Pete Alonso (R) 1B
Michael Conforto (L) RF
Wilson Ramos (R) DH
Todd Frazier (R) 3B
Juan Lagares (R) CF
Aaron Altherr (R) LF
Tomas Nido (R) C

Royals Lineup

Jorge Soler (R) DH
Ryan O’Hearn (L) 1B
Cheslor Cuthbert (R) 3B
Bubba Starling (R) LF
Brett Phillips (L) CF
Nick Dini (R) C

Still no JD Davis. Guess the Mets are being extra cautious. Brandon Nimmo playing CF and leading off in St. Lucie today. Phillies, Nats, and Cardinals all lost last night. Let's take this series! LFGM!
Nimmo starting is huge. The players who can still walk have to hold

things together long enough for our wounded to return.
Man...
ZGiants98 : 8/18/2019 12:20 pm : link
1.) Nimmo CF
2.) McNeil 3B
3.) Cespedes LF
4.) Alonso 1B
5.) Conforto RF
6.) Davis DH
7.) Cano 2B
8.) Ramos C
9.) Rosario SS

The lineup we should have had today.

Bench. Lowrie, Frazier, Dom, Lagares, Nido.
I

Wasn’t Lowrie supposed to

start a rehab too?

Nice start today. Reinforcements are coming. Just scratch out enough wins to hang in there.
Also is today Gary Apple's last day?
ChaChing : 8/18/2019 2:51 pm : link
Cohen back is almost as good as getting the reinforcements on field

..
Named Later : 8/18/2019 2:53 pm : link
I was pleasantly surprised to see Nimmo in St Lucie lineup today. He played 7 innings in CF, but took an O'fer..

Aleari is gone as soon as Brandon's rehab is done.

Shit's getting crazy

Bases juiced 0-outs, KC top order

And there it is b4 I even type, single, 3-2 still juiced
Wheeler coming unglued
Vanzetti : 8/18/2019 3:30 pm : link
Not getting a good feeling about this gsme
I’m really okay with letting Wheeler walk after the season.
PhiPsi125 : 8/18/2019 3:36 pm : link
He’s just not that good of a pitcher. Use the money on a different option.
Gotta love Mickey
Eric on Li : 8/18/2019 4:01 pm : link
Familia hasn't given up a hit in 10 days (5 appearances), says he's gonna start putting him in higher leverage spots, next 2 appearances:

down 4 runs vs. Atl in the 8th
6th inning vs. KC (down 1)

I've never seen a guy whose actions are so misaligned from the diarrhea that spews from his mouth. But hey, not like Familia owns most of the records as our best closer in franchise history or anything.
Eric his comments are 100% telling
ChaChing : 8/18/2019 4:03 pm : link
If he says it's happening, it ain't happening

If it's never going to happen, it's coming next game

He's consistent......(-ly awful)
Holy shit!
ChaChing : 8/18/2019 4:06 pm : link
Lagares, successful bunt!

First time in yrs (if ever?)
Guy's truly

Has looked good recently. Should’ve gotten through 2 without any runs but frazier decided to suck at 3b for a moment
Good job by Familia

Run scores on an error

But he came back to get the next guy . Still some command issues but his stuff was excellent. Great movement on all his pitches
They all look alike to Gary Apple

Yes, nice to see. Big lead, crummy opposition, but still, it's a step forward -- hopefully they can build him back up.

It would be nice if Amed Rosario could learn enough English to do interviews without an interpreter. On the other hand, it would also be nice if I spoke and understood Spanish.
When he's hitting the way he has been lately, he's always speaking
Ira : 8/18/2019 5:30 pm : link

With a day off coming tomorrow, we should probably be seeing

Davis back in the lineup. Who's next to return?
That was really nice
jpkmets : 8/18/2019 5:50 pm : link
Big win to get 3-3 trip.

Now 26 of the final 39 at home -- more than other contenders

Washington: 19 home, 19 road
Cubs: 21 home 17 road
Brewers: 19 home 19 road
Phillies: 16 home 22 road

Time to put that home field to good use!

Really happy for Rosario -- he's given this team a big lift with the bat, the glove and his overall energy.
sorry, 26 of 38
jpkmets : 8/18/2019 5:51 pm : link
at home, rather
I felt like this team is all spanish speakers
ChaChing : 8/18/2019 5:52 pm : link
but Rosario, Ces, Ramos, even Cabrera's accent was heavier than I thought it would sound tho his english is ok

Then again Vargas' english was solid NYC. "I'll knock you the fuck out, bro"

Is that certain? Reaggravating a calf strain, unless we' ve heard something more seems like it would need more time even if it's not too serious. Not that he's 100% on this stuff, but iirc Keith speculated similar

Not certain. But considering that they didn't take him out immediately after he got a hit, and considering they have a day off, I'm guessing he's back on Tuesday.
Hope so!
ChaChing : 8/18/2019 6:16 pm : link
he's huge esp w/ all the other missing pieces...
That's for sure. We need him and another bat soon. We have 9 games
Ira : 8/18/2019 6:22 pm : link
against 3 good teams coming up - but all at home.
Good comeback win
Vanzetti : 8/18/2019 9:46 pm : link
In what was an important game that let the Team finish the road trip 3-3

Nimmo probably needs another week. Braves are throwing two LHP so really he will be needed against the Cubs starting Darvish and KH.

What's the definition of a desperate Mets fan?

When they're asking the manager to play Famiglia in a clutch spot.

Far more 'typical Met fan' to shit on one of the best players they've had in recent years, blame him for all the obvious deficiencies of the franchise around them, and think there's some magical player out there would have solved everything. Was Familia clutch against the Dodgers? Or Cubs? Or against the Royals when he got them out of Harvey's jam if Duda makes an easy throw home? Or during the desperate runs to the playoffs in Sept/Aug of '15/'16 when he was leading all closers in innings pitched?

The guy gave up 2 homers in 16.2 career playoff innings, which are the only earned runs against him and still good enough for a 2 era. Aroldis Chapman is unanimously considered the best closer in the game right now he's got a 2.3 posteason era with 7 saves + 4 blown saves in 31 innings. Good luck on your journey to find the next Mariano Rivera.
I hate the let's go down the

2015 World Series memory lane threads.

but the Mets lost 3 of 4 games where they had leads in the 8th inning. without knowing details, who would you blame (if you were of the type that has to blame someone) for the WS loss?

It's not all on Familia, some is on Terry, some on Clippard, some the defense, but the bullpen lost the series is not a really bad take. It doesn't mean they (Familia especially) weren't a major reason the team got to the world series, or they didn't have a great season, but in a list the bullpen is probably the #1 reason for the WS loss.

earned runs also not the best measure of a reliever.

of course the BP is a big reason for the WS loss
Eric on Li : 8/19/2019 10:56 am : link
as is the lineup for not scoring any runs against guys like Chris Young and the defense for imploding. But Familia specifically came in and did a good job in several of those games, literally not allowing contact beyond the infield, and we still lost those situations. The series against KC were team losses, not simply Familia chokes.
