That makes sense for the Eagles. They have a very good starting qb

who happens to be injury prone. Now that they no longer have Foles to bail them out, signing McCown is a good move for them.
Somewhat surprising

The Jets tried hard to bring him back as Darnold's backup but he turned them down obviously.

The Eagles placed a 2nd round tender on Sudfeld and drafted Clayton Thorson in round 5. Are they going to carry 4 QB's or are they planning on getting rid of Thorson or Sudfeld? I'm assuming that Sudfeld is the one in danger of losing his roster spot. If they try to sneak Thorson on the practice squad he would be a nice developmental #3 QB for the Giants.
McCown probably thinks will have real playing time in Philadelphia
Ben in Tampa : 8/17/2019 10:59 am : link
possibly even in meaningful late season/playoff games.

That wasn't as likely with Darnold & the Jets.

Good point.
i think Sudfeld broke his wrist last week
HomerJones45 : 8/17/2019 11:03 am : link
non-throwing hand but he can't practice or play. Out 6 weeks or so.
And
fireitup77 : 8/17/2019 11:08 am : link
Thorson got a concussion.
All of their QBs are hurt basically

They need another guy.

might not be in for the cake walk everyone thinks. Beyond his inability to stay healthy, there is something with Wentz that isn't clicking in Philly. It was hinted at in the offseason how the team doesn't like him.

But more importantly, what has made the Eagles go the past few years has been their offensive line. But there might be some cracks showing due to age and injury. If their OL isn't working, the rest of what they do falls apart.

With the exception of the Pats, an obvious outlier, there are no cake-walks in today’s NFL , imv. Things change from year to year, sometimes radically as you are well aware. :)

Trade them hot commodities Tanney and Lauletta.

We might have a tough decision, but we should definitely keep KL over Tanney, thinking ahead to next year.

That OL got a 2011 Giants OL feel to them.

have always been a crafty shrewd organization in acquiring timely talent that keeps them very competitive even after a loss of personnel. Hope the crew we have here now can match them.
The Eagles are doing a great job finding back up

QBs for Wentz. No drop off in the QB getting injured when Wentz goes down.

That was put out by a Philly Voice writer with a bunch of unnamed sources. Seemed way more he was looking for clickbait to drum up the Foles vs Wentz "controversy". There hasn't been a peep about anything outside that article. Funny how these things become gospel.
I do agree with your oline assesment thought. My Cowboys buddy

thinks they are going to be great again, but Peters is another year older and Brooks is coming off a major injury late in the season and he's older. Guys don't really come back from that. Lane Johsnon and Kelce are still studs, but they won't be the elite force they were and don't have an elite back to make up for it.

Yeh, but the difference being is the Eagles are proactive (drafting Dillard) as opposed to reactive (reaching for Flowers when we had an obvious need).

Unfortunately, the Eagles traded up to take LT Andre Dillard in round 1 to provide excellent insurance for Peters at LT. Also they brought back Stefen Wisniewski to provide depth inside.

He probably cares less about playing time at this point in his career. He is definitely ring chasing.

Could have not said it better.. You may hate the Eagles, and I know I do, but much respect for wanting to do whatever it takes to get better and stay highly competitive. That Org has been getting it down every year. I wish the Giants were more like them in that sense.

Important to point out that although it's fair to say that the Eagles have done a good job with personnel, they've also been incredibly lucky in regard to injuries - which may have been an even bigger factor in their success. Below is the list of how they've ranked each year compared to the rest of the NFL in terms of player health:

2013 - 1st
2014 - 5th
2015 - 6th
2016 - 4th
2017 - 13th

Last season was the first time in a while they weren't one of the healthiest teams, ranking 31st - and they were a shit show before they finally got their act together last quarter of the season.

The Giants have certainly made some errors in the draft and free agency, but injuries have always been an issue affecting this team, and I think people continue to discount that when attempting to evaluate the reasons for their failures in recent years.
They didn't
