NGT: Vikings make WR Laquon Treadwell available

Laquon Treadwell is the fifth receiver — at best — on the depth chart and on the verge of bringing an unceremonious end to his Vikings’ career. So it should come as no surprise to anyone, including Treadwell, that the Vikings are shopping him, according to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.

Desperate times? Conditional 7th in '20?
Treadwell on the block - ( New Window )
They should

Shurmur will know him well

Not being able to separate in college is a big red flag. Now that he's against bigger stronger guys his ability to catch contested passes also gets hurt.

I hear this a lot and I'm not sure I understand it.

How did he catch 200+ balls and average over 10 ypc in three years of college (14.1 ypc his jr year) without being able to separate?

I read the same thing on here from a lot of people about Mike Evans his draft year.

He seems like he separates fine.

not being a dick, I legit don't understand how that much college success is possible without separation?

NFL bust not withstanding - a lot of people had that pegged for this guy. Just not sure I understand how college success for a WR can happen to these extents without being able to separate? Is it all against zone D's or something?
I mean I never really understood him as a first round pick to begin
Zeke's Alibi : 8/14/2019 5:22 pm : link
with. His upside was great red zone threat, but he had a poor vertical and small hands for a WR of his height.

Because hes a physical receiver that caught a lot of jump ball and contested passes when not in space? You almost never saw him catch uncontested deep because he had no long speed.

Thats his tape in college.

I remember people said really similar things about Mike Evans coming out of college, but the difference is that he ran a 4.5 with good splits at his height/weight. So there's a big difference between projecting a 6'2 guy with no long speed and a 6'5 guy who had average athletic splits but with insane size and vertical.

To me they shouldve stuck treadwell him into the slot the entire time.
Well, he's only due $1.8MM this year. Fifth-year option was declined.

He wouldn't be the worst waiver claim. If he has a decent year, he might sign elsewhere and fetch a 2021 comp pick (though the comp formula that year may not favor the Giants, considering their current roster and the amount of cap space they will have to play with 2020).
That's because he SUCKS

How pissed that BBI got in 2016 when the Giants drafted Eli Apple instead of Treadwell

13 ypc is pretty average. Under that is pedestrian unless it's a high volume underneath slot guy like Welker or Edelman.
I'd give them a conditional 7th to get him into
TheMick7 : 8/14/2019 6:32 pm : link
camp for the next 3 weeks if Shurmur believes he's worth a look. If after 3 weeks he's not going to make the roster, return him/cut him & keep the 7th!
he's too slow, he's a poor man's Lattimer

Maybe it's easy to forget because that was a minority opinion? I do remember the selection of Apple raising eyebrows, but I don't remember a meaningful number of posters being pissed took him instead of Treadwell.
He always played slow to me in college

was unhappy hearing we were linked to him that draft. Glad that didn’t happen.

I liked him @ Ole Miss - I thought he'd be a good outside target with some size and could potentially be a poor man's Alshon Jeffery. But he just doesn't have the gear he needs to be a real weapon in the NFL. He's not a tough cover for a lot of these DB's.

I probably wouldn't even bother kicking the tires for little to nothing. He just doesn't seem like he's going to pan out regardless of where he goes.
