Dextor Lawrence

AnskyJK : 8/17/2019 9:07 am
I donít see him disrupting the pass game more than Snacks did. Snacks we traded for a 5th rounder. Dextor we took as 17 pick, not sure Iím following the rational
Well for starters

You were probably watching a different game.

But also, letís not compare a 7 year vet to a 22 year oldís 2nd preseason game?
He is getting a lot of double team

Heís only played 2 games....go,watch his college film and you will see....be patient here.

Dexter Lawrence has played about 1-2 quarters of professional football.

You may want to go back and watch how someone like Michael Strahan did as a rookie in the preseason.
Patience grasshopper.
section125 : 8/17/2019 9:11 am : link
Lawrence is playing DE, not NT. He's also finding NFL players are better than college players. There is a learning curve in the NFL. He'll get there. He also has not played enough to read his opponent. Can't play 12 plays and set up the other player.
Besides Snacks was not a pass rusher.

Lawrence is a massive, massive man. Kind of a weird thread - I've seen a lot of good stuff from him in the early going.

Forget that Lawrence has only played a handful of snaps. Lets use logic. Snacks was traded for multiple reasons. One, his contract. Two, his knees. Three, his supposed locker room lawyerness. He wasn't traded for his play on the field. So, wtf does Lawrence have to do with Snacks?
Really ?!?!
Jeff : 8/17/2019 9:31 am : link
Do you think you have given him enough time before making this judgement ???
How has Snacks played this pre-season?
JohnB : 8/17/2019 9:31 am : link
He hasn't. Not a down, not a single practice.

Not much info to compare the two players.

Heís not going to be a Stratham type of player, that said, I do t have any doubt that heís going to make his mark in this league.

And if he ends up being a player like Snacks, they would be fortunate. But Snacks didnít push the pocket like Lawrence already seems to be doing. Snacks just gummed up the middle, but never really got great push.

idiotsavant : 8/17/2019 10:16 am : link
Hill, Tomlinson and Lawrence taking turns pushing ols aside for blitzers, alternatively going right through single gaps, alternatively traditional 4/3 and 3/4 rolls.

I could see Dexter on the outside shoulder of the left O tackle. That gives him a 1 on 1, and it gives the OT a major problem to deal with.

You go Hill and Tomlinson right in the A gaps, a lb in the strong side B gap, and Mackintosh on the strong side end
With Dex weakside end.
Snack is an expensive
UConn4523 : 8/17/2019 10:19 am : link
albeit very good 2 down run stuffer whoís got major wear and tear. No idea how you canít see the rationale in moving on from him while also investing draft capital into what will hopefully be a cheap replacement for him with bigger upside.

But letís base everything off of 20 or 30 snaps, seems smart.

That first season Snacks was with the Giants, from the opening win over Dallas and through the first half of the playoff loss to the Packers, he was one of the best run-stuffers we've ever had.

He'd get some pocket pressure going too, now and then. But he was swallowing up running backs all day long and was a major contributor to a defense that carried that team all season long.

Never as effective after that one season in 2016, but that was a helluva good season.
Even if Lawrence only = Snacks it's still a good pick @17
Eric on Li : 8/17/2019 10:22 am : link
and to be clear, snacks was a borderline pro bowl NT so that's not the lowest of bars. Most first round picks don't make any pro bowls. The reasons Snacks got traded and held little value had less to do with his talent on the field, it was his age/attitude/productivity which were all trending in the wrong direction.

If Lawrence is a 21 year old Snacks with a good head on his shoulders for the next 5 years or longer, that's certainly worth a lot more than a 5th round pick. They play a different style so I don't think it's unfair to hope he can be more than that (like Fletcher Cox) - but if he's as good as any pro bowl level player you'd pretty much take it sight unseen.
DL consistently
bc4life : 8/17/2019 10:22 am : link
collapsed the center of the pocket. That's what he's supposed to do. As he gains more experience he develop more pass moves and take advantage of the freaky athleticism he possesses for a guy his size. And they are playing vanilla schemes - no game plans designed to take advantage of his strengths.

Lawrence was on WFAN last week
UConn4523 : 8/17/2019 10:46 am : link
and talked about how at Clemson he had more free reign but that doesnít work in that NFL. He said heís trying to focus on knowing exactly what he should be doing on each play because broken plays get you killed in this league.

Thereís a big learning curve for DTs, expectations should be realistic.

Agreed. Also Snacks had to be moved for reasons mentioned here. Think he was playing only 40% of defensive snaps prior to trade. They knew he wanted another larger contract and they were right given noise out of Detroit.

Is Dexter worth a #1 at 17, will see. But if that's important for DC's scheme I'll let them decide and watch as it unfolds. Moving Snacks is not linked to Lawrence since they wanted to move on from him. Not sure why media and others not realizing Giants wanted him out.
I mean
Amtoft : 8/17/2019 11:38 am : link
there was were two plays alone last night where he took a OG and then a Center and drove them hard back right in the face of the QB. He is still learning, but I can't remember a guy in the middle pushing a center that far back in a long time.
Thatís awesome logic by the OP

djm : 8/17/2019 11:45 am : link
And Lawrence will be the best defensive player here by the end of week 1. Heís already a presence.

But we did trade snacks for a 5th rounder. So i guess this whole thing sucks.

Same wacky, irrelevant logic being applied with the whole thing ďwe needed an impact player at 6 and/or why keep Eli if you drafted a qb high it makes NO senseĒ

Iíve never see so much warped and just irrelevant logic to make a point that has no merit in one offseason. Every time something good happens we hear these weird takes.

Francesa says the same shit. Itís almost as if the media is under orders to stir shit up and the fans wait in line for the next serving.

No shit about the comparison with Strahan. I'm merely pointing out how dumb it is to judge anyone.

Look at Jason Sehorn. He was dreadful as a rookie. Thomas Randolph looked like the better CB.

Well tbf Sehorn was making a position change and corner is possibly the toughest transition from college to pro.

half of the season. So bad that they were labeling him a bust down here in the local media. Totally turned around the second half and the belief is he will be their best defensive player now.
Snacks was traded for a bunch of reasons, and his play on the field
PatersonPlank : 8/17/2019 12:17 pm : link
was not one of them. His play was that of a 1st rounder IMO. So we hopefully got as much of an impact player, who is much cheaper and who is a good locker room guy. Seems like a win.

That Francesa said the giants are dysfunctional because they drafted Daniel jones at six and didnít take a player that could help them win immediately. He actually said those exact words yesterday.

Then he said they are dysfunctional because they kept Eli with the young qb, because only good teams should do that, not bad teams. Never mind that if the giants cut Eli theyíd still need a vet qb and with this new vet qb, coupled with the dead cap hit from Eli, the giants would undoubtedly be paying close to the same money that they are paying Eli this final year. And never mind that this new vet qb would NOT be Eli Manning. Would NOT be as good as Eli Manning was, is, or ever will be and likely would have been a pain in the ass in the locker room or that where the bell is this vet qb anyway? And the giants never ever ever go with a kid qb with no vet presence along side him or that this ďKCĒ model has been shown to be highly effective and thereís no conclusive data to support the belief that going with a rookie qb cold turkey is the right play. Nope, the giants are just dysfunctional because I say so.

And what happens if Daniel jones and dexter Lawrence are both fucking awesome? Never mind the bollocks!

But he's a big man on the wrong side of 30 that is now pushing for a new contract with 2 years left on his deal. The Giants are rebuilding. Moving him for whatever they could get for him was 100% the right move given the circumstances.

I do agree with the notion that Lawrence needs to be more than Snacks on pass downs to justify his draft position. However, a 30+ year old big man with an injury history should not be compared with any part of a rebuild. He should have been moved regardless of how he was replaced.

I listened to the same thing. He definitely has gotten pushed to the side by Giants / front office etc and it sounds that way. Its at the point now where the team comes up in discussion and he immediately unloads. He can't even talk intelligently about the team anymore.

I've always said that the media including Francesca were asleep at the wheel covering the Giants when Reese was screwing up draft after draft. The only thing talked about was Coughlin and Eli virtually exclusively. The foundation was crumbling and he was talking about the paint on the house.

His attacks are so personal now that the Giants just tell him to go sit in the corner. I would do the same.
