South and the playoffs, then he'll be looking at being paid in the $30+M/yr range. I think it is more likely that he shows them who he has been and they let him walk. The problem is that they will be picking in the teens and will have to mortgage draft collateral to get a rookie QB. I don't see them hitching their wagon to Tannehill. They have a strong running game and good OL - a situation that Eli thrives in. Eli can settle in to their system at a much cheaper price while they figure out their future.

Who would sign Dak?
- CHI: if Trubisky takes a step back or doesn't take that next step as a starter
- Saints: Brees/Bridgewater are UFAs (the latter sucks) and Hill is an RFA with 7 passing attempts in his career
- MN: more a factor if Cowboys franchise Dak in 2020 and he hits the market in 2021, but Dak > Cousins if only because of the former's much better mobility
- TAM: Winston sucks and the depth chart behind him is awful
- SF: could get out of Garoppolo's contract after this season, unless he becomes the top QB he looked like in the 2nd half of 2017
- BAL: I'm not a believer in Tavares Jackson
- MIA: if/when the Rosen experiment ends
- BUF: if Allen doesn't work out
- CIN: past time to move on from Dalton
- TEN: Mariota's gotta be running out of time
- Jax: don't know the details of Foles' deal, but Dak > Foles
- LAC: Rivers is a UFA and 37
- OAK: probably go the draft route, but Gruden may be sick of Carr
- DEN: Flacco sucks and (way early) Lock looks awful
Some of the above are a bit of a stretch (CHI, SF, Buff giving up on Allen in year 3, etc), but there would definitely be at least 2-3 teams bidding against the Cowboys if Dak hits free agency.

That Eli would go to a division rival. He would rather retire than damage his reputation with the Giants and their fans.

Yeah, not to mention that when players leave a team they have been with for an extended period of time, especially when they are being shown the door, they invariably try to sign with a team in the division so they have more chances to show up the team that moved on from them...
No one in the AFC East.
No one in the AFC North.
Maybe, maybe the Titans in the AFC South?
No one in the AFC West.
No one in the NFC East.
No one in the NFC North.
Maybe, maybe Tampa in the NFC South if Winston has another off year?
No one in the NFC West.
That's two maybes - at best. And I would likely eliminate Tennessee because GM Jon Robinson is from Pats U under Belichick.
So where is the market, Team Dak?
?
- Relocating his family, including new schools for his daughters vs spending ~6 months away from his family if they don't move.
- Playing for another ring.
- "Sticking it" to the Giants
- Post-playing career
- Competitiveness and desire to keep playing and retire on his terms
I can't pretend to know what will be important or the deciding factor for Eli next offseason. He may not know either at this point.
True. But is there really going to be a market for Eli?
I think Stephen Jones is very bright and is likely out of the QB stop-gap game. So I do not see a marriage there...
At best, and I think I'm reaching here, the only market for Eli would be "available QB if a team loses it's really good starter" market. And that team is was in playoff contention.
No one in the AFC East.
No oneCincy (Dak > Dalton) and Baltimore when they realize Jackson can't hit the broadside of a barn in the AFC North.
Maybe, maybe the Titans in the AFC South?
No oneChargers (after Rivers retires), Raiders after they cut Carr in the AFC West.
No one in the NFC East.
No one in the NFC North.
Maybe, maybe Tampa since Winston sucks, NO after Brees retires in the NFC South if Winston has another off year?
No one in the NFC West.

I think Dak's a middling QB and hope the Cowboys re-sign him, but you're woefully overvaluing the other QB talent around the league and underestimating how many teams will overpay for average to above average QB pay: see Cousins (Wash then MN), Foles, Stafford, Ryan, Garoppolo, Carr, Dalton (not bad now), Foles, Flacco, etc.
He may not care about the laundry, but he may not want to move his family and/or live away from them for half the year. And while Peyton had twins when he was traded to DEN, I believe they were only 1. Not quite the same as relocating when you have school age children.
I'm telling you right now, the Saints really like Bridge and Hill. You know the ego Payton has...he thinks he can make chicken salad out of anything.
I get your Carr point, but Gruden likes a vertical game. That is NOT Dak's strength.
San Diego is a decent counter. Don't underestimate Easton Stick! ;)

Neither would Peyton or Archie, I guess. It’s a business. Why would he care about the laundry?

1. Maybe I'm misreading your comments, but you don't seem to think Dak is a very good QB (hence little-to-no market for him
2. You think RBs are fungible and not worth high picks
3. Jones has apparently offered >$30M per season to Dak
4. Jones drafted Zeke #4 overall even with his red flags
Is Jones really that bright and forward thinking? The moneyball (to steal a phrase) play would be to let Dak walk, draft a replacement in the mid-rounds and use the cap savings (and high draft picks) to keep the OL and defense fortified. The 'average' (or better) QB on a rookie deal is literally the biggest advantage a team can have in any capped sport.
Re:Dak / he’s way overplaying his hand. Either they can win with him in 2020 and he gets paid / or they can’t and they franchise and fraft his replacement. Easiest decision tree in the league.

I'm not saying all those teams are interested, just that there's a lot more "maybes" than 2 teams (at most). And all it takes is 1-2 teams to get in a bidding war with Dallas.
Besides, Bridgewater is a UFA and Hill an RFA after this season.
Gruden also likes mobile QBs which Dak offers.
I think 2020 is likely a moot point anyway since I'd wager Dallas tags Dak and could see him playing under it like Cousins though as a mobile QB its definitely riskier. And by 2021 there could be other teams interested (Buff if Allen busts, MIA if Rosen sucks, Jax when they realize Foles is awful, SF if Garoppolo doesn't stay healthy/look like he did in 2017, etc).
To your 4 points...
1. I actually like Dak for Dallas. Seems to be the perfect team for his school set. But I'm trying to analyze the overall market, and I'm not sure the demand would be compelling outside Dallas.
2. Absolutely.
3. Apparently, yes. And I think that's on the high side. However, I would rather over-spend on Dak - to a degree - than over-spend on a RB, even one as brilliant as Zeke.
4. Indeed, I would not have drafted Zeke at #4, despite his great skills. Red flags were compelling and, more importantly for me, is the RB position.
Re:Dak / he’s way overplaying his hand. Either they can win with him in 2020 and he gets paid / or they can’t and they franchise and fraft his replacement. Easiest decision tree in the league.
I think fans would be far more forgiving if Eli played elsewhere (especially if Jones is a legit starting QB). Tiki's problem with fans is that he turned around and threw current (at the time) Giants players under the bus in order to advance his media career. I don't think Eli's ever thrown a teammate/coach (maybe McAdoo?) under the bus. Also, Eli won't be "choosing" to leave if he does move on.

Apples and oranges ... Farve was being diva and a douche ...

I think the Titans are a few years contending for a title. They are better off going younger at QB. I think Eli's options are limited to a team looking to add the final piece at QB. There aren't any teams like that as of now.
Definitely a possibility. Brees has fallen off a cliff at the end of last season. I'm sure he'll look fine to start this season, but he has a lot of mileage on his shoulder. Their offense definitely changed as the season wore on. Eli stepping in would be an easy sell to the fan-base with the family's ties to the area.

Of this list the you can scratch Bal, SF, Chicago, Minn, Buffalo, Jax , Chargers as far as 2020 is concerned. That leaves the Saints, Tampa, Cin, Tenn, and Denver. Why would any of those teams want the privilege of overpaying Dak instead of drafting a QB.
Always remember, football is their profession, this is their job! If one company (team) no longer requires their services, and another company (team) does, and is willing to pay them, then God Bless, congrats on the new job and thanks for the memories. Anyone who would hold a grudge against a player for taking an opportunity to extend their career elsewhere, no matter what the team is, really has no clue what the NFL really is. Which is a business.
Its not happening. Someone will blink first and he will get his longterm deal in Dallas.
