The Giants put WR Amba Etta-Tawo (Achilles) on IR and signed TE Jake Powell. Powell is an undrafted free agent out of Monmouth (Giants loading up on Hawks) who has been with the Saints this offseason

Also, Josiah Searight, who had been sidelined this week with a hip injury, was waived
So we have one roster spot open?

Or do we have two because we waived Alex Jenkins?
From a Saints website on Powell

“The first day of Saints rookie minicamp 2019 was a whirlwind for the participants and the local media. The rookies as they tried to acclimate quickly to the pace of the pros and the media as they tried to associate names with jersey numbers. There were a lot of new faces. Three of the names on the Saints roster and two on the rookie minicamp invite sheet weren’t with the team today, Saturday, May 11 though.”

“Monmouth University tight end Jake Powell was getting a lot of attention for his athleticism and 6-foot-6, 240-pound frame. He was released due to what is being called non-football injury. But with Jake Powell, there had to be some confusion between what the Saints were getting and the product advertised. At his Pro Day, Powell came in a full two inches shorter than what had been in the Monmouth media guide...

His athleticism is also highly suspect with one of his 40 times almost hitting the five-second mark, 4.93, and his best only being 4.76. He recorded a 29-inch vertical jump which would only be good for an NFL guard. A broad jump of 9-foot even and only 10 reps of 225 on the bench press put the athletic claim out the window and into the rubbish bin. Top all of that off with oddly short arms, 32.25-inches, and freakishly small, 9-inch, hands and you’ve got just about everything you don’t want in an NFL tight end in one tidy package.

Throw all that on a cake baked out of lack of college productivity too. Over a three-year period at Monmouth, Powell posted 54 catches for 641 yards and 6 touchdowns. That’s not a lot.“

Yikes
Then he was brought back by NO on 8-01-2019

“The New Orleans Saints made a roster move on Thursday, waiving second-year quarterback J.T. Barrett and bringing back rookie tight end Jake Powell. Powell signed with the Saints as an undrafted free agent back in May after playing for Monmouth in college. Herbie Teope of the Advocate first reported Barrett’s release and Powell’s signing.

Powell’s return comes days after rookie draft pick Alize Mack left practice with an undisclosed injury. Scouting reports described Powell as a prospect with good size (6-foot-4, 240 pounds) but little experience catching passes, having come from a run-first offense.””

All this may be true, but then why are the Giants signing him? I mean, even for a camp body this seems odd. Unless there's something the Saints missed — like an injury that limited his movement.
He was then waived a couple of days ago

The sane day the Saints signed former Giants FB Shane Smith
Wouldn't mind if the Giants signed Emmanuel Hall
Anakim : 8/13/2019 5:03 pm : link
If healthy (which is a big if), he can be very productive. He has good size and is an absolute burner.
You guys get it right?
Joey in VA : 8/13/2019 5:15 pm : link
These are not 53 or practice squad guys, they are warm bodies for camp.

Jenkins was waived from IR. So we have an open spot.
