Does that ever work? And what is Mayock going to do? He basically guaranteed the next two yeara of his contract. They are screwed unless Brown does something to void guarantees in his contract.

would you even want him on the Giants at this point? Would any other team want him? I mean, that helmet issue isn't going away, so that has to be resolved. His feet seem to be fucked up; he has to be able to practice and play.

A mess for sure.

I would think that if AB simply doesn't report, the Raiders have some recourse, but they'd probably have to start with fines (like the year Strahan skipped camp and got fined). I doubt they want to go that route. I don't think they want a fight with AB; they want AB "all-in," as Mayock put it.

Weird situation. The Raiders are caught between the league and the player. No wonder they're exasperated.

Who would trade for him? If the Raiders called me and asked how I could make an Antonio Brown trade happen, I would literally say I want Brown and a 3rd round pick, and you get nothing.

His value is literally below zero at the moment.

If he refuses to wear the helmet they should be able withhold his pay. Good luck on Brown getting paid if refuses to wear the helmet. And leaving camp they can and should fine him

Funny part is Brown’s contract isn’t the worst the Raiders have on the books. That would be Gruden’s.

The assumption here is that Brown has a mental illness. He could just be angling to get out of practice or wanting to put attention on himself.

It's sort of like assuming the Khardashian's have mental illness just because they hog the spotlight.

He's allowed to wear that same model helmet. He just can't wear the same one he has been for 10 years. That isn't an unreasonable rule and he isn't the only one impacted.

The only thing I learned from all of this is that a player can switch teams and apparently still demand to wear his old equipment. What's next, getting pissed because he can't play with Ben's balls?

Could be true.

The reality is the nfl has created a model where even mediocre QBs deserve apparently to be paid 30 million plus a year and every other position goes year to year, not protected by rules/fines/injury, at maybe a 6th of that

Painful to watch this train wreck coming - but I can’t get on any non QB for looking out for number 1 at all times until this gets fixed

helmets that haven't passed testing:

Quote:
And so Brown embarked on a search for Schutt AiR Advantage helmets less than 10 years old. He found “a few” that had been made in 2010. Eventually, he found one that had been made in 2014, for a film.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the NFL found its own 2011 version of the Schutt AiR Advantage, the NFL tested it on Thursday and Friday, and it did not pass. The NFL believes that any/all Schutt AiR Advantage helmets made within the last 10 years would also not pass.

Brown’s camp insists that the Raiders said on Monday night that, if Brown finds a Schutt AiR Advantage made within the last 10 years and if NOCSAE recertifies it, Brown would be permitted to wear the helmet in practices and games.

Bottom line is he doesn't want to wait for the certification process and he thinks he can just grab any model of that helmet and use it. He's picked out one used in a film???

He has this strange need to provide a daily temperature check of other posters' psyches. His posting almost never has anything to do with the topic - but instead, he goes from thread to thread evaluating how everyone is responding or pointing out that in his mind, posters are handling themselves in some sort of disagreeable manner.

Strange behavior indeed. Not really sure what the endgame is. I guess he's on a mission to fix the "self-concept issue" BBI has one poster at a time.

How is independently testing the helmet moving the goalpost? Who does the safety test is irrelevant. The helmet either meets the required standards or it does not.

In any event - it's not my place to speculate on AB's mental state, as I'm not anywhere near close enough to him to really have any idea.

But his behavior has been incredibly distracting and it's just one thing after another. The guy has yet to play a single snap in a Raiders uniform and yet, he's been a story throughout almost all of camp thus far for all the wrong reasons.

Players like this are exhausting. I imagine the Raiders are already getting pretty tired of it based on Mayock's comments.

He's a phenomenal talent... but is all of this nonsense worth it?
There are two pertinent opinions as I see it:
Big Blue '56 : 8/19/2019 7:29 am : link
1-If he’s mentally impaired, there’s nothing to make fun of or be disparaging towards. I wish him well.

2-If it’s not mentally-related, he could indeed be angling to miss training camp

I think all signs point to this.

Someone asked Rosenhaus why this was suddenly an issue with Brown because the NFL declared the helmet outdated over a year ago. Rosenhaus said they - I guess Team Brown - have been working with all parties involved for the last six months.

it sounded like AB appealed the league's decision and the league kicked it to a safety committee who re-tested the helmet, after re-testing it still failed - but it all took time. I guess.
