ESPN Preseason Power Rsnkings

Giants are 31st. What a joke. I'm really excited this season to see a much improved team. We lack depth but I see a lot of potential if they stay healthy. I think we finally see meaningful games in December this year.

How could they have the Redskins above the Giants?

and their idiots. I think we might shock the world this year
We aren't 31st
Mike in NY : 8/20/2019 9:19 am : link
But I also don't think we are a playoff team. Too many questions about being able to pass the ball when necessary and the pass rush being able to get off the field on third down.

31 is a joke
Matt M. : 8/20/2019 9:25 am : link
I am not delusional to think we are a contender. However, we are an improved team with a solid draft and FA this offseason. We still have work to xo with this roster. But, if everything breaks right this year, I believer we could be a playoff team. I view us as a middle of the pack team, somewhere between 15 and 20, maybe 25. But, I can't see only 1 team worse than us this year.

I think the offense is going to be really good, especially with a solid offensive line.
I agree the offensse will be good.

A lot of rookies in the secondary will hurt at the beginning of the season and hopefully the defense improves through out the season.
Called click bait.
section125 : 8/20/2019 9:33 am : link
You want the largest market checking on it then talking about it.

Right now I'd have them 16-20ish. Can be better is defense comes together.
ESPN is run by a bunch of sheep

It's fun to kill the Giants right now. Every single power ranking has them in the Bottom 5. Giants will not be a playoff team, but is it THAT much of a stretch to see them finish with 6-8 wins? They almost had that last year with a much harder schedule and worse overall roster.

People put too much stock into OBJ and OV being gone and don't look at the overall picture. Those two players have missed a TON of games over the past 2 years. Those two players leaving allowed the team to get better at several other spots.
Having Arizona in front of the Giants is a complete joke
ZogZerg : 8/20/2019 9:45 am : link
That team is going to be terrible.

But, the good thing of starting at the bottom is that there is only one way to go;).
The National Perception is that we
John In CO : 8/20/2019 10:14 am : link
traded one of our two best offensive stars and the two best players off of the defense. The GM is obviously senile. The QB needs a walker to get around. They drafted a 4th RD QB at #6! So how can they possibly improve?

To me, its NBA thinking; its all about the stars. The NFL is not the NBA (thank God); this is a TEAM sport; takes contributions from all 22 to win, but I guess that's easy to miss for some.
So what ...
Beer Man : 8/20/2019 10:20 am : link
The Giants deserve their ranking. On paper they've had two good drafts in a row, but that means little at this point as they still have a poor record over the last several seasons. When the team starts winning games and beating up other teams, then their ranking will climb.

Not to mention, preseason rankings mean little.
It is notable how much the Giants have become
mfsd : 8/20/2019 10:29 am : link
a punching bag for the national media. But who cares,

The Giants have sucked for 6 years and earned their criticism...but what’s strange is the blame for the past 6 years lies with the previous regime, who was ousted.

Yet, all these outlets love to bash the current regime for the Giants shitty record. While treating guys like Marc Ross as informed experts.

I really just think they hate Gettleman because he has no interest in being buddies with the media
Power rankings and an empty sack are worth an empty sack.

The_Boss : 8/20/2019 11:18 am : link
I’m not surprised by it. The franchise has fallen so far from what we’ve been used to and the narrative is essentially, “we’re fucked”. I also said in May to not be surprised when we’re getting shit on by the media in August.
We've essentially been the worst team in the league the last 2 years
Tesla : 8/20/2019 11:20 am : link
And lost 3 of our best players this offseason. Our aging QB is a year older and we used the 6th pick in the draft on a player we don't plan on playing this year. Our biggest FA signing was an aging WR who just got busted for PED's.

Personally I expect us to be better this year, but it's totally fair to rank us 31st at this point.
Man I wish ESPN provided betting on their predictions.
BlueHurricane : 8/20/2019 11:22 am : link
I'd be all over this team not being the second worst team in the league.

This preseason feels vastly different from preseasons of the past few years.

The last few years I watched and thought to myself man this entire roster is dog shit.

Now I watch and say we are trending upward. I bet we finish anywhere from 8-8 to 10-6. Weak schedule, better culture, and an oline that can block. Hell with a horrendous team/locker room last year we easily could have been 8-8. EASILY.
31st is a little harsh.
family progtitioner : 8/20/2019 11:25 am : link
Not totally off base, though. I see between 5-7 wins so more like 26th.

They don't mean anything but I think the Giants deserve more respect. It's just something to talk about.
This defense

Can be really bad. This is not a secret. There aren't many, if any, defensive players that the media can name.

How long has it been since the Giants had a good LB? They have 3 huge DL but do they have a LB that will fill the lanes? I like our secondary though.
Who cares?
slickwilly : 8/20/2019 11:35 am : link
Whenever you listen to any ESPN personality talk about the Giants it's pretty clear they know little to nothing about the team other than they traded OBJ. That includes the supposed Giants fan Kellerman who sounds like a moron when he speaks about the team.
So we get #2 pick!
Reale01 : 8/20/2019 11:41 am : link
This is great news. We have our QB. The Giants will get a really good package from someone for the pick. Between the picks and our 2020 cap situation, we should be able to finish the rebuilding process.

It would..
FatMan in Charlotte : 8/20/2019 11:44 am : link
be funny if people actually held ESPN responsible for this type of shit and published a scorecard on how bad they've been.

It would be horrendous. Last season, Jacksonville was 4th in their Power Rankings
I'd put us
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 8/20/2019 11:49 am : link
anywhere from 19 to 25 or so. 31 is absurd.
The GIants fan base is probably not the most objective

view of where the team should be ranked.

Oh and it is a preseason power ranking, which is about as useful as a PFT player ranking.

joeinpa : 8/20/2019 12:42 pm : link
But it does bother me how mob mentality has taken off in this day and age.

Put a narrative out there, “Gettleman doesn’t know what he s doing” support it with bias facts spun to fit your narrative and it s amazing what legs that narrative can grow
Perfect, our plan has come together brilliantly.
GiantsUA : 8/20/2019 12:45 pm : link
On to 10-6!
We've won 8 of last 32 games
MM_in_NYC : 8/20/2019 1:04 pm : link
And we're counting on major developments in young players in order to be competitive.

This ranking (which is meaningless) should not be surprising.

This year is going to be a wash and people better get used to that idea. There's plenty to look forward too but winning a lot of games this year is not one of them. If we go on a run at any various points then that will be nice.

I wouldn't be shocked if
mrvax : 8/20/2019 1:14 pm : link
this team won 10 games this year. In fact if they stay healthy, I'd expect it.

Dude, the Redskins suck. We trounced them last year.
The Giants have 8 games
arniefez : 8/20/2019 3:17 pm : link
against teams ranked 20 to 32. A team couldn't have an easier schedule. I still think they're going to struggle to win more than the 5 games they won last year. The defense is that bad.

3 out of the first 4 games are against Buffalo, Tampa and Washington. 2 are at home. If they're not at least 2-2 after the first 4 games things could get very ugly very quickly.

Right now? These sort of rankings have been killing the Giants for years, and they haven't been very wrong recently.
This thread really shows how delusional most fans are....
Tesla : 8/20/2019 9:07 pm : link
There's not vast conspiracy against the Giants in the media.

We've sucked for a long time, been truly horrible the last two years, and lost some of our best players. So it doesn't take a media conspiracy to believe we'll continue to suck until proven otherwise.

If you’re going to be offended...
Chris in Philly : 8/20/2019 9:22 pm : link
by power rankings, you are setting yourself up for a very, very long year.
Many are underrating the giants new OL
djm : 8/20/2019 9:27 pm : link
Maybe I’m nuts but I see this OL as upper echelon. I know that’s crazy to say with them not playing one game together yet, but why not? Everyone associated with the giants has been saying great things all summer, and they have looked good. Plus, OL play is garbage around the league. The bar isn’t that high. Giants may very well be one of the few teams with good OL play...and Barkley is back there.... sorry, 31st is crazy.

The Redskins do suck and have no direction, but the last I checked Mark Sanchez isn't back. We suck, but at least we have young talent and a clear direction.

"You are what your record is." - Bill Parcells

We suck until proven otherwise. So, this doesn't surprise me. Our defense is very young. There will be growing pains. Our offense could be good.

That said, I believe we are moving in the right direction overall. If everything comes together, maybe we have some meaningful November games. Odds are we will be developing our new QB during the later part of the season, which we need to do.

-- Saquan could be better this year with the improved OL, assuming they stay healthy. If the passing game can keep defenses from putting 8-9 guys in the box, he could be scary. Engram being healthy could help alot.

- An upright Eli is a better Eli...the OL is better, Eli should improve.

-- OBJ has made it more than apparent that the trade had to happen. He is a "me" guy, didn't want to be here. The trade's true impact is TBD. Zeitler helps immediately, that alone helps alot. Peppers likely provides upside at SS, he looks like he can cover TE's which the former SS couldn't do. The rookies we ultimately got - Lawrence and Baker -- will be starters and have shown some promise. Jury is out.

-- The 2018 and 2019 draft classes have been good. Alot of young talent on the team that is developing.

-- Daniel Jones has wowed everyone. He looks like the real deal. There's hope for the future at QB. Lets hope he keeps progressing.

-- $55 Million+ of cap space next season. Mix it in with our young talent, we could be scary good in 2020.

ouch #32
