NFT: Who subscribes to The Athletic?

Ben in Tampa : 8/13/2019 10:25 am
Anyone here on BBI a subscriber/reader of The Athletic? A buddy of mine loves the site and keeps telling me I'd love it too. He is a big Nashville Preds & SEC football follower though, so I don't know if the content is all that great for someone who doesn't follow those things. I'm really only interested in it if the Giants (and Lightning) content is worth it.

If you're a subscriber, would you recommend it?

I think its $60/year, which I am fine paying for good work.
The only site I pay to use is BBI

Pony up all you cheap son's of bitches and make a donation
I do.

And yes, I recommend it. I paid something $19.99 for a yearly subscription. Worth every penny. Great content.
It's the only sports site worth paying for, IMO.
Mike in Long Beach : 8/13/2019 10:34 am : link
I love it. Less than $5 a month.
I have it and its worth the money
Captplanet : 8/13/2019 10:46 am : link
as long as you are interested in other teams and sports outside of the Giants.

I wouldn't pay for it if you are only looking for Giants content.
Some of the best money
pjcas18 : 8/13/2019 10:53 am : link
I ever spent. I swore to myself I'd never pay for content on the Internet and I avoid pay walls, but I really wanted to read a Canadiens article they had and it I broke down and paid.

Zero regrets. (or regerts).

Best sports site on the Internet.
Nice

Thanks guys. I’m going to subscribe.

Do it !

Also paid like $20 for the year when they just started out. Great writing and analytics. Detailed insights on each and every team. Plus the writers respond to comments and often have Q&A.

I read BBI every day. Athletic like every other day. :)
One of the best things I like
pjcas18 : 8/13/2019 11:00 am : link
about the Athletic is I get an email every day with thumbnails of stories based on my interests and I can click any one of them and read it if I want.

they have an app for the phone and it's like they deliver the content to me they think I might be interested in and I read it.

I don't even have to think to check the site.
I do

Well well worth it. I used subscribe to SI and the Sporting News before the internet ruined print, and the Athletic is pretty much those two combined. Dan Duggan's stuff on there is really good, much more in depth than anything you'll find for free.
I do...
bw in dc : 8/13/2019 11:14 am : link
As mentioned, I think it's the best sports writing we have left.

I read it daily. At the risk of beating the dead horse about how other outlets are forced to push clickbait content to drive traffic, as a paid outlet the Athletic allows writers to dive into stories of genuine interest
Yes

Much more interesting articles than the typical media. Lots more about how and not just what.
Gues great

I posted a similar query last year
Jay in Toronto : 8/13/2019 11:36 am : link
and based on the recs I joined.

VERY glad I did. Can't read the regular coverage any more. Duggan is very good on the Giants and the coverage on hockey and the Rangers is exceptional. I also follow the Badgers with wonderful coverage.

Well worth it.
Love it

Yes they do. Good stuff. draft kits, rankings, sleepers, etc.
I was one of the first to subscribe here

I recall 2 years ago nobody had heard of it.
The site is great, awesome for hockey news, and everything.

I never got why people were so against 'paying.'
To me, it is the equivalent of a good magazine.
ditto the kudos

Yep - well worth it. A lot of great write ups and content without all the BS ads and other nonsense.
Love The Athletic
Steve in ATL : 8/13/2019 1:22 pm : link
and highly recommend subscribing. In addition to covering all the teams in all the major sports, they have a lot of fantasy football and fantasy baseball articles. Great depth to a lot of articles.

I’ll have to admit this - while being a fan of their Giants coverage
mfsd : 8/13/2019 1:35 pm : link
the Gary Myers interview with Daniel Jones they posted today was brutal. Myers seemed desperate to get Jones to say controversial...nothing about learning the offense, what’s different from college to the NFL. Just a dozen questions about what it felt like to get booed and is it awkward with Eli
I got just for the
Gman11 : 8/13/2019 2:54 pm : link
hockey coverage, but the NFL coverage is good too.

I haven't been on it in a couple of days though. If they have an article from Gary Myers I might have to rethink my subscription. j/k

I wish they just blocked Myers from being allowed to do anything Giants-related.

He's awful.

I love damn near everything about the Athletic. For me, the draft preview that they did for NFL and NHL was worth the subscription price alone. HOWEVER, having said that, they could ax Myers, Michael Lombardi and Vic Tafur in the next hour and I wouldnt miss any of them one bit.
