I'll be the first to say any adulation or prognostication is ridiculously premature. But this is for first impressions of the new guys.
The guy I was most impressed with was Julian Love. I thought he was all over the place.
Yeah I get it, what about Jones, ASJ? First, I'm looking at this through the lens of who is going to help us the most this year. I don't expect Jones to play much, if any, this year. However, I do acknowledge that his accuracy was top-notch, and the only take away that you can take from the first preseason game with respect to Jones is a very positive impression.
I also think that Dexter Lawrence distinguished himself as a presence on the defensive line that will pay immediate dividends.
Obviously, Ryan Connelly stood out big time with the Pick 6 and general athleticism which has been sorely needed in the linebacking corps. There were a couple of plays where I thought DeAndre Baker provided blanket coverage on his receiver. Although I don't think you could take away a whole lot of this first preseason game with respect to Deandre, I do think that he did show some potential as an island type of cornerback.
Ballentine was also very active and incredibly athletic.
Overall, the defensive rookies in particular seem to have a swagger that is rarely seen in a rookie class especially on the defensive side of the ball.
My overall first impression is extremely bullish on the defensive rookies, and I believe that these defensive players out of this class showed enough to have some optimism on the impact they can have in year 1 & beyond.
I'm trying to keep things in perspective, because it's only one preseason game, and the quality of competition that these players will face will escalate mightily once the regular season starts. I feel overall very positive that Gettleman nailed this draft and we may come away with at least for high-end starters. What say you guys?
Whoops. Thanks for the correction.
The best part is that the #6 looks legit right out of the gate.
Well, they all look alike, right?
15 snaps. A pick six and a sack not too bad. Would like to see LS I guess the giants are keeping that quiet to maybe stash him on the PS and be the future replacement for deossie
Swagger without ability is useless. Swagger with ability is different. I would not call what Love has swagger, but confidence. Obviously after the mic'd up, he's a talker. But I saw enthusiasm and confidence not swagger.
As much as you can tell from watching on TV I have about the same impressions that you have. Wasn't quite disappointed with Lawrence knowing that he was double teamed.
