Eli Manning 5-5, 100%, 1 TD, 0 INT, 143 QBR.
Just saying. On the throws where Jones primary receiver was covered, he hit a check down, lost a fumble and threw a ball n the dirt.
It's fun to get excited in training camp. I root for everyone in blue. I wish young Daniel every success. But geez Louise.
11/14, 161 YDS, 1 TD
Last week:
5/5, 67 YDS, 1 TD
Next.
If Jones was his primary target he did a masterful job of looking off the safety first.
Definitely. Just fucking around with the OP alittle bit. Important stuff right now is accuracy, arm strength, mechanics, etc. All of which look very good right now.
100%.
And on a separate note, why do some Giants fans (not you - more about the thread starter and his ilk) seem to get pissed/jealous/whatever you want to call it when other fans get excited about the potential future Giants QB actually possibly being very good. Is excitement allowed? We all love Eli but he’s not going to be here forever, and wouldn’t it be nice to maybe have a transition from one franchise QB to another. Obviously it’s early and we all need to see Jones in the regular season but early signs are very encouraging, and god forbid fans are happy about that.
The TD pass by Jones was a first read, not sure why he said it wasn't. It is pretty obvious he recognizes man free, quick look right just to make sure the safety doesn't cheat over the top.
If these were regular season games, I'd say that's absolutely a part of the success. I'm not sure how much that applies in preseason, where there's minimal gameplanning on both sides of the ball.

primary receiver? Not every time you go to the 2nd or 3rd option is a "check down". In fact I think it was Baldy who pointed out the TD Jones threw was the 2nd read, that certainly wasn't a "check down". You really have no idea.

It was the 2nd read. He looks down the seam for #1 but its covered. He then realizes this means TJ has man-to-man and throws it to him perfectly. Baldinger points this out.
His fantastic showing, throwing the ball thus far, regardless of who he's throwing too, is leaps and bounds better then what Manning showed, during his rookie year.
We complained about the start of Eli's rookie training camp, We dissected his fluttering throws, balls that sailed over recievers heads, and throwing off his back foot. And that's from what I can just remember off the top of my head.
I get it's just preseason, but Jones can't be denied, and any true NY Giant fan, can 'NOT' be excited for this kid.
Here is what Apples to Apples really looks like...
Kyle Lauletta 2018 rookie preseason stats
17/35 47% 194 yards 1 Td 2 Int 58 QB Rating
Now Lets compare Jones rookie preseason
16/19 84% 228 Yards 2 TD 0 Int 148 QB Rating
It's not even close, and Lauletta was doing it against 3rd and 4th stringers his rookie year. Jones' numbers are far superior in just two games.
Just sayin

It might be that some of you (maybe not you but probably you) are delusional and confuse "concern" or "non-belief" into "being pissed" or "being miserable?"
Who told you you can't be excited or who got pissed that you were excited? Things only get bad primarily from the posters who are positive and insult those who are negative or mis-represent what the negative posters have said previously.
For me-- I didn't like the Jones pick. I love what he's shown though from the 2 preseason games - yet posters that are complete homers say posters like me root for the team to lose cuz we'd rather be right on here than watch the GMen win. Do you understand how nuts that is? Further, there are posters on here that make up stuff that I said because I'm negative.
I still don't understand why some of you that are positive posters get so twisted for those of us that are negative. Instead of focusing on the individual poster why not focus on just accepting that most on here are like you that are positive and there will be some negative counters. But the majority on here is positive so why get so twisted over fewer negative posts?
IMO its because you don't want to hear negative at all so you exaggerate or mis-represent the negative poster. Keep on believing that all of the negative posters "want the GMen to lose" and "are miserable" and "get mad when positive posters are excited." It's your own make-believe world though.

“Preseason means nothing!”
Can’t we enjoy some great stat lines that never seem to occur for us in the preseason? They have to be doing something right so far.

Never felt winning in preseason was meaningful, but have always believed and continue to do so, that performance does matter.
I ve seen too often where poor play in preseason translated to the regular season
And he looked completely lost.

There is merit to the idea of keeping the younger player to develop as a backup for Jones. And it's likely with QB injuries around the league if Lauletta was released he would wind up on another 53 roster.
Let's temper expectations though. We tend to look through rose colored glasses.

But assuming this is Eli’s last year, the winner of the third string battle would be primary backup next year
Tanney is probably better now but I go with Lauretta. If DJ is starter next year, Giants will probably sign a vet backup with NFL track record. So Tanney really just does not fit
mfsd hahahah your comment made me laugh, no joke
And he looked completely lost.
Yes all decisions should be based on a rookie QB, who was basically overlooked all last season in practice, and 5 throws in a mop up roll. Because, rookies never get better. That game may have been Shurmur showing Lauletta that he was not working hard enough - a wake up call. If so, it appears to have worked. He looks much improved this preseason.
Now, comparing a 4th round why not pick vs the #6 pick in the draft is also silly. Jones is clearly the future starter and Lauletta can be the backup. Let's hope he has a great preseason and either beats out Tanney or gets traded to a team in need. More better players showing improvement never hurt any team in any sport.
Nobody likes callout threads. People want to have their takes but not be held accountable for their own opinions.
